Get Coalfist Gronnling mount

The Coalfist Gronnling is an epic ground mount added in patch 6.2.0 "Fury of Hellfire". It is a compact, coal-grey gronn with blue saddle tack that moves with the distinctive, menacing gait shared by all gronnlings. According to its mount journal entry: "This little gronn is famous for crashing into garrison taverns and smashing everything to pieces."

The mount is a reward for successfully completing the rare garrison mission Breaker of Two. This is a level 100 mission that requires three followers with item level 675. The mission appears at random and is considered one of the rarest in the garrison system.

• Unique gronnling model — the Coalfist Gronnling has a coal-grey coloring with blue accents that sets it apart from the two other gronnlings in the game: the Sunhide Gronnling and the Gorestrider Gronnling.
• Can be sold or bought — unlike most mounts, the item binds when used rather than when picked up. You can sell it on the Auction House or buy it from other players.
• Available to all characters — once learned, the mount becomes available to every character on your account.
• Collector value — gronnlings are iconic creatures of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. All three color variants are highly prized by collectors.
• Passive acquisition — if you already have a garrison set up, it is enough to check the mission list periodically. No long grinds or difficult fights are required.

The primary method of acquisition is completing the rare garrison mission "Breaker of Two". For this you need a fully developed garrison in Draenor with a sufficient number of leveled followers.

1. Build a level 3 garrison in Draenor (if you don't have one yet, start with the Warlords of Draenor story campaign via the Chromie system).
2. Recruit at least 15 active level 100 followers.
3. Level at least 3 followers to item level 675 and another 7 followers to item level 645.
4. Regularly check the command table for the appearance of the "Breaker of Two" mission.
5. When the mission appears, send the three most suitable followers on it.
6. Wait for the mission to complete (12 hours) and collect the reward.
7. Use the Coalfist Gronnling item to learn the mount.

If you don't yet have a leveled garrison, the steps below describe how to prepare it for obtaining the mount.

Establishing the Garrison

The garrison unlocks automatically as you complete the starting quests of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. If your character has not yet been to Draenor:

1. Speak to Chromie in your faction's capital and select the "Warlords of Draenor" timeline
2. Take the starting quest that transports you to the Dark Portal
3. Complete the introductory quest chain — it concludes with the construction of your garrison
4. Upgrade the garrison to level 3 by completing story quests and gathering garrison resources

Useful Buildings

• Barracks, level 3 — increases the maximum number of active followers to 25 and unlocks high-experience patrol missions
• Armory / War Mill — produces upgrades for followers through work orders, allowing you to raise their item level
• Salvage Yard, level 3 — provides follower equipment crates as a bonus reward for missions
• Inn/Tavern, level 2 — lets you recruit a new follower with the abilities and traits you need each week

Leveling Followers to 675

Followers start at the base item level of 600 after reaching level 100. The increase happens in stages: 600 → 615 → 630 → 645 → 660 → 675.

• Weapon and armor upgrades — drop from missions and Armory work orders. Each upgrade raises a follower's weapon or armor item level by 3–6 points
• Salvage Yard crates — contain random follower upgrades
• Upgrade missions — as the overall item level of your followers rises, higher-level upgrade missions unlock

At level 80 in The War Within, all garrison missions complete with a high chance of success even without a perfect ability match.

The mission consists of three encounters with "breaker"-type enemies in Gorgrond.

Follower Selection Recommendations

To maximize the chance of success, select followers with abilities that counter the mission's mechanics:

• Against Wild Aggression — abilities that reduce damage (for example, Roar, Divine Shield)
• Against Deadly Minions — area-of-effect damage abilities (for example, Divine Storm)
• Against Powerful Spell — interrupt abilities (for example, Charge)
• The "Moon Child" or "Void Slayer" trait — provides an extra bonus to the chance of success

At level 80 with followers at item level 675, the success chance is usually 90–100% even without a perfect match.

The "Breaker of Two" mission belongs to the category of rare garrison missions that appear at random.

• The rare mission that rewards a mount appears roughly once a week when all follower requirements are met.
• The available missions are checked at the weekly reset — if you reach the required follower parameters in the middle of the week, the mission may not appear until the next reset.
• The appearance of "Breaker of Two" specifically is not guaranteed — the rare mission pool contains other options as well.
• The mission can appear again even after a successful completion — you can obtain several copies of the mount.

Speeding Up the Process

• Set up a garrison on several alt characters — each character has an independent set of missions.
• Use the Garrison Mission Manager addon to quickly check missions across all characters.
• Regularly complete active missions to free up slots for new ones to appear.

Because the item binds when used rather than when picked up, the Coalfist Gronnling can be purchased on the Auction House from other players.

• The average Auction House price ranges from 1,000 to 5,000 gold depending on the region and server.
• Supply is limited — only a small number of copies are usually present on the Auction House.
• If you don't want to spend time setting up a garrison, buying on the Auction House is the fastest way to obtain it.
• Check the Auction House regularly, as the price can fluctuate significantly.

There are three gronnling mounts available in the game, each with a unique coloring.

All three mounts are ground mounts and use the same base model with different textures. Collectors are encouraged to gather all the variants.
