Grandmaster's Prophetic Board

Grandmaster's Prophetic Board is an epic flying mount added in patch 11.1.7 of The War Within expansion. It is a magical chessboard in a black-and-red color scheme that hovers in the air, referencing the legendary chess event in Karazhan. According to the item's description, Medivh created this flying board so the chess event could travel along with him.

The mount was a free reward for filling the Traveler's Log progress bar in the Trading Post for August 2025. That month's Trading Post was entirely dedicated to a chess theme and included many themed transmog items, weapons, and mounts.

• Unique model — your character stands on a hovering chessboard with pieces, which looks unusual and draws attention. It is one of the few platform mounts in the game
• Karazhan reference — the mount is directly tied to the iconic chess event from the Karazhan raid, one of the most memorable bosses in World of Warcraft history
• Ground and flying — the Grandmaster's Prophetic Board works both on the ground and in the air. Speed depends on your riding skill: up to +100% on the ground and up to +310% in flight
• Free to obtain — the mount did not require spending Trader's Tender. You only had to fill the Traveler's Log progress bar for August 2025
• Account-wide — once obtained, the mount is bound to your account and becomes available on all your characters

The Grandmaster's Prophetic Board is the August 2025 Trading Post Traveler's Log reward. To obtain the mount, you had to fill the progress bar by completing monthly tasks.

1. Open the Adventure Guide (Shift+J) and go to the "Trading Post" tab
2. At the top of the interface is the Traveler's Log progress bar. Fill it by completing the listed tasks
3. Tasks refresh every month and include various activities: clearing dungeons, winning battlegrounds, completing world quests, and more
4. Once the bar is fully filled, you automatically receive the month's bonus reward — the Grandmaster's Prophetic Board
5. Use the obtained item to learn the mount

Current Availability

August 2025 has ended, and the Grandmaster's Prophetic Board is temporarily unavailable. Trading Post rewards periodically return to the lineup, so the mount may appear again in a future month. The exact return date is not yet known. Keep an eye on the Trading Post updates each month.

The Trading Post is a monthly reward system added in patch 10.0.5 of the Dragonflight expansion. Each month, new cosmetic items, mounts, and toys appear in the lineup.

Traveler's Log

The Traveler's Log is a system of monthly tasks within the Trading Post. By completing tasks, you fill the progress bar. When the bar is fully filled, you receive:

• The month's bonus reward — a unique item (in August 2025 this was the Grandmaster's Prophetic Board)
• 500 Trader's Tender — the currency for buying other items in the Trading Post

Where to Find the Trading Post

The Trading Post is located in the faction capitals:

• Alliance — visit the Trading Post building in Stormwind, by the Mage Quarter next to the Stockade
• Horde — visit the Trading Post building in Orgrimmar, next to the bank

You can also browse the lineup through the Adventure Guide (Shift+J) without physically visiting the building.

In August 2025, in addition to the Grandmaster's Prophetic Board, other mounts were available in the Trading Post:

Both mounts use the same model but differ in color scheme. The Prophetic Board is rendered in dark tones — black and red — while the Royal Board has a light, gold-and-white coloring.

The mount's design is inspired by the iconic chess event from the Karazhan raid. It is an unusual puzzle fight in which players control chess pieces on a huge board, battling against Medivh's pieces.

The event was first added in The Burning Crusade expansion and remains one of the most unusual encounters in World of Warcraft history. The mount's description reads: "The chess event could not be contained. So Medivh fashioned this conveyance to bring it along on his travels."
