Dragonmaw — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Dragonmaw is an epic one-handed mace with a draconic theme, added to World of Warcraft alongside The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a massive head shaped like a dragon's maw set on a short haft. The model is rendered in warm tones and looks great in dragon- and flame-themed outfits.
Dragonmaw is not a standalone item but the middle link of the well-known blacksmithing weapon upgrade chain tied to the Master Hammersmith specialization. First you craft the
Drakefist Hammer, then reforge it into Dragonmaw, which is later upgraded into the final
Dragonstrike. All three links use related models from the same series.
For collectors the appearance is valuable precisely as part of this line: it can only be obtained through a profession, which means it appears in collections far more rarely than a typical dungeon drop.
Source
Dragonmaw is created with the Blacksmithing profession and is bound on pickup (the crafter must wield it themselves or make it for the appearance on their own blacksmith).
- Profession: Blacksmithing, skill 375.
- Specialization:
Master Hammersmith — the
Weaponsmith branch. Without this specialization the recipe is unavailable. - The recipe is sold by Kradu Grimblade in the Lower City of Shattrath.
Reagents
Dragonmaw is assembled from the previous link of the chain and rare reagents:
- 1 ×
Drakefist Hammer — the previous step, which the blacksmith crafts themselves. - 8 ×
Primal Nether. - 2 ×
Primal Might.
The Drakefist Hammer itself is made at skill 350 from primal elements and bars, so in practice you will have to go through two crafting steps in a row for the appearance.
Visual Fit
- Harmonizes with dragon-themed looks — sets featuring scales, wings, and a warm palette.
- Looks great paired with a shield or a second one-handed weapon in similar warm tones.
- Contrasts with cold blue or silver armor, creating a bright accent in the hand.
- Suits veterans who want a recognizable item from The Burning Crusade era as a nod to old blacksmithing content.
Tips
The appearance is only available through Blacksmithing with the Master Hammersmith specialization — you cannot get it on a character without the right branch.
First you must craft the Drakefist Hammer at skill 350, and only then reforge it into Dragonmaw — budget reagents for both steps at once.
The recipe is sold by Kradu Grimblade in the Lower City of Shattrath, so visit this vendor in advance.
The finished item is bound on pickup, so you need to assemble the appearance on the very character who owns the profession.
Primal Nether and Primal Might are the most expensive reagents; it is cheaper to gather them ahead of time or buy them on the auction house.
If you also want the final appearance of the series down the line, do not disassemble Dragonmaw: it serves as a reagent for the upgrade into Dragonstrike.
