Death's Sting — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Death's Sting is an epic one-handed dagger from the classic era. The weapon model is designed in a Qiraji style: a dark chitinous blade with greenish veins and a carved bone hilt that echoes the architecture and armor of Ahn'Qiraj.
The dagger was added to World of Warcraft with the 1.11.1 patch "Gates of Ahn'Qiraj" and drops only from the raid's final boss. At modern levels the item's combat value is reduced to zero, so today players collect Death's Sting purely for its appearance — it looks great on rogues, hunters, and shamans built around the "bug" and Old God theme.
Historically the item belongs to the era of vanilla content and is forever tied to the Ahn'Qiraj raid in Silithus. It is usually farmed solo at max level with one attempt per week.
Source
Death's Sting drops from C'Thun — the final boss of the Ahn'Qiraj raid in Silithus. The item has no other sources.
- Raid location — Silithus, the southwestern coast of Kalimdor.
- Difficulty — the only one (a classic-era raid, with no Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, or Mythic difficulty).
- Drop chance from C'Thun — about 8.74%.
- Binding — becomes soulbound on pickup.
- Limit — the raid is locked to one clear per week per character.
The gate-opening quest chain is no longer required for entry today: the raid was opened long ago on the servers, and access is free. It is enough to enter the raid dungeon and clear all bosses up to C'Thun. At max level in Midnight the entire raid is cleared solo in 15–20 minutes on any class of average survivability.
Alternatives and recolors
There are no full recolors of Death's Sting in the game — the model is unique to this item. For a Qiraji-styled look, it is also worth checking the daggers that drop from the bosses of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj raid and the neighboring Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj: weapons of the same era share a common palette and silhouette, which lets you assemble a cohesive "insectoid" set.
Who it suits visually
- Pairs with Tier 2.5, the "Deathdealer's Embrace" — the Qiraji rogue set from Ahn'Qiraj itself.
- Looks good alongside a second dagger that drops in classic-era raids: it creates a cohesive "insectoid" look.
- Suits hunters as decoration for the melee slot, especially with sets that have a greenish, chitinous palette.
- Contrasts with bright tiger motifs and gold-toned armor — for dark, swampy, and desert looks this choice works better.
- Harmonizes with transmog sets themed around the Old Gods, the Emerald Nightmare, and ancient nightmares thanks to the shared lore connection with C'Thun.
Tips
Enter the raid once a week at max level — C'Thun is killed solo with one strong hit.
It is most convenient to farm on classes with fast movement and good survivability: death knight, paladin, demon hunter.
Eight more bosses stand on the way to C'Thun. They can be killed for an additional chance at the classic-era Tier 2.5 transmog sets.
If you are hunting for the full look, it is worth clearing the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj at the same time to gather the accompanying daggers and bracers in the same style.
With an 8.74% drop chance, you need a median of 8–12 attempts, that is about two to three months of weekly farming. It makes sense to bring several characters into the raid.
On low-level alts, the easiest way to teleport to Ahn'Qiraj is via a hearthstone bound to Silithus, or through a group teleport from a friend.
Keep in mind the "Unique-Equipped" limit: you cannot hold more than one Death's Sting in your inventory — farming for a second copy is pointless.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
