Get Black War Kodo mount
Overview

The
Black War Kodo is a ground PvP mount of the Horde faction, added back in patch 2.0.1 and originally conceived as a battle version of the Tauren racial kodo for players with a high PvP rank. It is a massive black kodo with a menacing coloration and heavy barding; its look and its trumpeting roar make it recognizable even from a distance. According to the item description, black war kodos are bred by the Kor'kron stable masters for their aggressive and unpredictable temperament, and their roar serves as a signal: blood will soon be spilled.
In the modern game the mount is sold for 15
Honor Tokens by Bork the Raider — the master of mount supply by the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar. No PvP rank, title, or battleground faction reputation is required anymore: any Horde character who saves up 15 tokens in combat gains access to the purchase. On patch 11.1 The War Within the mount is fully current and remains one of the fastest ways to complete the "Black War" collection of Horde racial mounts.
Why You Want This Mount
- Completing the Horde "Black War" mount set — together with the
Black War Wolf, the
Black War Raptor and others, the black kodo is part of the classic set of PvP mounts for Horde races. All five are sold by the same vendor at the same price. - A unique model among kodos — unlike the ordinary Tauren kodos sold for reputation with Thunder Bluff, the war version is fully black, with bulkier barding and an aggressive roar animation. There is no other way to obtain this coloration.
- The historical legacy of the Commander rank — originally the mount was issued only to Orcs, Trolls, and Tauren with a PvP rank of "Commander" or higher. Patch 2.0.1 removed the rank requirement, and 3.0.8 lifted the racial restrictions as well. Now any Horde race can buy and use the black war kodo, but in the collection it is still considered a PvP reward.
- A cheap way to advance mount-count achievements — 15 Honor Tokens are farmed in a few wins in random battlegrounds or in a single epic battle. The purchase advances progress in "Leading the Cavalry", "Stable Keeper" and other meta-achievements based on the number of mounts.
- Account-wide access — after using the item the mount enters the shared journal and unlocks for all Horde characters on the account, regardless of class and race.
Since patch 7.0 (Legion) the old grind for individual battleground marks was removed from the game, and all PvP mounts of this kind were moved to the single Honor Token currency. Today, taking part in any PvP activity is enough to make the purchase — separate Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch, and Arathi Basin marks are no longer needed, and those marks themselves were automatically converted into Honor Tokens back during the run-up to Legion.
How to Reach Bork the Raider
Bork the Raider stands right in front of the entrance to the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar. This is the Horde PvP headquarters: nearby are the battleground quartermasters, arena organizers, and NPCs handing out PvP quests.
Route from the hearthstone
- Teleport to Orgrimmar via your hearthstone, a portal from any major The War Within hub, or the main portal from Valdrakken and Dornogal.
- Head from the Valley of Wisdom or the Valley of Strength toward the Valley of Honor — it lies in the eastern part of the city.
- The Hall of Legends is deep within the Valley of Honor; its entrance is framed by two huge statues of Horde warriors and red banners.
- Bork the Raider stands mounted on a kodo right in front of the doors to the Hall of Legends, on an open plaza, next to the other PvP quartermasters.
- Coordinates for your navigator:
If your character is Alliance
The mount is bound to the Horde and cannot be bought on an Alliance character. The only way for an Alliance player to complete this mount is to create or transfer a character to the Horde side, buy the kodo there, and then use it through the shared journal of allied characters. On an Alliance character the mount will not appear in the journal. The Alliance equivalent from the same type of vendor is called Lieutenant Karter, who sells the corresponding "Black War" mount set for Alliance races in Stormwind.
How to Get Honor Tokens
The
Honor Token is the single PvP currency introduced in patch 7.0.3 along with Legion and still current today. At level 80 in The War Within it can be earned in practically any PvP activity.
Main sources
- Regular battlegrounds — for a win you receive a reward chest that is guaranteed to contain Honor Tokens. A loss also grants a smaller number of tokens. The fastest and shortest battlegrounds are Warsong Gulch and Temple of Kotmogu.
- Epic battlegrounds — Alterac Valley, Isle of Conquest, and epic Warsong Gulch grant more tokens per win but take longer. They are optimal if you are farming several mounts from the PvP vendor at once.
- 2v2 and 3v3 arenas without rating — short unrated matches grant several Honor Tokens per win and don't require a pre-made team.
- Rated arenas and battlegrounds — grant an increased number of Honor Tokens plus Conquest points if you are also progressing through the PvP season.
- The "Battlegrounds Blitz" brawl — when this brawl is active in the rotation, you fight against bots and get 5 Honor Tokens for the first win of the day and 1–2 tokens for each one after. This is the fastest and safest way to gather 15 tokens when the brawl is available.
- Weekly PvP quests in Orgrimmar — given out by the local PvP quartermasters near the Hall of Legends. The reward is small, but the quests are picked up on the way to Bork the Raider himself.
How long it takes
With active play, 15 tokens are gathered in roughly 40–60 minutes:
- 3–5 wins in regular battlegrounds at 10–15 minutes each
- or 1–2 wins in epic Alterac Valley
- or 8–10 wins in short unrated arenas
- or a few runs of "Battlegrounds Blitz" if the brawl is in rotation
If your goal is to collect all five "Black War" mounts at Bork the Raider at once, budget 75 tokens and 3–5 hours of focused PvP farming.
Buying the Mount
- Walk right up to Bork the Raider at the entrance to the Hall of Legends.
- Right-click to open the trade window.
- Make sure you have at least 15
Honor Tokens in your bags. - In the list of goods find the
Black War Kodo and confirm the purchase. - Right-click to open the item — the mount spell is automatically added to your collection, and the kodo becomes available to all Horde characters on the account.
- If you don't yet have the "Apprentice Riding" skill, you can learn it from any riding trainer in the Horde capitals.
What else is worth buying from the same vendor
Bork the Raider sells the full set of Horde racial "Black War" mounts. The prices and conditions are identical — 15 Honor Tokens, no reputation or rank requirements:
Mount | Item |
|---|---|
| Black War Kodo | |
| Black War Wolf | |
| Red Skeletal Warhorse | |
| Black War Raptor | |
| Swift Warstrider |
It is best to spend a single vendor visit on the whole set — this completes five entries in the mount collection and advances all the related achievements at once, including "Leading the Cavalry".
Tips
Grab the mount right after your first battleground wins — 15 tokens are gathered quickly, and the purchase completes an achievement and immediately gives you a mount that can be used as early as level 10. Don't put it off for "someday later."
Catch the "Battlegrounds Blitz" rotation — in a week when this brawl is active, even a player uninterested in PvP collects 15 Honor Tokens in an hour against bots. Check the in-game event calendar before heading into regular battlegrounds.
Farm tokens in epic battlegrounds if you need several mounts — epic Alterac and Isle of Conquest grant noticeably more tokens per run, and the long matches are offset by the fact that you advance achievements and the PvP season at the same time.
Keep a stock of Honor Tokens in reserve — Bork the Raider has a fixed assortment, but tokens are also needed for transmog sets of old PvP seasons and relics. An extra 20–30 tokens in your bags will speed up any later purchase.
Status in The War Within — the kodo and the vendor have not changed since patch 7.0. As of patch 11.1 the mount is fully available, remains the fastest Horde PvP mount from the historical set, and requires neither rank nor reputation. There have been no announcements of removal or price changes.
