Fishing
About the profession
Fishing is one of the secondary professions that you can learn alongside your two main professions. It allows you to catch fish in various bodies of water, which you can either sell to other players on the auction house or use in other professions.
Where to learn Fishing?
How does Fishing work?
To start fishing, simply walk up to any body of water and cast your line by pressing the special button in the profession window. When the bobber starts to wiggle, click on it and you will receive your catch.
You can move this button to your action bar for convenience.
After the bobber moves, you will have a couple of seconds to reel in the fish. If you do it too early or too late, you won't get anything.
How to level up Fishing?
Fishing is leveled up while you are fishing. Each successful catch increases your profession skill by +1 with no restrictions. You can catch the simplest fish in the nearest body of water and level the profession up to its maximum.
The higher your profession level, the rarer the fish you can catch while fishing.
Where to catch fish?
You can fish in any nearby body of water, but you will only catch common fish regardless of your profession level.
There are several different zones in the game where you can catch special fish. These zones appear in bodies of water in specific locations. Depending on the zone, it may appear in waters of a single location or across several.
You can always spot a fishing zone on your minimap.

In order for pools to appear on your minimap, you'll need to purchase the
Fisherman's Guide. It is sold by any NPC who trades fishing supplies. The right move is to buy the guide at the same time as learning the profession, because right next to the NPC who teaches you the profession stands an NPC named Oliria, who can sell you both your first fishing pole and the guide you need.
Where and what fish can you catch?
While fishing, you will come across special zones whose catch differs from ordinary waters. You'll notice them right away, as they stand out clearly against the water. It's a large circular area with various fish swimming in it. These zones are also labeled on the minimap, so you definitely won't miss them.

What zones and fish exist?
We recommend moving on to new locations as your profession level grows.
| Location | Minimum Level | Recommended Level |
|---|---|---|
| Eversong | 1 | 1 |
| Zul'Aman | 75 | 100 |
| Harandar | 100 | 225 |
| Voidstorm | 225 | 300 |
Stats and gear
Unlike other professions, Fishing has only one stat — Perception. This stat increases your chances of catching rare fish or items while fishing, so the higher this stat, the more productive your fishing will be. You can raise it with special items and potions.
Fishing Poles
For effective fishing, you'll need fishing poles, which you can obtain either through the auction house or through the crafting orders table. Three poles are available to you:
Enhancements
Anglers can enchant their fishing pole with the special enchantment
Greater Line of the Midnight Angler, which grants the pole a unique property. While fishing, all treasures you catch will be doubled.
