Overview

Grand Armored Wyvern

Game iconGrand Armored Wyvern is an epic ground and flying mount of the Horde faction, added in patch 5.1 "Landfall" of the Mists of Pandaria expansion. It is a ferocious beast in heavy armor, one of the first mounts selected for service with the Dominance Offensive. The mount is purchased from Grukna Fang-Slasher at Domination Point, Krasarang Wilds, for 2,000 gold at Exalted reputation.

The wyvern model features massive weathered wings, pointed armor across its entire body, and majestic horns. One of the horns appears broken in battle and repaired with a metal plate. The mount is available to all characters on the account — on Alliance characters the Game iconGrand Armored Gryphon is displayed instead.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor for a fixed price. Once you reach the required reputation and 2,000 gold, the mount is yours
  • Low cost — 2,000 gold at the current stage of the game is a symbolic sum; the main task is grinding reputation
  • Unique model — the armored wyvern is visually distinct from ordinary wyverns. The detailed armor and battle damage make the mount memorable
  • Ground and flying — the mount adapts to the zone: it works both on the ground and in the air. Speed depends on your riding skill
  • Two mounts for the price of one — buying it on a Horde character automatically adds the Grand Armored Gryphon to all your Alliance characters

How to Obtain

To purchase the mount you must reach Exalted reputation with the Dominance Offensive faction and have 2,000 gold.

  1. Make sure your character belongs to the Horde — the mount is only available to the Horde
  2. Get to Pandaria and unlock access to the Krasarang Wilds
  3. Begin completing the Dominance Offensive daily quests at Domination Point
  4. Grind your reputation up to Exalted (42,000 points total)
  5. Find Grukna Fang-Slasher at Domination Point, Krasarang Wilds
  6. Buy the Game iconGrand Armored Wyvern for 2,000 gold and use the item to learn the mount

Where to Find the Vendor

Grukna Fang-Slasher is the Dominance Offensive quartermaster. This is an orc NPC located at Domination Point on the western coast of the Krasarang Wilds.

How to Get There

  1. If it's your first time in Pandaria, use the portal from Orgrimmar to the Jade Forest
  2. From the Jade Forest, head southwest into the Krasarang Wilds
  3. Domination Point is located on the western shore of the zone — it is a Horde military base
  4. Grukna Fang-Slasher stands inside the base, near the other vendors

In addition to the mount, Grukna Fang-Slasher sells rings, trinkets, boots, and belts of various reputation levels priced from 280 to 420 gold.

Grinding Reputation with the Dominance Offensive

The Dominance Offensive is a Horde faction introduced in patch 5.1. The Alliance counterpart is Operation: Shieldwall. To reach Exalted you must earn 42,000 reputation points.

Daily Quests (the main source)

Each day you receive a breadcrumb quest that directs you to one of four rotating hubs across the Krasarang Wilds. Each hub offers about five quests, which gives roughly 1,000 reputation points per day.

Main daily quest locations:

  • Ruins of Ogudei
  • Lion's Landing (attack on the Alliance base)
  • Domination Point (defensive quests)
  • Boiling Cauldron Beach

Story Campaign

As you reach certain reputation levels (Friendly, Honored, Revered, Exalted), additional story quests unlock. They grant significant one-time reputation bonuses and advance the story of Garrosh's campaign in Pandaria.

Completing the full campaign upon reaching Exalted rewards a separate mount — the Game iconGrand Wyvern, which differs from the armored version.

Grand Commendation of the Dominance Offensive

Upon reaching Revered, you can buy the Game iconGrand Commendation of the Dominance Offensive from Grukna Fang-Slasher. This item increases reputation gained with the faction by 100% for all characters on your account. If you have several Horde characters, first grind reputation to Revered and buy the commendation.

How Long It Will Take

If you complete all daily quests every day (about 1,000 points per day), grinding from Neutral to Exalted takes about 4–5 weeks. Using the Grand Commendation of the Dominance Offensive and additional reputation sources shortens this time.

Speeding Up Reputation Grinding

Timewalking Event: Mists of Pandaria

During the Mists of Pandaria Timewalking bonus event, you can buy Grand Commendations of the Dominance Offensive for Timewarped Badges. This significantly speeds up the grind.

Darkmoon Faire

Ride the carousel at the Darkmoon Faire to get the "WHEE!" buff (+10% reputation gained for 60 minutes). Then go complete daily quests.

Banner of Cooperation

The guild banner grants an additional +10% reputation. It stacks with the Faire buff.

World Quest Bonus Event

During the World Quest bonus event week, reputation gained from quests is increased by 50%.

Tips

1

Don't confuse the two wyverns — the Dominance Offensive rewards two different mounts. The inv_misc_elitewyvernarmoredGrand Armored Wyvern is bought from the vendor for 2,000 gold at Exalted, while the inv_misc_elitewyvernGrand Wyvern is given as a reward for completing the story campaign. Don't forget to get both

2

Start with the story — before switching to daily quests, complete all available campaign story quests. They give more reputation for the time spent

3

Buy the Grand Commendation of the Dominance Offensive at the first opportunity — doubling reputation gained after Revered significantly cuts overall grinding time

4

Combine with the Darkmoon Faire — if the Faire is active, grab the "WHEE!" buff before completing daily quests. The extra 10% adds up over the grind

5

The mount is account-bound — grind reputation on whichever Horde character is most convenient for completing quests in the Krasarang Wilds. After purchase the mount becomes available to all characters

6

Timewalking — keep an eye on the event calendar. During the Mists of Pandaria Timewalking event you can buy additional commendations and significantly speed up the grind

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
