Get Chewed Reins of the Callow Flayedwing mount

Chewed Reins of the Callow Flayedwing is a rare flying mount added in the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0.1). The Callow Flayedwing is a young two-headed chimaera from Maldraxxus with distinctive bony wings and a greenish tint to its body. The mount hatches from a Blight-Touched Egg, which has an extremely low chance to drop from chimaeras in the Maldraxxus zone.

The mechanic for obtaining this mount resembles the Green Proto-Drake from Wrath of the Lich King — you loot an egg, wait several real-life days for it to hatch, and are guaranteed to receive the mount.

• Unique model — the Callow Flayedwing has an unusual undead two-headed chimaera design that stands out among standard flying mounts
• Guaranteed result — once you have the egg, the mount drops with a 100% chance. The only real difficulty is obtaining the egg itself
• Solo farm — the mount is obtained entirely solo, with no need to form a group or run raids
• Available on all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection of every character on the account
• No covenant requirement — the egg can drop regardless of which covenant you chose in Shadowlands (or whether you chose one at all)

1. Head to Maldraxxus. If you have never been to the Shadowlands, use the portal to Oribos from your faction capital (Stormwind or Orgrimmar). From Oribos, fly to Maldraxxus via the flight point
2. Make your way to the area west of the Theater of Pain — coordinates roughly 44, 49. There is a high concentration of chimaeras here
3. Kill chimaeras in this area. The egg can drop from the following creatures:
   • Neonate Bonetooth — the main farming target, high density
   • Ravenous Galescreamer
   • Galescreamer Pup
   • Satiated Sawtooth
   • Smorgas the Feaster
   • Gristlebeak
4. When the Blight-Touched Egg drops, it will land in your inventory. Do not delete it or move it to your bank — the egg must stay in your character's bags
5. Wait 5 real-life days. After that period, the egg automatically turns into a Cracked Blight-Touched Egg
6. Right-click the cracked egg — you will receive the Chewed Reins of the Callow Flayedwing
7. Use the reins to learn the mount. The Callow Flayedwing will appear in your collection

Maldraxxus is one of the four main zones of the Shadowlands. You can get there in several ways.

Through Oribos (recommended method)

1. Reach Oribos — the central city of the Shadowlands. The portal to Oribos is located in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde)
2. In Oribos, find the flight master and pick up the flight point to Maldraxxus
3. If the flight point is not yet unlocked, complete the Shadowlands intro questline — it will automatically guide you through all four zones

Through the Chromie system (for characters below level 50)

If your character is below level 50, you can activate the Shadowlands timeline through Chromie in your faction capital. This grants access to the Shadowlands content with automatic level scaling.

Farming spot coordinates

The area west of the Theater of Pain — this is where the density of Neonate Bonetooths is highest, with fast respawns.

Drop Chance and the Math

The drop chance of the Blight-Touched Egg is approximately 0.2–0.3%. According to player reports, obtaining the egg takes on average 400 to 800 kills, although individual cases range from 15 to over 1,300 kills.

Best Farming Spot

The area at coordinates 44, 49 west of the Theater of Pain is optimal for several reasons:

• High density of Neonate Bonetooths
• Fast mob respawns
• The mobs have low health and die instantly at level 80
• A convenient circular farming route

An alternative location is the coordinates 58, 70 by the slime lakes, where blight-touched stormriders dwell. This area is less popular and may suit you if the main spot is occupied by other players.

Which Class to Farm On

At level 90 (Midnight), any class kills Maldraxxus mobs instantly. Nevertheless, for maximum farming speed the following are recommended:

• Druid — instant switching between flight and combat form, fast movement between mob groups
• Hunter — the ability to deal damage on the move, Multi-Shot for quickly clearing groups
• Monk — high mobility, effective area-of-effect abilities

Extra Benefit

If you have the Skinning profession, you can skin the slain chimaeras at the same time. This yields extra materials that can be sold on the auction house.

Farming on Multiple Characters

The egg is not tied to daily or weekly limits — you can farm on a single character as much as you like. However, since the drop chance is identical for all characters, using alts provides no mathematical advantage. It is recommended to focus on a single character with the highest mob-kill speed.
