Overview

Tarecgosa's Visage

Game iconTarecgosa's Visage is an epic flying mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 10.1.0 "Embers of Neltharion" of the Dragonflight expansion (released May 2, 2023). The item lets your character take on the form of Tarecgosa, one of the blue dragons whose essence was once bound to a legendary staff.

The mount is the reward for the quest Rhapsody in Blue, which completes the blue dragon side branch of Kalecgos in the Vault of the Incarnates region on the island of Thaldraszus. The key requirement is that the character completing the chain must carry the legendary staff Game iconDragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest from the Firelands raid of the Cataclysm era.

Why You Want This Mount

  • A unique blue dragon model — the mount transforms your character into Tarecgosa herself, with azure scales and runic glow along the wings.
  • A full flying mount — it supports regular flight in all flight-enabled zones and does not require carrying the staff in your inventory
  • A memory of the legendary chain — the mount provides a narrative conclusion to Tarecgosa's story that began in Cataclysm. Kalecgos performs a farewell ritual, after which the dragon's soul stays with your character as an echo
  • A limited circle of owners — only a character who previously received the legendary staff can obtain the mount. This makes it one of the most prestigious collectible rewards of Dragonflight
  • Account-wide once obtained — after completing Rhapsody in Blue the item is added to the mount collection, however only characters who completed the chain are allowed to activate the visage form

How to Obtain

  1. Make sure one of your characters has the legendary staff Game iconDragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest. It is no longer obtainable — the staff was only awarded during the story quest on the bosses of the Firelands raid in Cataclysm
  2. On that same character, complete the main Thaldraszus storyline up to and including the quest Onward and Upward!. This requirement unlocks access to the side branches of the Vault of the Incarnates
  3. Fly to the Vault of the Incarnates on the islet north of Thaldraszus (coordinates 62, 19) and complete the introductory quest The Vault Keeper. Finish the entire blue lineage storyline of the Vault
  4. After completing the main branch, speak with Kalecgos. If you have the staff equipped, he will offer the additional quest Tarecgosa's Rest
  5. Take the paired quests Endless Love and Forget-Me-Not, and turn in both to Kalecgos
  6. Accept the final quest Rhapsody in Blue and perform the farewell ritual with Tarecgosa. The reward is the Game iconLingering Echo of Tarecgosa

Who Can Obtain the Mount

The legendary staff Game iconDragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest and, consequently, the mount can only be obtained by classes able to wield two-handed staves as a main weapon:

Class Can Obtain
Mage Yes
Priest Yes
Warlock Yes
Druid Yes
Shaman Yes
Evoker Yes (added with Dragonflight)
Warrior No
Paladin No
Hunter No
Rogue No
Death Knight No
Monk No
Demon Hunter No

If the staff is in the inventory of a class unable to wield it, the mount cannot be obtained — Kalecgos will not offer the additional quests.

Connection to the Legendary Staff

Game iconDragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest is a two-handed staff added in patch 4.2 of the Cataclysm expansion as the reward for the legendary chain of the Firelands raid. The chain started after killing the raid's main boss — Firelord Ragnaros — and required a lengthy hunt for fragments across several raids. In its final stage, the essence of the blue dragon Tarecgosa was sealed within the staff.

Using the staff granted its owner the spell Game iconTarecgosa's Visage, turning the character into a blue dragon for a short time. With Dragonflight, Blizzard turned that transformation into a full mount through the Game iconLingering Echo of Tarecgosa, freeing players from the need to keep the staff in hand.

Features and Limitations

  • Only one character can complete the chain — even if the staff is traded between account characters through the bank, the chain must be completed on the one holding the staff in inventory at the moment of turning in the quests
  • The mount does not transfer between factions — the account shares the mount collection between Alliance and Horde, so obtaining it once is enough
  • No repeat run — once the mount is obtained, the quest Rhapsody in Blue is considered completed on the account. It cannot be done again
  • The visage is limited to flight zones — the mount behaves like a regular flying one, so in no-fly zones (for example, old dungeons) it cannot be used as a ground mount
  • Animation and sound — the model uses blue dragon animations, including effects on takeoff and landing. The audio track is identical to the original spell Game iconTarecgosa's Visage

Tips

1

Prepare the staff in advance — if the staff is sitting in the bank, move it onto the character before starting the chain. Kalecgos checks the inventory during conversation

2

Don't skip the dialogues — the chain contains important story scenes about the fate of Tarecgosa and Malygos. Most players consider it one of the most touching in Dragonflight

3

Keep the staff — even after obtaining the mount, the staff remains a valuable item for transmogrification and account history. Do not destroy it

4

The mount is active on all characters — after obtaining it, the item appears in the account-wide mount collection, however only the character who completed Rhapsody in Blue will be able to use it. This is a documented Blizzard feature that may change in future patches
