Overview

Crypt Gargon

Game iconCrypt Gargon is a ground mount of the Venthyr covenant, added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0). It is a pale, bony gargon with a massive jaw and a black leather saddle, visually evoking the Stonewright's loyal hounds that patrol the catacombs and crypts of Revendreth.

The mount is granted as a reward for completing the quest "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall..." — the penultimate task of the "Greed" chapter, the fourth chapter of the Venthyr covenant campaign. To reach this quest, your character must join the Venthyr covenant in Revendreth and raise your covenant Renown to at least level 11.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique bony gargon model — nowhere else in the game is there a ground mount with this silhouette. The large skull, long horns and pale coloring make the Crypt Gargon one of the most recognizable Venthyr rewards
  • Guaranteed storyline reward — unlike rare boss drops, the mount is granted after a simple quest chain completion. No lotteries or farming required
  • Complete gargon set — together with the Game iconBattle Gargon Vrednic, Game iconBattle Gargon Silessa, Game iconDesire's Battle Gargon and Game iconSinfall Gargon, it forms a collection of covenant gargons that keeps Venthyr fans returning to Revendreth
  • Account-wide at Renown 80 — after reaching maximum Renown with the Venthyr, the mount can be used on any character on your account, regardless of which covenant they belong to
  • Bypasses Shadowlands restrictions — gargons used to be summonable only in Shadowlands zones. In the current patch the restriction is lifted, and the mount works in any location where ground mounts are allowed

How to Obtain

The main path to the mount is completing the Venthyr covenant campaign.

  1. Open Shadowlands and fly to Revendreth — a zone of Gothic castles and rivers of anima
  2. Complete the zone storyline and join the Venthyr covenant in Sinfall. Alternatively, switch your current covenant to the Venthyr through the covenant menu in the capital
  3. Begin the story campaign and raise Renown to level 11 through weekly quests, the Ember Court, assaults, soul keepsakes and treasures of Revendreth
  4. Pick up the "Greed" chapter in Sinfall. Complete the chapter's previous quests: The Medallion of Greed, The Curator, Sentinel Emil, Special Access and their branches
  5. Reach the quest Mirror, Mirror on the Wall.... Enter the Curator's mirror, traverse the hidden crypt and retrieve the Medallion of Greed
  6. Turn in the quest to the Curator — among the rewards, choose the Game iconCrypt Gargon
  7. Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection

The Full "Greed" Chapter Chain

To reach the reward quest, you need to complete all the chapter's tasks in sequence. You cannot skip steps — the chain is strictly linear.

# Quest Description
1 The Medallion of Greed Prince Renathal tasks you with returning the Stonewright's medallion
2 The Curator You find the Curator in the Chamber of the Catacombs
3 Sentinel Emil and side quests Freeing the Stonewright's assistant, obtaining the first half of the mirror
4 Insiders Only and side quests Confronting the traitor Mateo, obtaining the second half of the mirror
5 Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... Reward — Crypt Gargon. Entering the crypt through the restored mirror
6 Return to Sinfall The chapter's finale, turning in the medallion

The average chapter completion time is 30 to 60 minutes, provided you already have access to the quest locations.

Raising Renown to Level 11

Renown is the Shadowlands covenant progression system. Without at least level 11, you cannot even begin the "Greed" chapter. The main sources of Renown:

  • Weekly quest — grants 3 levels of Renown one time. This is the key source
  • Story chapters of the covenant campaign — each new chapter automatically increases Renown by 1-2 levels after completing it
  • Shadowlands assaults — weekly events in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald and Revendreth. They grant anima shards, reputation and chances at rare drops
  • Treasures of doubt in Revendreth — one-time objects with anima and progress
  • Soul keepsakes — a choice for progress in the Ember Court and assaults

At the current maximum level (90), Renown progress moves faster than in the original Shadowlands, thanks to increased anima drops and lowered requirements.

Tips

1

Create a character for the Venthyr if you don't plan to switch your main — switching covenant on your main character will require redoing the story and grinding Renown from scratch. An alternative is to level an alt to 60, complete the Shadowlands intro campaign and join the Venthyr on it

2

Don't skip the chapter's side quests — Sentinel Emil and Special Access have branches. If you leave them unfinished, the Mirror, Mirror... quest will not activate

3

Maintain steady Renown progress — complete the Together for the Darklands weekly each week until you reach at least level 11. Otherwise the chain will stall on the Renown requirement

4

Use the Sinfall hearthstone — obtained during the Shadowlands story, it lets you quickly return to the campaign's Stonewright

5

Keep up the campaign after getting the mount — the next chapter unlocks access to the inv_deathwargmount2blackBattle Gargon Vrednic, a similar mount in a different color. Collectors should complete the entire campaign cycle

6

Account-wide access unlocks at Renown 80 — if you want to ride the Crypt Gargon on characters of other covenants, keep raising Renown with the Venthyr to the maximum. After that the restriction lifts for the entire account

7

Don't rush your covenant choice — besides the mount, the Venthyr offer unique abilities, a cloak set and the Ember Court system. Check whether the Gothic vampire castle theme suits your playstyle before switching your main character
