Living Infernal Core
Overview

Living Infernal Core is an epic item that, when used, teaches you the
Felblaze Infernal mount. It is a ground and flying mount in the form of a green infernal, added in patch 7.1.5 of the Legion expansion. The mount drops from Gul'dan, the final boss of The Nighthold raid on Normal, Heroic, or Mythic difficulty.
According to the mount journal description: "The Illidari managed to subjugate one of these fiery monsters and turn it into an unstoppable, fearless mode of transport for the fight against the Legion."
The Felblaze Infernal has a unique green demonic infernal model with an animation of burning fel flames. The model is shared by several other infernal mounts (red, blue, dark), but the green variant is considered one of the most coveted and rare.
Why You Want This Mount
- Extremely rare — the drop chance is around 1%, making the Felblaze Infernal a genuine collector's trophy. Encountering another player on this mount is a real rarity
- Unique appearance — the green infernal with fel flame effects stands out among any mount in the game. Your character rides on the shoulders of a massive fiery demon
- Ground and flying — the mount works in every zone, adapting its animation to the type of movement
- Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection of every character on your account
- Legacy content — The Nighthold raid belongs to the Legion expansion, and at level 90 in Midnight a character clears it solo in a few minutes
How to Obtain
There are several ways to obtain the Living Infernal Core.
Method 1: Drop from Gul'dan (primary)
The item drops from the Gift of the Nightborne — a loot container that appears after killing Gul'dan in The Nighthold. The mount can drop on Normal, Heroic, or Mythic difficulty. In Raid Finder mode the mount does not drop.
- Drop chance: around 1%
- Restriction: once per week per character per difficulty
- Binding: binds on pickup
Method 2: Black Market
The Living Infernal Core occasionally appears on the Black Market. The starting price is usually from 20,000 gold, but the final cost can reach the gold cap (10,000,000 gold) due to high competition.
Method 3: "Remix: Legion" event (concluded)
During the limited-time "Remix: Legion" event the mount could be purchased from the vendor Hemet Nesingwary XVII for 100,000 Bronze. The event has already concluded and is currently unavailable.
How to Reach The Nighthold
The Nighthold is located in the city of Suramar on the Broken Isles. The raid entrance is in the Temple of Order building.
Quick Route
- Use your hearthstone to Dalaran (Broken Isles) or a portal from your faction's capital
- In Dalaran, use the flight master and fly to Meredil, Suramar
- From the flight point, head southeast toward the Terrace of Order
- Find the Temple of Order building — the raid entrance is on the first floor
Entrance Coordinates
Alternative Route
If you have the Legion flight master's whistle or a mount with a high flight speed, you can fly directly from Dalaran to the raid entrance coordinates. At level 90 the hostile enemies in Suramar pose no threat.
Step-by-Step Farming Guide
Preparation
- Make sure your character is level 90 — at this level Gul'dan in The Nighthold is killed in mere seconds
- Set your hearthstone to Dalaran (Broken Isles) for quick access to the raid
- Prepare several characters — the more characters that farm weekly, the higher the combined chance
Clearing the Raid
- Reach the entrance to The Nighthold
- Set the raid difficulty: right-click your character portrait, select "Raid Difficulty" and set it to "Normal" (10 players). Normal difficulty is the fastest for soloing
- Enter the raid and clear all ten bosses. At level 90 each boss dies from one or two hits
- Gul'dan is the last, tenth boss. After killing him, check the loot
- If the mount did not drop — leave the raid, reset the dungeon (right-click the portrait — "Reset all instances") and repeat on another difficulty or another character
Boss Order
The Nighthold has ten bosses, but the path is not fully linear. The minimum route to Gul'dan:
- Skorpyron
- Chronomatic Anomaly
- Trilliax
- Spellblade Aluriel
- Star Augur Etraeus
- Tichondrius (or Krosus)
- Krosus (or Tichondrius)
- Grand Magistrix Elisande
- High Botanist Tel'arn
- Gul'dan
Clearing all ten bosses solo at level 90 takes 10–15 minutes.
Farming Optimization
Farming Across Multiple Characters
The mount's drop chance is around 1%. This means the probability of getting it in a single attempt is extremely low. The most effective way to increase your odds is to farm Gul'dan on as many characters as possible each week.
- 1 character — around 1% chance per week
- 5 characters — around 5% combined chance per week
- 10 characters — around 10% combined chance per week
- 15 characters — around 14% combined chance per week
When farming on 10 characters weekly, the statistical expectation of getting the mount is roughly 10 weeks (2.5 months).
Farming Across Multiple Difficulties
You can kill Gul'dan on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulty in a single week. Each difficulty grants a separate chance at the mount drop. This triples the number of attempts per character.
- Normal — the fastest, minimal mechanics
- Heroic — slightly longer at level 80
- Mythic — on this difficulty the
Fiendish Hellfire Core is also guaranteed to drop, granting a red infernal (
Hellfire Infernal). If you farm Mythic difficulty, you simultaneously get a second mount guaranteed
Optimal Strategy
- Create and level as many characters as possible to level 90
- Each week clear The Nighthold on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulty on every character
- Set the hearthstones of all characters to Dalaran (Broken Isles)
- Start with Mythic difficulty — this way you obtain the guaranteed red infernal sooner
- Combine farming with selling loot — outdated raids bring in several thousand gold per clear
Tips
Start with Mythic difficulty — in addition to the chance at the green infernal, you are guaranteed the red infernal on your first clear. Two mounts in one run
Use high-mobility characters — druids, demon hunters, and monks move between bosses faster thanks to their movement abilities
Don't forget to reset instances — after clearing on one difficulty, leave the raid, reset the dungeon, and enter on another difficulty
Watch for the weekly reset — loot from Gul'dan refreshes every week on Wednesday (for European servers). Don't skip weeks so you don't lose attempts
Black Market as a backup option — if farming drags on, regularly check the Black Market. The mount appears there periodically, although competition is high
"Collector's Bounty" event — during this in-game event the drop chance of rare mounts is increased. However, according to player reports, the Living Infernal Core does not always correctly receive the drop-chance bonus. Nevertheless, activate the event buff at every opportunity
Flight master in Meredil — the nearest flight point to The Nighthold entrance. Unlock it in advance so you don't waste time flying manually from Dalaran
Rarity addon — install the Rarity addon, which tracks the number of attempts and the statistical probability of getting the mount. It helps maintain motivation during a long farm

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
