Iron Skyreaver

Iron Skyreaver is an epic flying mount that takes the form of an armored rylak clad in black steel with two jet thrusters on its sides. The creature has two heads, steel jaws, and a distinctive jet-turbine sound while flying — when actively moving, flames burst from the thrusters.

The in-game collection description of the mount reads: "The beastmasters of the Iron Horde raised this rylak for war, then clad it for battle in black steel and smoldering flame." Visually, the mount matches the Iron Horde aesthetic from the Warlords of Draenor expansion, although it was technically added back in patch 5.4.2 of the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

The mount was sold in the in-game Battle.net Shop from January 16, 2014, and remained for a long time one of the most recognizable "paid" mounts in WoW. Its price was 25 US dollars (or 25 euros).

• Unique model — a two-headed armored rylak with jet thrusters and a distinctive turbine sound during flight. Few mounts in the game have a similar "techno-beast" aesthetic
• Full-fledged flying mount — it adapts to your riding skill and zone: in ground locations it is used as a steed, in flying ones as full flight
• Skill support from level 10 — to learn the mount you only need a level 10 character with basic riding skill
• Account-bound — once obtained, the mount becomes available to all existing and future characters on your Battle.net account
• Limited availability — after being removed from sale in October 2023, the mount became relatively rare, which increases its collector's value

This mount cannot be looted from enemies or obtained with in-game currency — it has always been exclusively a shop item. The current ways to obtain it depend on the current period.

Availability history

Method 1 — Battle.net Shop (main, historical)

For a long time, purchase in the Battle.net Shop was the only reliable way to get the mount. The purchase process was as follows:

1. Log in to your Battle.net account with an active World of Warcraft subscription
2. Open the in-game shop section in the Battle.net client or directly in the game (the "Shop" button on the micro-menu bar)
3. Find the "Iron Skyreaver" entry in the mounts category
4. Complete the purchase for 25 USD / 25 EUR
5. The mount will automatically be added to the collection on all characters of the account

Important: as of October 31, 2023, Blizzard removed the Iron Skyreaver from the permanent shop lineup. Direct purchase in the Battle.net Shop is currently unavailable. The mount may periodically return as part of temporary promotions or sales — keep an eye on official news at worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.

Method 2 — Razer × World of Warcraft promotion

In December 2024, for the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft, Razer launched a joint promotional campaign. When purchasing one of the qualifying Razer products, the buyer received a code for a set of in-game items, among which was the Iron Skyreaver.

The codes activated from December 17, 2024, and had to be used no later than April 30, 2025. As of the guide's publication, this promotion has already ended.

Method 3 — Secondary market

Since direct purchase in the shop is unavailable, some players acquire the mount through third-party marketplaces, resale of accounts with the mount already added, or trading. Please note: purchasing digital goods outside Blizzard's official channels violates the user agreement and can lead to a ban of your account. We do not recommend this method.

A note on dragonriding

The Iron Skyreaver uses the classic flight system. In modern versions of WoW, where most mounts are automatically converted to skyriding mode, the mount is available for movement across dynamic skies; however, the visual effects of the jet thrusters may not work correctly — Blizzard officially confirmed such a bug starting with patch 11.0.0.

1. Open the mount collection via the micro-menu (default key Shift+P)
2. Find the "Skyriding" section and the Iron Skyreaver within it
3. Drag the icon onto the action bar or right-click the mount to summon it
4. To automatically choose a suitable mount for the current zone, use the system's "Favorite" and mark the Iron Skyreaver as a favorite

If you have learned the random mount summon macro, the Iron Skyreaver will automatically be included in the pool of flying mounts when you are in a zone with flight support.

• Check the official shop. Even though the mount has been removed from the permanent lineup, Blizzard periodically brings back old shop mounts as part of sales, themed bundles, or anniversary events. Subscribe to official news so you don't miss its return
• Don't rush into gray schemes. Buying the mount through third-party sites, reselling accounts, or "rented boosting" violates Blizzard's user agreement and can lead to a ban of your account along with all progress and your collection
• Use it as a flying mount. The Iron Skyreaver is a full-fledged flying mount. If you have already learned the Master Riding skill, use it specifically in the sky: the animation of the jet thrusters and the distinctive turbine sound are best revealed in flight
• Check your collection. If you bought the mount between 2014 and 2023 or took part in the Razer promotion, the mount should already be in your collection. Open the "Collection → Mounts" tab and find it in the "Skyriding" section, or use the search by name
• Collector's value. After being removed from sale, the Iron Skyreaver became a relatively rare mount in the game. If you have it, that's a good reason to use it more often — many players on the servers will no longer be able to obtain it
• Remember the limitations. Like all shop mounts, the Iron Skyreaver cannot be used as a reward for an achievement, quest, or farming — it remains a purely cosmetic item added to the collection
