Mawdapted Raptora

Mawdapted Raptora is an epic flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion with patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" (2022). It is a winged raptor with dark skin and glowing blue-purple facets — a creature synthesized in Zereth Mortis after the Jailer's invasion.

The mount is created at the Forge of Afterlives using a rare schematic. Crafting it requires gathering three components: 350 Genesis Motes, a Mawforged Bridle and a Raptora Lattice.

• A flying mount with a unique model — the dark coloring with a purple glow makes the Mawdapted Raptora visually the grimmest of the three protoform raptors and one of the few mounts with the "corrupted" aesthetic of the Maw
• Flying transport speed — the standard +150%/+280% flight speed bonus depending on your riding skill, a fully fledged flying mount for every zone where flight is unlocked
• Fixed crafting cost — unlike mounts with a random chance, the Mawdapted Raptora is guaranteed once you have gathered all the ingredients. No months-long farming of weekly chests
• Full account unlock — both the schematic and the finished mount are account-bound, so the materials and the final item can be sent between characters
• Shadowlands nostalgia — the mount harks back to the expansion's final content patch and reopens the chance to return to the other systems of Zereth Mortis (the Cipher of the First, legendary items, the Creation Catalyst)

The path to the mount breaks down into three stages: unlocking Zereth Mortis, obtaining the schematic and gathering the crafting materials.

1. Complete the patch 9.1 "Chains of Domination" story campaign through to the end and finish the first chapter of the patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" campaign to unlock access to Zereth Mortis
2. Progress through the Zereth Mortis story until you meet the Forge of Afterlives and gain the ability to use it to craft mounts and pets
3. Head to the eastern part of Zereth Mortis and kill Mawsworn Hulks until Schematic: Mawdapted Raptora drops
4. Pick up the quest Schematic Reassimilation: Mawdapted Raptora, which starts from the schematic, and turn it in to Curator Vay at the Forge of Afterlives
5. Accumulate 350 Genesis Motes — they drop from most Zereth Mortis mobs
6. Obtain the Mawforged Bridle from the Cache of the Moon or from Olea's Stash in Sepulcher of the First Ones
7. Acquire the Raptora Lattice from the rare Defender of the Wastes or from regular raptors in the zone. The material is not bound — it can be bought on the auction house
8. Return to the Forge of Afterlives in the north-western part of Zereth Mortis and craft the Mawdapted Raptora

Before you start farming the schematic, make sure you have met all the prerequisites for Zereth Mortis. Without them, neither the schematic nor the ingredients will be available to you.

1. Character level — any character with free access to Shadowlands is enough. At level 90 in Midnight, all Shadowlands content is soloed in minutes
2. Access to Zereth Mortis — you must complete the 9.2 prologue ("Pass through the gateway of Zereth Mortis"), which opens after completing the 9.1 campaign
3. Flying in Zereth Mortis — unlocked after finishing the "The Mind of Zereth Mortis" quest chain. Flying dramatically speeds up farming the schematic and Genesis Motes
4. An unlocked Forge of Afterlives — appears through the story, after meeting Pocopoc and Pelagos in the north-western part of the zone

Crafting ingredients

The schematic drops from the elite Mawsworn — large iron golems of the Maw faction that patrol the eastern part of Zereth Mortis.

1. Open the Zereth Mortis map and find the Endless Sands area in the east — a semi-desert region with ancient structures and Maw camps
2. Use the nearest flight point or a Zereth Mortis waypoint stone to reach the region
3. Find the patrolling Mawsworn Hulks — these are level 61 Shadowlands elite enemies, with only about 28 of them in the zone. The respawn is fairly fast, a few minutes
4. Kill them one after another, moving between patrols. Each takes no more than 10–20 seconds at level 90
5. The schematic is account-bound and starts the quest Schematic Reassimilation: Mawdapted Raptora — once you have it, take it to Curator Vay at the Forge of Afterlives

Preparing for the farm

• Unlock flying in Zereth Mortis — it greatly speeds up moving between the Mawsworn patrols
• Pick up the quests for Genesis Motes and Zereth Mortis rares so you close other objectives in parallel
• Install an addon like HandyNotes: Zereth Mortis to see all the Mawsworn respawn points and the zone's rares
• Clear space in your bags — the Mawsworn drop a decent amount of grey and green items

Gathering ingredients in parallel

The schematic's drop rate from a Mawsworn Hulk is very low — by player reports, the schematic can drop after as few as 10 kills or after 200+. To avoid wasting time, combine farming the schematic with stockpiling the rest of the materials.

1. Each Mawsworn Hulk you kill is likely to drop several Genesis Motes — by the time the schematic drops, you will already have a significant part of the required 350
2. Ordinary Zereth Mortis raptors can drop a Raptora Lattice, so destroy raptors along the way between patrols for extra rolls
3. Visit the Sepulcher of the First Ones weekly on any difficulty to try for the Mawforged Bridle from the Cache of the Moon

Best spot for Genesis Motes

If you still have not gathered 350 Motes after the schematic drops, head to the area at coordinates 42, 74 — the Fields of Creation. Portals with ravenous scavengers and voracious devourers open there constantly, and every mob drops Genesis Motes. In an hour you can gather 600–900 Motes solo and considerably more in a group.

Working with alts

• The schematic is account-bound, so you only need to get it once — crafting then becomes available on all characters
• The Mawforged Bridle is also account-bound and can be transferred between characters — but the Sepulcher of the First Ones weekly loot lock works per difficulty and per character, so more alts mean more chances to get the bridle
• The Raptora Lattice is not bound — it can be bought on the auction house or freely passed between characters
• Genesis Motes are an account-wide currency, so you can stockpile them on any character
