Gray Ram is one of the three classic racial ground mounts of the Ironforge dwarves, added back in the original World of Warcraft. It is a stocky mountain ram with gray fur and massive twisted horns, bred at the Amberstill Ranch in the eastern part of Dun Morogh. The mount is popular among collectors thanks to its low price, fast acquisition and distinctive dwarven style.
The item is sold for 1 gold by Veron Amberstill at the Amberstill Ranch in the eastern part of Dun Morogh. Dwarves buy it without any conditions upon reaching level 10, while the other Alliance races can only do so after they raise their reputation with Ironforge to Exalted. For the Horde the restriction applies fully: this mount is only available to players of the Alliance faction.
The vendor is Veron Amberstill, the ram breeder at the Amberstill Ranch. The ranch is located in the east of Dun Morogh, along the road between Kharanos and the Stonewrought Pass, near the outer gates of Ironforge.
If you play a human, gnome, night elf, draenei, worgen, void elf or any other Alliance race, to buy the mount you need Exalted with Ironforge. There are several reliable ways to raise this reputation.
The fastest modern method. Complete daily quests for Ironforge at the Argent Tournament in Icecrown. After earning the Ironforge Champion achievement, you unlock access to Derrick Brindlebeard, the Ironforge quartermaster, who also grants reputation in exchange for trophies.
Equip the
Ironforge Tabard, bought from Captain Stonehelm in the Great Forge of Ironforge, and run old low-level dungeons. All the reputation you gain from kills in these dungeons counts toward Ironforge.
During the annual Brewfest in September–October, Alliance players can complete beer deliveries to their capitals. These quests reliably grant Ironforge reputation, letting you quickly close out the missing standing levels with the capital.
While leveling in Dun Morogh, the Arathi Highlands, Loch Modan, the Hinterlands and Darkshore, many quests grant Ironforge reputation. For characters starting in these regions, the required level is usually reached naturally.
While you're at the ranch, it makes sense to grab the entire lineup of rams at once. They all count toward the mount collection as separate entries.

Note: the "swift" versions differ from the normal ones only in name and identifier. Their model, animations and movement speed are identical — on the modern patch all ground mounts receive the same speed bonus depending on your riding skill, not on the mount itself.
