Pattie's Cap is an epic ground mount added in patch 10.1.5 of the Dragonflight expansion. It is a white alpaca named Pattie who wears a detective's hat and helps adventurers with their investigations. The mount is a reward for completing the Whodunnit? achievement as part of the Secrets of Azeroth world event.
According to the lore, the preservationist Kathos met Pattie during her first assignment in Vol'dun. The alpaca showed an aptitude for preservationist work and now enthusiastically helps adventurers with their investigations.
To obtain the mount you must complete the Whodunnit? achievement by solving all 15 secrets of the Secrets of Azeroth event.
Each secret is a separate puzzle. Below are all the steps needed to earn the achievement.
Speak with Preservationist Kathos at the Roasted Ram tavern in Valdrakken. She will hand you a mysterious box containing a Golden Goblet. Take the goblet to the Valdrakken bank and place it among the coins. Return to Kathos to finish.
Receive a tuskarr ceremonial spear from Kathos. Speak with Elder Poa in Iskaara to learn the spear's story. Then travel to Echo Shore in the Borean Tundra and interact with the Shomko Memorial.
Gather the three components to craft the Thinking Cap toy: a Cogitating Calculation Apparatus, a Downy Helmet Lining, and Crystalline Ocular Lenses. The components are bought from the vendors Klikkiklak Thunderbreaker, Griffon, and Shaky Shortlegs. Assemble the cap and use it to find eight clues around Valdrakken.
Pick up the quest "An Inside Job?" from Bobby Carlisle. Search the preservationist's locker on the second floor of the tavern. Take your find to Sazzel Stickyfingers for appraisal. Return the stolen maruuk burial banner to finish the secret.
Head to the Conservatory of the Lifebinder. Pull the three ancient levers in the correct order. Claim the
Torch of Pyrreth — this toy will be needed for many of the later secrets. Use the torch to reveal a hidden artifact in the Ruby Enclave.
Head to the Vaktros tower in the Azure Span. Use the Torch of Pyrreth to channel flame into the pillar. Interact with the revealed tablet and return to Bobby Carlisle.
Use the Torch of Pyrreth on the four ancient incense braziers in the Eternal Barrows (Ohn'ahran Plains). Once all the braziers are activated, the
Idol of Ohn'ahra will appear — another important toy for the puzzles ahead. Use the idol to find three hidden gems around Valdrakken.
Find three time-lost fragments in the Shifting Sands area of Thaldraszus. Combine the fragments to assemble an incomplete tablet. Turn in the quest to finish the secret.
Use the Torch of Pyrreth in the Sylvan Grove to reveal a hidden stone. Follow the coordinates from the stone using the Thinking Cap. Find and claim the titan keystone mold.
Gather 50 units of rose-gold dust from the Seething Shore using the Idol of Ohn'ahra. Obtain 8 units of fiery flux at the border between the lava and the water. Take part in the forging ritual at the Earthwarder's Forge. Obtain Tyr's Titanic Key.
Carry the burial banner across the Ohn'ahran Plains. Find five ancient signposts in various locations, including the Shikaar Highlands and the Caverns of the Dead Sikks. Set the banner on its stand at the burial mounds.
Head to the Karazhan raid in the Deadwind Pass. Work through the encounters up to the Keeper's Library. Use the Idol of Ohn'ahra to locate four ancient tomes. Interact with Tyr's Legacy and report your findings.
Gather six suspicious notes scattered around Valdrakken. The last note can be obtained by kneeling before the Strange Statue in the secret room of the Dragon's Hoard. Complete the quest by turning the notes in to Fanngli Hoot.
Head to Thunderhead Peak. Enter the three nearby caves. Use the Torch of Pyrreth to reveal tablets. Claim the three buried items and combine them into Rathmus's Orb.
Head to Tyrhold. Light the eight orbs with the Torch of Pyrreth. Gain the "Tyr's Favor" buff (60 minutes). Using the Idol of Ohn'ahra, extract six items from the shattered urns. Place the gathered components into the four titan relays. Interact with the final orb at the top of Tyrhold — congratulations, the Whodunnit? achievement is complete!
While working through the secrets you will obtain three key toys, without which it is impossible to complete the later puzzles:
| Toy | Secret | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Thinking Cap | Secret 3 | Lets you find hidden clues and follow coordinates |
| Secret 5 | Reveals hidden tablets, lights braziers and orbs | |
| Secret 7 | Detects hidden items, used to gather resources |
Don't delete the toys — the Torch of Pyrreth, the Thinking Cap, and the Idol of Ohn'ahra are required for the later secrets. They are saved to your toy collection automatically, but make sure you have learned them.
The secrets can be done at any time — even though the event originally ran from August 31 to September 13, 2023, all of the puzzles and rewards are permanently available.
Use addons — the HandyNotes and TomTom addons will greatly simplify navigating to the coordinates that point to hidden objects.
Karazhan solo — Secret 12 requires entering Karazhan. At max level the raid is soloable without any trouble.
Start with the quest — be sure to pick up the starting quest "Preserving the Rare" from Preservationist Kathos. Without this quest, many objects in the world will not be interactive.
Check your mail — after earning the achievement, the mount may arrive in your in-game mail. If Pattie's Cap does not appear, relog or wait a few minutes.
The "Tyr's Favor" buff — in the final secret the buff lasts 60 minutes. That is more than enough, but don't get distracted by other things.
The mount is account-wide — complete the achievement on whichever character is most convenient for you. Pattie will become available to all of your characters.
