Reins of the Liberated Slyvern

Reins of the Liberated Slyvern is an epic flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.0.2). The mount is a slyvern — a winged, furred creature characteristic of the fauna of the Dragon Isles. Slyverns are informally called "foxbats" and are found in The Azure Span, where they live in the wild or in captivity among the gnolls.

The mount drops exclusively from the elite enemy Breezebiter, who roams the south-eastern part of The Azure Span. Despite feeling like a rare creature, Breezebiter is specifically an elite mob, not a traditional rare: he has no weekly loot lock, and you can kill him repeatedly on the same character until the mount drops.

The flavor text from the mount journal says that the slyvern "is actually glad it no longer belongs to the gnolls," despite its menacing appearance.

• Unique model — the slyvern is a rare hybrid of a wyvern and a fox, a model used by only a small number of mounts. The Liberated Slyvern's own coloring differs from other variants of this model
• A full flying mount — grants +150%, +280%, or +310% to flying speed depending on your riding skill, as well as +60% or +100% to ground speed
• No loot lock — Breezebiter can be killed as many times as he respawns. Each kill is an independent roll for the Reins of the Liberated Slyvern
• Available from level 10 — using the mount only requires level 10 and the corresponding riding skill. You can obtain the reins on any character with a leveled route to The Azure Span
• Account-bound once obtained — like other mounts from modern expansions, after a single successful drop it unlocks across your entire account collection

The main and only path to the mount is to kill Breezebiter and hope for the Reins of the Liberated Slyvern to drop from his loot.

1. Level a character to at least 60 and complete the starting quest To the Azure Span to unlock access to the zone
2. Master flying in The Azure Span — standard flying was unlocked with the release of patch 10.2.5, or use the dragonriding flight mechanic
3. Head to the south-eastern part of The Azure Span, to the location "Traitor's Rest," east of the tuskarr settlement of Iskaara
4. Look for Breezebiter — he flies above the cliffs and periodically lands on a stone ledge. The spawn coordinates are roughly /way 27.0 48.4 or 29.8 46.1
5. Kill Breezebiter. Any max-level character can solo this elite mob
6. Collect the loot — with a chance of roughly 1–3%, it will contain the Reins of the Liberated Slyvern
7. If the mount didn't drop, wait for the enemy to respawn (about 1–2 hours) and try again

Breezebiter is a large slyvern soaring above the cliffs of the south-eastern coast of The Azure Span. The mob does not respawn at one strict point — it patrols the sky along a predictable route, periodically landing on a rock.

1. Fly to Traitor's Rest — a rocky plateau east of the tuskarr settlement of Iskaara
2. Circle the peaks of the cliffs at the mob's spawn altitude. Breezebiter usually sits on a large rock, or circles above it
3. If the mob isn't there, wait at the location and check the sky — the respawn happens within an hour or two after the last kill
4. Use rare mob tracking addons, such as HandyNotes and SilverDragon, to get a notification when the enemy appears

Preparing for the Kill

• Character level — at level 80 (The War Within) the fight takes a few seconds. At lower levels, caution is required: the mob is elite and hits hard
• Don't form a raid — loot is only available to the first five members of the group. A raid group will remove the elite status and deny you your right to the spoils
• Bring potions and self-healing — especially if you're going for the mob solo and aren't sure of your damage test
• Update your profession gear — self-help stones and healing phials will speed up the repeated kills

Breezebiter is an elite enemy of level 68–70. His abilities pose no serious threat to a max-level character, but it's useful to know them.

• Gust of Wind — a cone attack that throws the player backward. Lead the mob away from the cliff edge so you don't fall off
• Claws — melee damage, easily healed
• Winged Whirlwind — a periodic AoE attack across an area. Step back a couple of paces if you're low on health

The fight lasts about 10–20 seconds at max level. When playing in a group, distribute roles: the tank holds aggro, the healer keeps everyone up, and the rest deal damage.

Multi-Farming on Alts

Since Breezebiter has no weekly loot lock, farming can be done on a single character indefinitely. Nonetheless, adding alts reduces the "downtime" between respawns: while you wait for the mob's next appearance, you can switch to another hero and fly over the point on them.

1. Level access to The Azure Span in advance on several characters
2. Set a hearthstone such as the "Dragon Isles Campaign Hearthstone" (Wanderer's Key) or any equivalent that points to the Dragon Isles
3. Check the spawn point each time you log in on a character. If the mob has appeared — kill it and open the loot

Addons and Tracking

• SilverDragon — alerts you to the appearance of rares and elite mobs in the zone
• HandyNotes Dragonflight — marks points of interest, including Breezebiter
• RareScanner — an alternative to SilverDragon with similar functionality

World Events and Cross-Realm

Breezebiter exists in the shared world without a dedicated shard. Shards are reassigned automatically by the game system, but you can try:

• Switching realms through a group — join a group via the "world quests" search in someone else's rift to end up in a different shard
• Entering the location during low-traffic periods — at night or during weekday daytime hours, competition for the mob is lower
