Enchanted Dreamlight Runestag
Overview

Enchanted Dreamlight Runestag is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft with the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0.1). It is a majestic antlered stag of Ardenweald with lush glowing antlers that draw anima from the surrounding light of the groves. The model is rendered in soft green-blue tones with a golden glow and perfectly captures the aesthetic of the Night Fae covenant.
The mount is granted as a guaranteed reward for the quest Drust and Ashes — the final, eighth stage of the Night Fae covenant story campaign. So it is not a drop or a purchase: by completing the Night Fae story to the end, you add the mount to your collection without farming or randomness.
An important detail: the mount is tied to the covenant. You can only summon it while you are a member of the Night Fae. If you switch covenants, the mount stays in your collection but becomes unusable until you return to the Night Fae.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed campaign reward — no need to rely on luck or repeat content over and over. Complete chapter eight, get the mount
- Unique stag appearance — one of four enchanted versions of the Ardenweald runestag, with light emerald fur and radiant white antlers
- A memento of the story — the Night Fae campaign is one of the most scenic in Shadowlands, with groves, fairy spirits, and the Winter Queen. The mount serves as a monument to the path you walked
- Account-wide access — once obtained for the first time, it appears in the mount collection of every character belonging to the Night Fae
How to Get into the Night Fae Campaign
The easiest way into Shadowlands in 2026 is through Chromie. Completing the introductory story once and choosing a covenant is a required step that cannot be skipped.
The First Journey to Ardenweald
- Fly to Stormwind or Orgrimmar, find the Shadowlands portal by the portal room — begin the introductory chain
- Complete the introductory campaign up to Oribos and the quest "Choose Your Purpose" from Tal-Inara
- At level four, get acquainted with all four covenants, including the Night Fae in Ardenweald
- Accept the offer to join the Night Fae from the Winter Queen in the Heart of the Forest
- Complete the first chapter of the campaign — "Defender of Ardenweald"
For Characters Who Have Already Done Shadowlands
If your other character has already finished the Shadowlands campaign at least once, an alt can use an accelerated path:
- In Oribos, take the quest The Threads of Fate from the Fatescribe Roh-Tahl — skip the linear story and choose a covenant right away
- From the merchant Au'Dara in Oribos, buy the
Broker Mark of Distinction for 500 gold, which grants an instant Renown level 40 - For alts, this dramatically speeds up access to chapters 7 and 8 of the campaign
How to Get the Mount — Step-by-Step Guide
- Join the Night Fae Take the joining quest from the Winter Queen
- Unlock the command table in the Heart of the Forest and begin raising Renown. Each weekly reset opens access to the next chapter of the campaign
- Complete chapters as they unlock:
- Chapter 1: "Defender of Ardenweald" — available right after joining
- Chapter 2: "Lend Us Your Strength" — Renown 3
- Chapter 3: "Guard the Groves" — Renown 5
- Chapter 4: "Bad Boss" — Renown 8
- Chapter 5: "The Night Warrior's Curse" — Renown 11
- Chapter 6: "From Drust Till Drust" — Renown 13
- Chapter 7: "The Antlered Hunter" — Renown 17
- Chapter 8 (finale): "Drust and Ashes" — Renown 22
- Reach Renown level 22. Ways to earn it: turning in anima at the Sanctum, rescuing souls from the Maw, story chests in Torghast, weekly tasks from Kalia and Bova
- Take the quest "We Strike Now" from Lord Herne before the Dark Wastes. This is the starting quest of the final chapter
- Complete the chain of seven quests of the eighth chapter. It leads to the final confrontation with the Drust and Gorak Zhar
- Finish "Drust and Ashes" — defend the Grove of Awakening and kill Gorak Zhar using the Queen's blessing
- Turn in the final quest to the Winter Queen — receive the
Enchanted Dreamlight Runestag in the reward bag
The Fight with Gorak Zhar and the Final Scenario
The quest "Drust and Ashes" is a short scenario in which you defend the Grove of Awakening from waves of Drust. In 2026, at level 90, it is completed with ease, but it has its own mechanics.
- Step into the circle of light before the Winter Queen — you receive a blessing that increases outgoing damage by 55%, reduces incoming damage by 90%, and grants haste and movement speed
- The additional ability Queen's Wrath instantly destroys a target and recharges in 35 seconds — use it on elite mobs
- Fend off several waves of Drust in the grove, moving as the quest directs
- The final fight with Gorak Zhar is an ordinary raid mini-boss with no complex mechanics. At max level it is killed in 30-60 seconds
- After the victory, return to the Winter Queen in the Heart of the Forest and collect your rewards
At level 90, the Queen's blessing is doubled by the enormous scaling, so the fight is practically impossible to lose even in weak gear.
How to Speed Up Renown
The mount unlocks as soon as you reach Renown level 22, so the main optimization of this guide is the speed of gaining Renown, not the final quest itself.
- Turn in anima weekly at the Night Fae Sanctum: the quest Fair Exchange for a Soul gives 1 level of Renown
- Do Kalia's tasks in the Maw — there are guaranteed Stone Shards with Renown there
- Run Torghast on layer 8 — the boss chest sometimes contains a Renown fragment
- Do the weekly covenant feats — helping Bova and Kalia in Oribos
- Use the
Broker Mark of Distinction on alts — it gives Renown level 40 instantly
In 2026, all Renown mechanics still work, including weekly resets and the catch-up mechanic — alts no longer need to grind Renown one level at a time, it depends on the maximum reached on the account.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't rush to switch covenants — if you only want the mount, stay locked into the Night Fae until Renown 22 and the finale. Switching covenants won't take the mount away, but it will block its use
- One character is enough — the Enchanted Dreamlight Runestag is account-bound, so you don't need to obtain it on every alt
- Check the weekly reset — a new chapter unlocks only on the next reset after you reach the required Renown. If you hit Renown 22 on Thursday, the chapter will appear on Wednesday
- The quest "Drust and Ashes" cannot be interrupted — it has no weekly lock, it is completed once per character and gives the mount immediately upon completion
- If the campaign seems "stuck" — check whether all previous chapters have been turned in. Sometimes players skip chapter 4 or 5 and then can't find the continuation for a long time
- Keep anima in reserve — the weekly anima turn-in remains one of the reliable sources of Renown, and a little extra in the Sanctum never hurts

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
