Felfire Hawk — How to Get the 250-Mount Collection Reward
Felfire Hawk

Felfire Hawk is a flying mount wreathed in green felfire flames. It is one of three fire hawks in the game, alongside the
Pureblood Fire Hawk and the
Corrupted Fire Hawk. The mount is awarded for the achievement Mountacular — collecting 250 mounts usable by a single character.
The fel version of the fire hawk stands out with its distinctive green glow and flame effects. The item description reads: "The fire of fel is deadly to the touch. Fortunately, the hawk is able to suppress the flame, choosing not to incinerate its rider in an emerald blaze."
How to Get the Felfire Hawk
The mount is a reward for the achievement Mountacular. To obtain it you must collect 250 different mounts usable by a single character.
Key points:
- Only mounts available to the specific character count — not the total number in the account-wide mount journal
- The actual mount count is displayed in the Statistics section of the Achievements tab, not in the mount journal
- Mounts from both factions, professions, and zone-restricted mounts (e.g., underwater) all count
- The achievement has separate IDs for Alliance (9598) and Horde (9599), but requirements are identical
After earning the achievement the mount automatically appears in your mount journal.
Mount Collection Achievement Series
The Felfire Hawk is the seventh reward in the collection achievement chain. The full series:
| Mounts | Achievement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | Stable Keeper | |
| 100 | Mountain o' Mounts | |
| 150 | We're Going to Need More Saddles | |
| 200 | Mount Parade | |
| 250 | Mountacular | |
| 300 | Lord of the Reins | |
| 350 | No Stable Big Enough | |
| 400 | Hoof It to the Finish | |
| 500 | Thanks for the Ride! | |
| 600 | Irresistible Collection |
If you already have the 200-mount reward, you only need 50 more to reach the Felfire Hawk.
Strategy for Collecting 250 Mounts
Below are the main mount categories to focus on when working toward 250. Start with guaranteed sources and gradually move to harder ones.
Faction Vendor Mounts (~30-40 mounts)
The fastest way to start your collection. Each race has a vendor in its capital selling 6 mounts: 3 slow (about 1 gold each) and 3 fast (about 10 gold each). For allied faction races where you haven't reached Exalted, you can use Class Trial — this creates a temporary character of the needed race who can buy mounts without grinding reputation.
Additionally, each faction has flying mount vendors (gryphons, wind riders, dragonhawks) for 50-100 gold.
Class Mounts (~2-8 mounts)
Several classes receive unique mounts:
- Death Knights — undead horse (given during class storyline)
- Warlocks — dreadsteed and felsteed (via quest chains)
- Paladins — warhorse (via quest chain)
- All classes received unique mounts from the Legion expansion campaign
Reputation Mounts (~40-60 mounts)
Nearly every expansion added factions with mounts at quartermasters. Particularly accessible:
- Talbuks from Nagrand (Outland) — 8 mounts from Consortium and Mag'har/Kurenai reputation
- Nether Rays from Terokkar Forest — 5 mounts from Sha'tari reputation
- Cloud Serpents from Pandaria — from Order of the Cloud Serpent reputation
- Mechagon and Nazjatar mounts — from BfA faction reputation
Guaranteed Dungeon and Raid Drops (~15-25 mounts)
A number of mounts drop at 100% chance:
Bronze Drake — Culling of Stratholme (heroic, timed run)
Blue Drake — Obsidian Sanctum (10-player, 3 drakes alive)
Black Drake — Obsidian Sanctum (25-player, 3 drakes alive)
Twilight Drake — Obsidian Sanctum (25-player, 3 drakes alive)
Amani War Bear — Zul'Aman (heroic, timed run)
All of these raids and dungeons can be easily soloed at max level in a few minutes.
Gold-Purchased Mounts (~10-15 mounts)
Some mounts are sold for gold without reputation requirements:
- Mounts from vendors in Dalaran (Northrend and Broken Isles)
- Mounts on the Black Market Auction House (prices vary)
- Mount for 5,000 gold from the Darkmoon Faire vendor
Achievement Mounts (~10-20 mounts)
Meta-achievements from raids and dungeons often reward mounts:
- "Glory of the Hero" series for each expansion
- "Glory of the Raider" series for each raid tier
- Exploration and content-completion achievements
Quest and Campaign Mounts (~15-20 mounts)
Many storylines and side quest chains reward mounts:
- Expansion campaigns
- Island Expedition starter quests
- World event quests
Profession Mounts (~5-10 mounts)
- Engineering — various mechanical mounts
- Leatherworking — water striders
- Tailoring — flying carpets
PvP Mounts (~5-10 mounts)
- Vicious mounts from rated battleground wins (new one each season)
- Honor mounts from PvP vendors
Garrison Stable Mounts (Warlords of Draenor) (~6 mounts)
Building a level-3 stable in your garrison unlocks a quest series for taming Draenor mounts. This is one of the most efficient sources — 6 mounts from completing daily quests.
Collection Optimization Tips
- Start with guaranteed sources — vendors, 100% drops, quests. Leave low-drop-rate mounts for later
- Use Class Trial — create characters of each race via the Class Trial feature to buy faction mounts without reputation grinding
- Check the Statistics page — real progress is shown in the Statistics tab under Achievements, not in the mount journal
- Farm reputations in Chromie Time — reputation bonuses speed up the process
- Don't forget events — Darkmoon Faire, Brewfest, Winter Veil, and other holidays offer unique mounts
- Collect mounts in parallel — while waiting for raid lockout resets, work on quests and reputation

Frequently Asked Questions
Do zone-restricted mounts count? Yes. Underwater mounts (e.g., the Seahorse from Vashj'ir) and mounts that only work in specific zones are counted.
Do opposite-faction mounts count? No. Only mounts that the specific character can summon are counted. A Horde mount won't count for an Alliance character.
Why does the mount journal number differ from the achievement progress? The journal shows the total account-wide mount count, including both factions. The achievement only counts those usable by the current character. Check progress via the Statistics tab.
Can I earn the mount on any character? Yes. After earning the achievement the mount becomes available to all characters on the account.
