Overview

Broken Stalactite

Game iconBroken Stalactite is a rare one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a short blade with a cold, icy palette: the edge resembles a snapped-off shard of a mountain icicle, a direct nod to both its name and the snowy caves of Northrend.

The dagger is of rare quality and suits any class that wields daggers — rogues, druids, warlocks, priests, mages, shamans, demon hunters and warriors. Its low item level is irrelevant here: only appearance matters for transmogrification, and the cold silhouette of the Broken Stalactite fits neatly into any icy or wintry look.

The dagger's main value lies not in its stats but in its accessibility. It is a reliable way to obtain a clean frosty weapon model without raiding and without depending on a lucky drop: the appearance is guaranteed to be sold for reputation.

Source

The Broken Stalactite is a reputation reward. The dagger is sold by the quartermaster Lillehoff, the vendor of the Sons of Hodir faction. He stands in the settlement of Dun Niffelem — the stronghold of the ice giants in the eastern part of The Storm Peaks zone in Northrend.

Key purchase requirements:

  • You need the Honored reputation level with the Sons of Hodir faction.
  • The dagger costs 43 gold.
  • The purchase is not limited: the item can be taken at any time once you have the required reputation.
  • The minimum level to use the item is 30, but to unlock the appearance it is enough simply to receive the dagger in your bags.

Access to the faction opens up through a chain of quests in The Storm Peaks. The starting quest — They Took Our Men! — is picked up from Gretchen Fizzlespark in the goblin town of K3 in the south of the zone. After completing the introductory chains, the Sons of Hodir daily quests open up, which is where the reputation is earned.

The path from Honored to being able to buy the dagger can be walked in several ways:

  • Faction daily quests — the main and most stable source of reputation.
  • Turning in Everfrost Chips, which appear all across The Storm Peaks.
  • Choosing a Sons of Hodir reputation token as a reward for the daily dungeon in Dalaran.

Honored is only the second reputation threshold before Exalted, so most players reach the dagger fairly quickly, long before collecting all of the faction's rewards.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Ideal for icy and wintry looks: the blade's cold palette echoes the frosty sets of death knights and shaman armor in blue-and-white tones.
  • Pairs well with Northrend-era gear — sets from The Storm Peaks, Icecrown and Wrath of the Lich King dungeons.
  • The icicle-shaped blade reinforces "nature" concepts — the image of a seer druid or a shaman drawing on the elements of water and ice.
  • The short, unassuming silhouette is fitting for stealthy rogue looks: the dagger does not steal attention and works as part of a cohesive dark-and-cold appearance.
  • A debatable but striking contrast comes from pairing it with warm gold-and-red armor — the icy blade becomes an accent detail.

Tips

1

Reputation with the Sons of Hodir is easy to earn along the way: the faction's daily quests are compactly arranged around Dun Niffelem, and the circuit takes just a few minutes.

2

Before traveling to The Storm Peaks, it is worth completing the Sons of Hodir introductory chain — without it the faction's daily quests and item turn-ins are unavailable.

3

In a single trip to Lillehoff it makes sense to grab both the Broken Stalactite dagger and the Stalactite Chopper axe if you plan to assemble a matching icy look.

4

The dagger becomes soulbound upon receipt, so it cannot be passed to another character — the appearance must be unlocked by the hero who earns the reputation.

5

For the appearance collection the buyer's class does not matter: it is enough that the character can wield daggers at all, and the appearance will be added to the account-wide wardrobe.

6

If your reputation is already at Exalted, the dagger still remains for sale — the Honored threshold is merely a minimum, not a separate temporary stage.

7

For those who are simultaneously collecting other Sons of Hodir rewards, it pays not to stop at Honored: at Exalted, Lillehoff unlocks riding mammoths and profession recipes.
