Get Great Gray Kodo mount
Overview

Great Gray Kodo is one of the three epic racial Tauren mounts, available since classic World of Warcraft. It is a massive ash-gray beast with a powerful bony snout, embodying the spirit of Mulgore and the herd tradition of Thunder Bluff. The item description reads: "The leader of the pack, this is a true specimen of the mighty creatures that thunder across the Barrens."
The mount is sold by the NPC Harb Clawhoof in Bloodhoof Village — a small Tauren village in Mulgore. Any Tauren can buy it without additional conditions, while the other Horde races gain access only after reaching Exalted status with the Thunder Bluff faction.
Why You Want This Mount
- Maximum ground speed — the Great Gray Kodo is an epic racial mount and grants a +100% movement speed bonus, meaning it travels at the maximum possible speed for ground transport
- Classic model — this is the original kodo from World of Warcraft, added back in 2005 in patch 1.4. Visually it stands apart from most expansion mounts and looks great on characters of any class
- Account-wide — once purchased, the mount unlocks for all Horde characters on your account
- Tauren symbol — the Great Gray Kodo is part of the Tauren racial identity. Even if you have had a flying mount for ages, the massive kodo remains a great choice for roleplay and themed outings
- Budget price — just 10 gold once you have access to the vendor, making it one of the cheapest epic beasts in the game
- One of six racial kodos — alongside it, Harb Clawhoof also sells five other colors, so you can complete the entire Tauren racial kodo collection in one trip
How to Get the Mount on a Tauren
Tauren need no reputation at all — the mount is available the moment you learn the riding skill. The steps:
- On a Tauren character, reach level 10 and learn the riding skill from any trainer. The easiest place to do this is Thunder Bluff at one of the riding trainers
- Head to Mulgore — the Tauren starting zone. From Thunder Bluff you can take the elevator down or use a flight master
- Travel to Bloodhoof Village — a small village in the center of Mulgore
- Find Harb Clawhoof on the southern edge of the village. Coordinates:
- Open the trade window and buy the
Great Gray Kodo for 10 gold - Use the item from your bag — the mount will automatically be added to the collection of all Horde characters on your account
How to Get the Mount on a Non-Tauren Character
The other Horde races — orcs, undead, trolls, blood elves, goblins, Horde pandaren, and the allied races — must first raise their reputation with the Thunder Bluff faction to Exalted status. Without it, Harb simply will not trade with you.
The Fast Way — Tabard and Dungeons
The most convenient way to earn reputation is to wear the themed tabard and run dungeons of the appropriate level.
- Head to Thunder Bluff and buy the
Thunder Bluff Tabard from Bravonn Tooko. It costs a few gold - Put on the tabard and queue for any random dungeon at your level. All damage you deal to mobs and bosses will be converted into Thunder Bluff reputation
- The optimal choices are classic dungeons, where there are many mobs that die quickly
- Keep going until you reach Exalted status. This usually takes 10–20 runs depending on your level and the dungeon
Mulgore and Thunder Bluff Quests
An alternative method is to complete the Tauren starting quests in Mulgore and the Thunder Bluff story line. Fully clearing these zones grants a significant reputation boost and combines well with dungeon runs. If you have recently created an allied race character or leveled a new alt, quests are the most natural way to gather those first reputation levels.
Purchasing After Exalted
- Check your reputation status in the character reputation window. The "Thunder Bluff" bar should be filled to Exalted
- Head to Bloodhoof Village and find Harb Clawhoof
- Open the trade window and buy the
Great Gray Kodo and, if you wish, the other five kodo colors in a single visit
Tips
Buy the mount on a Tauren alt if you have one — even a temporary level 10 Tauren can buy the
Great Gray Kodo without any reputation. After the purchase, the item goes to the account-wide collection, and the mount will appear on your other Horde characters automatically
Combine reputation farming with transmog — while you run dungeons for Thunder Bluff, you will also complete classic transmog sets and dungeon achievements. This saves time
Don't confuse it with the regular gray kodo — the
Gray Kodo costs 1 gold and grants only +60% speed. The epic version is specifically the
Great Gray Kodo for 10 gold
Grab the whole collection at once — since you have made it to Bloodhoof Village and unlocked the vendor, it makes sense to buy all six racial kodos in one visit. The total cost is 33 gold
Check your reputation in advance — if your status is still Honored or Revered, Harb will refuse to sell the mount. Open the reputation tab before leaving Thunder Bluff so you don't make an extra trip
