Overview

Драконья кувалда

Game iconDraconic Maul is an epic two-handed blunt mace originating from classic World of Warcraft. The model is a massive club with a spiked head in a draconic theme, kept in dark red-and-black tones to match the overall look of Blackwing Lair.

The weapon belongs to the set of trophies that drop from Death Talon drakonids — the elite guards protecting the lair's halls. In both model and palette the maul ties in perfectly with the other loot from this raid, so it is prized as part of a "draconic" look for warriors and other masters of two-handed combat.

Originally it was a combat item of item level 40, but today it is interesting purely for its appearance: the content has long been outdated and can be cleared solo, while the mace itself serves as a ready-made transmog piece.

Source

Draconic Maul drops from the elite drakonid guards in the Blackwing Lair raid, located deep within Blackrock Mountain. It is not a drop from a specific boss, but a trophy from the trash mobs between bosses.

  • The main source is the Death Talon Wyrmkin, with a drop chance of about 3-4%.
  • The item becomes soulbound on pickup, so it cannot be passed to another character — you will have to farm it with the hero who needs it.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts: the trash dragons can be slaughtered on every raid run, and the raid itself resets once a week.

To reach the drakonids, enter Blackwing Lair through the portal in the upper part of the Blackrock Mountain dungeon. At max level, the entire path to the hall with the dragons is cleared in a couple of minutes.

Who it suits visually

  • It harmonizes with dark-red armor sets of classic raid tier — for example, with the plate sets of Blackwing Lair.
  • It fits draconic and warlock-themed looks thanks to the spiked head and blood-black palette.
  • It is fitting for warriors, paladins, and death knights who go for a menacing "dark knight" appearance.
  • It contrasts with bright holy sets — a debatable but expressive choice for an original look.

Tips

1

The optimal classes for solo farming are paladin or death knight: they quickly clear dense groups of drakonids and hold up well against damage.

2

There are many drakonids before Razorgore, and each of them has a chance to drop the maul — wipe out the whole group rather than individual mobs.

3

A single run usually yields several attempts, but the chance is low, so plan for several weeks of raiding.

4

Alongside the maul, other epic weapon samples drop from these same dragons — the farm pays off with several transmog trophies at once.

5

The raid resets weekly, but the trash mobs respawn even on a repeat entry within the same reset if you left the instance.

6

Bring a character of the same faction and class that needs the look: the item is soulbound and non-transferable.

7

Do not confuse Death Talon drakonids with bosses like Chromaggus — the maul drops specifically from the trash guards, not from the raid's named bosses.
