Get Harbinger of Death

Harbinger of Death is an epic one-handed dagger that returned to the game alongside the Naxxramas ancient recipe system in patch 10.1.5 of Dragonflight. It is a short blade with a cold gray-steel palette and an angular silhouette in the spirit of old Lordaeron undead weapons — the model directly echoes the arms from classic Naxxramas and Stratholme.

The dagger is crafted: it cannot be looted from a boss. The finished item binds when picked up and is low item level, so its value is purely for collectors — a transmog appearance. The silhouette is compact and dark, with no glow or animations, which makes the dagger a versatile piece for grim looks.

Harbinger of Death is created with the Blacksmithing profession from the plan Ancient Plans: Harbinger of Death. The plan and the dagger itself are part of the "lost recipes of Azeroth" set that was brought back in patch 10.1.5: dozens of long-unavailable classic WoW items can once again be assembled through the secrets of Naxxramas.

How to obtain the plan

• The plan does not drop directly but comes from the item Slime-Covered Scroll — it reveals a random ancient Naxxramas recipe.
• The scroll is sold by a goblin merchant inside Naxxramas for the "death trade tokens" currency.
• Death trade tokens are granted in exchange for plague-bringer stones: one warping-type plague-bringer stone equals one token, or ten raider plague-bringer stones for one token. The stones drop from the bosses of Naxxramas, Stratholme, and Scholomance.

What to unlock in advance

• Access to the secrets of Naxxramas is granted by the achievement Wards of the Dread Citadel. It requires you to empower the Argent commission — a separate chain with rituals in the old version of Scholomance and a run through Stratholme.
• Only after earning the achievement can you wake the merchant inside Naxxramas, complete his task, and unlock the sale of scrolls.

Assembling the dagger

• The plan is learned as a classic Blacksmithing recipe (skill 300).
• The scroll and the plan itself are not bound to the character — they can be traded or bought through the auction house if your own profession is not leveled.
• Crafting requires classic reagents: a tattered scrap, a massive grinding stone, an arcanite bar, a flawless black diamond, and undead substance. These are materials from old expansions — it is easier to buy them on the auction house than to farm them by hand.

• It fits grim undead and Scourge-themed looks — the gray-steel palette echoes Death Knight armor and Lordaeron sets.
• It harmonizes with dark leather and mail armor in cold tones — for example, the rogue sets from classic Eastern Kingdoms dungeons.
• It contrasts strikingly with bright "holy" sets — a debatable but expressive choice for a "fallen paladin" or dark priest look.
• The compact silhouette without a glow is handy when you want the weapon not to draw attention away from the armor or cloak.
• A paired set of two identical daggers looks cohesive on specializations that use two blades.
