Goldplate Bufonid

Goldplate Bufonid is a ground frog mount in gilded armor, added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion with patch 9.2 "Eternity's End." The mount belongs to the bufonid family (the sentient frog-like creatures of Zereth Mortis) and is created through the protoform synthesis system — a unique crafting method available only in the expansion's final zone. The item description reads: "This armored bufonid is always ready to leap into battle... as long as the battle is very, very close."

To obtain the mount you need to unlock the protoform synthesis forge, acquire the rare Schematic: Goldplate Bufonid, and gather three components: 400 Genesis Motes, one Bauble of Pure Innovation, and one Bufonid Lattice. Despite the age of the content, the mount remains fully obtainable in Midnight and can be farmed by a single character.

• Unique model — a frog in gilded armor with a pronounced leaping animation. There are only four varieties of bufonid in the game, and the golden one is the most "ceremonial" of them all
• Collection rarity — the mount's schematic has a low drop chance, so the Goldplate Bufonid is found among a small percentage of players
• Account-wide access — once created, the mount unlocks on all characters regardless of faction and class
• Solo farm at level 90 — all enemies and tasks in Zereth Mortis in Midnight can be completed by a single character without difficulty
• Crafting, not boss RNG — once all ingredients are gathered, the mount is created guaranteed, without dependence on weekly loot lottery

The full path to the mount consists of three stages: unlocking the protoform synthesis system, obtaining the schematic, and gathering the reagents.

1. Unlock Zereth Mortis by completing the patch 9.2 intro campaign. If you have not played Shadowlands before, the quest chain begins in Oribos at Firstborn Tahli
2. Research the "Understanding Sopranian" technology at the Cypher Console of the Eternal Ones in Haven. It requires 220 cyphers and around 5 days 18 hours of research. Before this you must unlock the "Understanding Dialect" branch
3. Complete the quest chain that begins with "Searching for Tahli" at Elder Amir. The final quests unlock access to the Vault of Protoform Synthesis
4. Obtain the Schematic: Goldplate Bufonid from the Accelerated Bufonid in Zereth Mortis. The drop chance is low, so plan for a lengthy farm
5. Gather 400 Genesis Motes — they drop from practically all creatures and elementals of the zone
6. Acquire the Bauble of Pure Innovation in Haven at coordinates 34.5 49.7 (Pocopoc's bed) and from the Bauble of Pure Innovation caches
7. Obtain the Bufonid Lattice from the frog-like creatures of Zereth Mortis, primarily from the same accelerated bufonids
8. Return to the Vault of Protoform Synthesis in Haven and create the Goldplate Bufonid

After obtaining the schematic you will need to gather three components. The recipe is fixed; the quantity of materials does not change.

The protoform synthesis forge is not available from the start of the patch — you need to complete several preparatory stages before mount crafting becomes possible.

1. Complete the patch 9.2 intro storyline and unlock Zereth Mortis. Your character will automatically gain access to Haven — the zone's main hub
2. Open the Cypher Console of the First Ones at the Pocopoc. Begin researching the cypher branches, gathering cyphers from chests, quests, and offerings
3. First research "Understanding Dialect" (200 cyphers, about 3 days 18 hours). This opens access to the deeper branches of the tree
4. Then research "Understanding Sopranian" (220 cyphers, about 5 days 18 hours) — this is what enables mount crafting at the Vault of Protoform Synthesis
5. Complete the "Searching for Tahli" quest chain, starting with Elder Amir
6. After completing the chain you gain access to the Vault of Protoform Synthesis and can use mount schematics

The Schematic: Goldplate Bufonid drops from only one source — the Accelerated Bufonid. This is a regular level 60 mob of the leaper family (not a rare), inhabiting the island with the Sepulcher of the First Ones.

• Near the entrance to the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid in the northwest of the zone
• Main farming spot: 49.77 73.08
• Additional coordinates: 79.43 45.46, 80.03 56.47, 51.07 74.73
• Other mobs of the same type appear along the Dimensional Cascades

Farming Tactics

• Move in a circle between the spawn points — accelerated bufonids respawn quickly
• Gather Bufonid Lattices and Genesis Motes in parallel — these same mobs give both reagents
• The schematic's drop chance is low (estimated at 1–2%), so settle in for several sessions of 30–60 minutes
• If you farm on a master account — the schematic is not bound to the character, you can transfer it to the needed hero through the shared bank

The bulk of the work is gathering 400 Genesis Motes. This is a simple task, but it takes time.

Best Farming Spots

• Tree of Life at the Pocopoc — dense mob spawn, a convenient short loop
• Dimensional Rifts — elementals give a guaranteed mote
• Zereth Mortis daily quests — often reward stacks of motes
• World quests — up to 30–50 motes per single turn-in
• Devourer invasions — give extra motes and rare resources

Tips for Speeding Up

• Use a specialization with AoE damage — most mobs are fragile and gather in groups
• Loot all the chests of Zereth Mortis — the achievement Treasures of Zereth Mortis unlocks minor rewards along the way

Bauble of Pure Innovation

The Bauble of Pure Innovation is one of the key reagents for protoform synthesis mounts.

• One guaranteed bauble is located in Haven on Pocopoc's bed at coordinates 34.5 49.7
• Additional baubles drop from the Bauble of Pure Innovation caches scattered across the zone
• The caches have a long respawn timer — check them during your regular runs

Bufonid Lattice

The Bufonid Lattice is a consumable for several bufonid mounts, including the Prototype Leaper, Patient Bufonid, Russet Bufonid, and the Golden one.

• Drops from most frog-like creatures of Zereth Mortis
• The main source is the same Accelerated Bufonids as the schematic
• Average drop chance is around 20–30%
• While farming the schematic you will manage to gather several lattices in reserve
