Get Bloodsipper
Overview

Bloodsipper is a one-handed dagger of epic quality, added in patch 3.3 "Fall of the Lich King" of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a narrow ritual blade with a dark bone hilt and a predatory curve to the edge, finished in a palette of blood and crimson gold to match the overall aesthetic of the Crimson Hall wing of Icecrown Citadel. The hilt bears an engraving in the shape of a fanged skull, a nod to Blood-Queen Lana'thel herself and her San'layn avengers.
In terms of item stats, the dagger is geared toward rogues and nimble mercenary types: bonuses to agility, stamina, resilience and parry, plus two gem sockets, make it a versatile pick for physical melee classes of the Wrath of the Lich King era. The item level is 264 and it requires level 80. For transmog today only the model matters — the icon corresponds to one of the recognizable "vampiric" dagger models of Icecrown Citadel.
This entry is the Normal 10-player version. The same visual model is available in the Heroic version (see the "Alternatives" section), and both unlock the same appearance in your wardrobe.
Source
The dagger drops from the boss Blood-Queen Lana'thel — the tenth boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid, who completes the Crimson Hall wing (Wrath of the Lich King, patch 3.3).
- The difficulty mode for item 51846 is Normal 10-player.
- The drop chance, based on community aggregate data, is around 8%.
- Limit: one raid clear per week per character within the shared 10-player lockout.
- Soloing it entirely at max level: the Blood-Queen fight is over in a few seconds, and the "Bloodbolt Whirl" and bite-phase mechanics no longer pose any threat.
- Blood-Queen Lana'thel sits in the upper part of the Crimson Hall wing; before the boss you need to clear Lord Blood-Heart, Countess Stalvan and Prince Valanar (the Blood Prince Council).
- Raid entrance coordinates:
/way Icecrown 53 87 Icecrown Citadel. The fastest route is via the teleport from Dalaran to the raid's surroundings, or through the portal to Icecrown.
Additional note: Bloodsipper drops only from Blood-Queen Lana'thel and only on 10-player. If your goal is to farm a single boss specifically, it's convenient to leave right after clearing the wing and reset the instance for the next lockout cycle.
Who it suits visually
- Looks built around the Icecrown Citadel palette: bone tones, dark silver and crimson blood accents.
- Tier 10 sets of the Wrath of the Lich King era, especially rogue and hunter outfits with a cold northern style.
- Vampiric and San'layn builds: the blade reads beautifully next to cloth robes in deep red shades and mail with bone inlays.
- Contrast with light, pale cloth robes — the dagger works as a grim accent thanks to its curved silhouette.
- A paired layout with any "bone" dagger of Icecrown Citadel in a rogue's off-hand creates a cohesive "vampiric" silhouette.
Tips
The fastest class for a weekly run is anything with high mobility and heavy area damage: a demon hunter, a brewmaster monk, a guardian druid. This cuts the path to the tenth boss down to 8–10 minutes, including the flights between wings.
Don't forget about the "Strength of Wrynn" buff debate: in Icecrown Citadel the buff no longer applies, but it isn't needed either — solo at max level the raid clears in minutes.
Blood-Queen Lana'thel is only accessible after clearing the three previous bosses of the Crimson Hall wing (Lord Blood-Heart, Countess Stalvan, the Blood Prince Council); they cannot be bypassed.
Alongside farming the dagger, you can collect the boss's other rewards: the Blood-Queen drops the ring "Sealed Vermillion Casket" and the shoulders "Sunblessed Pauldrons," both useful for transmog.
If the goal is transmog only and not stats, the Normal version 51846 is the cheapest in terms of time: the Heroic 51384 gives visually the same blade but requires an available Heroic lockout.
The item is bound on pickup, so you can't pass it from an alt to your main — go in straight away on the character you need.
Once per week per single instance: if no drop comes after five or six weeks, it's useful to add a parallel farm of the Heroic version 51384 on the same character after the lockout reset — the model is identical in both cases.
