Get Darkmoon Dirk
Overview

Darkmoon Dirk is a rare one-handed dagger thematically tied to the Darkmoon Faire. It is a compact, low-item-level bladed weapon with a simple, slightly curved blade shape — a recognizable "basic" dagger silhouette without ornate decorative elements.
The item arrived in World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, when the Inscription profession and its associated Darkmoon card system were added to the game. In terms of stats, the dagger has long been irrelevant: item level 13, requires character level 17, with a bonus of just "+3 Agility." That is why its value today lies purely in its appearance for transmogrification.
Its understated shape makes the Darkmoon Dirk a handy base for looks that call for a modest, unassuming blade: starter rogue outfits, roguish and "everyday" sets, and roleplay attire without heavy fantasy armor.
Source
The Darkmoon Dirk is granted as a reward for the quest Demons Deck. It is not a mob drop or a vendor purchase — the item is tied to the Inscription profession and the Darkmoon Faire collectible card system.
The path to obtaining it looks like this:
- Collect all five cards of the Demons deck — from the
Ace of Demons to the Five. Each card is crafted by characters with the Inscription profession. - You can make the cards yourself if you have Inscription leveled, or buy them from other players via the auction house — having the profession yourself is not required.
- Once all five cards are collected, use the Ace of Demons: the cards combine into the item
Demons Deck. - Using the Demons Deck opens a channel to the spirit world and summons the Darkmoon Fortune Teller — this is how you begin the quest.
- Hand the deck to the fortune teller and complete the quest "Demons Deck."
An important detail: summoning the fortune teller and turning in the quest are not tied to the Darkmoon Faire schedule. The deck summons the necessary NPC itself, so you can finish the chain anytime and anywhere, even when the faire itself is not running.
For completing the quest you gain +25 reputation with the Darkmoon Faire and a choice of one of three equipment items. The rewards are mutually exclusive — in a single run you can only take one:
Item | Weapon Type |
|---|---|
| One-handed dagger | |
| Two-handed axe | |
| Two-handed staff |
To get the Darkmoon Dirk specifically, select it in the reward window when turning in the quest. If you also want the other rewards for your appearance collection, the chain with a new Demons deck can be repeated.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits looks for entry-level rogues and rogue-types — a plain, unadorned blade pairs well with light leather armor.
- Harmonizes with "everyday" and roleplay outfits without heavy metallic elements, where the weapon should look like a modest tool rather than a relic.
- Matches Darkmoon Faire-themed sets and outfits for performers, illusionists, and fortune tellers.
- Contrasts with massive plate armor sets — against bulky armor the compact dagger looks debatable, but it can work as a deliberate "hidden weapon" touch.
- Convenient as a paired blade: in a set of two identical Darkmoon Dirks, the understated model does not overload the character's silhouette.
Tips
You do not need the Inscription profession yourself: the five cards of the Demons deck are freely sold by other players on the auction house.
Card prices fluctuate heavily — before assembling the deck, compare the cost of the individual cards and check whether it is cheaper to buy a ready-made Demons Deck outright.
The cards must be combined as a full set from ace to five — an incomplete set will not form the deck.
Complete the quest when you actually need a specific reward: one deck grants only one of the three items.
To collect all three rewards for your appearance collection — the dagger, the axe, and the staff — you will need to run the Demons deck chain three times.
You can turn in the quest at any moment: the deck summons the Darkmoon Fortune Teller itself, so there is no need to wait for the faire to open.
Along the way you gain +25 reputation with the Darkmoon Faire — a small but pleasant bonus if you are collecting its rewards in parallel.
Once obtained, the Darkmoon Dirk's appearance is saved in your character's appearance collection, and you can apply the transmogrification to any suitable dagger.
