Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake

Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake is a flying mount from The Burning Crusade expansion. This striking cobalt-blue drake belongs to the Netherwing faction and is available in two ways: as a quest reward upon reaching Exalted, or for 200 gold from a vendor. The mount is one of six Netherwing drakes in various colors.

Grinding Netherwing reputation from Hated to Exalted takes 7–14 days on average and involves completing daily quests on Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley (Outland).

Step 1: Starting the Quest Chain

Head to Shadowmoon Valley (Outland) and find the NPC Mordenai in the Netherwing Fields in the southeastern part of the zone.

Mordenai wanders the fields and fights the Dragonmaw, so you may need to wait a little for him to appear.

Step 2: Quest Chain from Hated to Neutral

Complete the starting chain of nine quests that takes you from Hated to Neutral:

A group is recommended for the quest “Zuluhed the Whacked,” though at a high character level this quest is easily completed solo.

Step 3: Riding Skill

To continue the chain you will need riding skill 300 (Master Riding). Without this skill you cannot accept the quest In Service of the Illidari from Mordenai and move on to the daily quests on the Ledge.

Step 4: Daily Quests (Neutral — Exalted)

After reaching Neutral, move to Netherwing Ledge. As your reputation grows, new daily quests open up:

Neutral (3–4 quests, 250 reputation each):

Friendly (3 additional quests, 350 reputation each):

Honored (1 additional quest, 500 reputation):

Revered (1 additional quest, 500 reputation):

At Revered, a combat quest opens up that grants maximum reputation:

The quest version depends on which side you chose in Shattrath — Aldor or Scryers. Beforehand you must complete the quest Kill Them All! (250 reputation).

Step 5: Netherwing Eggs (Speeding Up the Grind)

Netherwing Egg is a repeatable way to gain reputation. The first egg is turned in for the quest The Great Netherwing Egg Hunt (350 reputation), and each subsequent one for the quest Accepting All Eggs (250 reputation).

Eggs can be found:

• On the ground and on the ledges of Netherwing Ledge
• In Nether Dust bushes
• In Nethercite deposits
• From monsters on the Ledge (rarely)
• From Netherspite in the Karazhan raid (rarely)

Eggs spawn randomly and at a low rate. On crowded servers, competition for them is fierce.

Step 6: Final Chain at Exalted

Upon reaching Exalted with the Netherwing, a final chain awaits you:

1. Lord Illidan Stormrage — a quest from Overlord Mor'ghor
2. Jorus the Cobalt Netherwing Drake — you choose one of six drakes in Shattrath

After completing the final quest, you choose one drake for free. To get the cobalt drake, choose exactly the Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake.

Upon reaching Exalted you receive one drake for free via a quest, and you can purchase the remaining five from Drake Dealer Hurlunk for 200 gold each.

Netherwing Ledge is located in the southeast of Shadowmoon Valley in Outland. It is a floating island that can only be reached on a flying mount.

How to get there:

1. Use the portal to Shattrath from your faction's capital
2. From Shattrath, fly southeast into Shadowmoon Valley
3. Mordenai is in the Netherwing Fields (southeast of the zone, at ground level)
4. Netherwing Ledge is a floating island south of the Fields; a flying mount is required

• Complete all daily quests every day — this is the main source of reputation. Skipping even a single day significantly increases the overall grind time
• Collect Netherwing Eggs on every visit — each egg grants 250 reputation and considerably speeds up the process
• Use your profession — if you have mining, skinning, or herbalism, an additional daily quest will be available to you from the very start
• Choose off-peak times — on popular servers eggs are snatched up quickly. Early morning or late night will improve your chances
• The Kirin Tor Tabard and contracts don't work — reputation bonuses from later expansions do not affect Outland factions
• Estimated timeframe — completing all quests daily without eggs takes about 14 days. With active egg collecting, the time shortens to 7–10 days
