Gutgore Ripper is an epic one-handed dagger from the very first raid dungeon in World of Warcraft. It is a short blade with a dark, curved edge and a sinister bone-shaped silhouette to its hilt, all kept in a black-and-crimson palette. The model evokes the grim aesthetic of the original game's earliest raids and is instantly recognizable among veterans.
What sets it apart is its "chance on hit" ability: every so often a strike triggers
Gutgore Ripper — a Shadow Bolt that deals shadow damage and lowers all of the target's stats for 30 seconds. The matching effect makes the dagger interesting beyond its looks alone.
For transmogrification it suits every class that can wield daggers: rogues, druids, mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, demon hunters, and warriors. It looks especially fitting in dark, demonic, and "cultist" outfits.
The Gutgore Ripper drops from Garr — an elite fire elemental and the fourth boss of the Molten Core raid. The drop chance sits at roughly 17%, which is very generous for a raid weapon: across a few weekly clears the dagger is almost guaranteed to be yours.
Garr is located inside the Molten Core at the coordinates /way 31.5 68.9. The raid itself lies deep within Blackrock Mountain, at the junction of the Burning Steppes.
How to get there:
The raid is outdated, so it can be soloed by a current-level character with ease. Garr and his Firesworn add-ons fall in a few hits. The limit is one boss kill per week per character: the raid lockout resets every Tuesday, and you can check the timer with the /raidinfo command.
On a single Molten Core run you kill Garr once — that is one attempt per week per character. Set up several characters if you want to speed up the farm.
The same Garr also drops the
Aurastone Hammer — a one-handed mace for weapon collectors. Check out its appearance while you are at it.
The fastest classes for soloing the raid are those with a permanent mount and strong self-healing: the path from the entrance to Garr is minimal.
Before going in, make sure you are not locked to the raid: the /raidinfo command shows the timer until the Tuesday reset.
The appearance unlocks into your transmog collection the moment you receive the dagger — you do not have to wield it for that.
If you already have the base color, finish off both recolors from Onyxia: her Lair can also be soloed in a minute, and its lockout is separate from the Molten Core.
The dagger is bound on pickup, so you cannot pass it to another character or sell it at the auction house — farm it on whoever actually needs it.
