Get Great White Kodo mount
Overview

Great White Kodo is an epic ground mount for the Horde, sold by the same vendor as the basic tauren kodos but belonging to the "epic" line: the model is larger, the coloring is richer, and the movement speed is twice that of the standard versions. The item's flavor text describes it as a rare albino, first spotted in the Barrens — according to centaur lore, the white kodo is a harbinger of doom.
The mount is part of the trio of "great" kodos along with the
Great Gray Kodo and the
Great Brown Kodo. All three are sold in Mulgore, in Bloodhoof Village, and differ only in coloring. In the current expansion the line remains relevant: it completes the tauren racial mount collection — three basic and three epic.
After the riding requirements were updated in patch 9.0.1, the entry threshold for all "great" kodos dropped significantly: now
Apprentice Riding and character level 10 are enough, and the mount still grants a 100% movement speed bonus.
Why You Want This Mount
- Epic speed with minimal requirements — unlike basic kodos with their 60% bonus, the
Great White Kodo grants a full 100% movement speed bonus. And after the 9.0.1 changes, it can be used with the basic riding skill at level 10 - The rarest coloring among kodos — the white albino stands out against the gray and brown models that make up the majority of kodo mounts in the game. Visually, the mount pairs well with light transmog sets and "holy" tauren themes
- One of the most accessible epic models in the game — 10 gold for a mount with 100% speed is a symbolic price even for an alt that has just reached level 10
- One of the six racial kodos — alongside it, you can buy five other colorings from Harb Clawhoof and complete the entire tauren racial kodo collection in a single trip
- Contribution to mount achievements — every new mount in your collection counts toward achievement trackers
- Account-wide unlock — after purchase, the mount becomes available to all Horde characters, not just the one who made the purchase
General Requirements
- Faction: Horde only. The Alliance cannot buy the mount under any circumstances or through any intermediary
- Character level: minimum 10. This is also the threshold for learning the first tier of riding
- Riding skill:
Apprentice Riding. Before patch 9.0.1,
Journeyman Riding and level 40 were required — now the basic skill is enough - 10 gold in your bag. With the exalted discount — 8 gold
Requirements for Non-Taurens
If you play an orc, troll, undead, blood elf, goblin, Horde pandaren, or any allied race, then beyond the general conditions you need Exalted reputation with Thunder Bluff. Without this reputation, the vendor will not show the "great" kodos in his stock, although the basic versions remain available to all Horde races regardless of reputation.
- Taurens and Highmountain Taurens buy the mount right away and at a discount thanks to the racial bonus
- Everyone else first needs to raise their reputation with Thunder Bluff to "Exalted"
Where to Find the Vendor
The kodo vendor Harb Clawhoof stands in Bloodhoof Village in the central part of Mulgore, at the western edge of the settlement. Several kodo models of various colors graze in front of him — the landmark is hard to miss even on a first visit.
At max level, the most convenient way to get here is through the portals from Orgrimmar.
Step-by-Step Guide to Buying the Mount
- Prepare your character. Make sure you have at least 10 gold on hand and that your character has reached level 10
- Learn riding. Approach any Horde riding trainer (the easiest is in Orgrimmar) and learn
Apprentice Riding - For non-taurens — earn Exalted. Raise your reputation with Thunder Bluff to "Exalted." Farming methods are in the next section
- Open the trade dialog with Harb Clawhoof. In the list of goods, find the
Great White Kodo and purchase it - Use the item. Right-click it in your bag — the mount will be learned and automatically added to your mount collection journal (
Shift+P) - Summon the mount using a hotkey or the icon on your action bar
How to Get Exalted with Thunder Bluff
If you do not play a tauren, you will have to earn reputation with Thunder Bluff from scratch. The fastest method is a combination of a tabard and runs through old dungeons.
The Fast Way — Tabard and Dungeons
The most convenient way to earn reputation is to wear a themed tabard and clear dungeons of the appropriate level.
- Head to Thunder Bluff and buy the
Thunder Bluff Tabard from Tat877Voh Tukho. The cost is a few gold - Put on the tabard and head into any random-mode dungeon at your level. All damage dealt to mobs and bosses will be converted into reputation with Thunder Bluff
- The optimal options are classic dungeons, where there are many mobs and they die quickly
- Continue until you reach "Exalted" status. This usually takes 10–20 runs depending on level and dungeon
Mulgore and Thunder Bluff Quests
An alternative method is to complete the tauren starting quests in Mulgore and the Thunder Bluff story line. Fully completing these zones gives a significant reputation boost and combines well with dungeon runs. If you recently created an allied race character or leveled a new alt, quests are the most natural way to gain your first reputation levels.
Turning In Cloth
Another working method is turning in stacks of cloth to Thunder Bluff emissaries in the capital. Stacks of wool, silk, mageweave, and runecloth give 350–500 reputation each. In terms of speed it is no match for the tabard, but it is convenient if the cloth is already sitting in your bank with nowhere to go.
Tips
Don't spend on a separate riding skill just for the epic kodos — after patch 9.0.1, the "great" kodos do not require
Journeyman Riding. The basic "apprentice" skill is enough for 100% speed. Don't be fooled by outdated guides that list level 40 and the old skill rank
Farm reputation first, then buy — the vendor shows the "great" kodos only at Exalted, and if you come in at Revered or Honored you will simply waste time on the trip
Buy the trio at once — the logistics of the trip to Mulgore are the same, and the 20-gold difference between one and three mounts is unnoticeable at max level
Set your hearthstone at Thunder Bluff if you are actively collecting Horde racial mounts. From there it is equally convenient to reach both the tauren vendor and the reputation emissaries
The Thunder Bluff Tabard is a universal tool for new collectors. You simultaneously gain reputation, collect transmog from old bosses, and earn gold from dungeons, and once you reach Exalted you return to Mulgore for all six kodos at once
The mount is saved account-wide — as soon as one character obtains the
Great White Kodo, it will appear in the collection journal of all your Horde characters, regardless of class and race
