Pit of Saron
Pit of Saron
This dungeon was added in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a large arena filled with various groups of mobs and bosses. The players' objective is to liberate 6 camps and defeat three bosses.
In this guide, we will break down all the dungeon mechanics in detail and cover the intricacies of fighting the bosses and elite enemies inside the dungeon.
Forgemaster Garfrost

Main Boss Abilities
- Throw Saronite
Garfrost throws two saronite boulders at random players. The throw has a 10-yard radius around the target. After the throw, two large boulders remain at the impact sites.
- Shatter
Deals massive damage to the selected target and stuns them for 8 seconds. If the ability hits a saronite boulder instead of a player, the boulder is destroyed and the player is not stunned. After a boulder is destroyed, a special damage zone remains in its place, and saronite collapses begin across the entire platform, dealing damage to anyone caught in the falling rocks.
- Frost Overload
The boss turns toward one of the forges and begins casting a spell for 14 seconds. Streams of cold move toward the boss, dealing damage to all players and leaving a stacking debuff that increases incoming frost damage by 75% every 0.5 seconds. Players must hide behind a saronite boulder to avoid taking damage from this ability.
- Cryostomp
Garfrost strikes in front of himself, dealing heavy damage to all players and destroying a nearby saronite boulder.
Strategy for Fighting Forgemaster Garfrost
- Tanks
This boss entirely depends on how the tank positions the boss. After the Throw Saronite ability, players will leave two large boulders. The first boulder must be destroyed with the Shatter ability, because if the boss is not brought to the boulder, the tank will receive a lengthy stun and will most likely die. After the first boulder is destroyed, it is important to move to the second one so that the Frost Overload ability is blocked by the boulder and the rest of the players can hide behind it and deal damage to the boss.
- Healers
Players will take constant damage with spikes during the casts of Cryostomp and Shatter. Try to use powerful defensive cooldowns during these moments and help the tank when Shatter hits.
- DPS
The DPS players' task is to place the boulders from the Throw Saronite ability so that there is a small gap between them, since the first boulder needs to be broken by the tank and the entire group needs to hide behind the second one. During the Shatter ability, try to use your defensive cooldowns, as heavy damage will hit the entire group.
Ick and Krick

Main Boss Abilities
The boss and its minion share a health pool, so it is important to use cleave abilities for maximum damage.
- Shadows of Krick
The boss summons several copies of itself that deal damage to targeted players for one minute. If the boss copies are not killed within that minute, they will explode and deal lethal damage to the entire group.
- Death Arrow
Krick channels a spell at a randomly selected target for 10 seconds. If this spell is not interrupted, the targeted player will be killed.
Try to interrupt this spell at the very last moment. This way you will have more time to deal damage before the next cast.
- Plague Blobs
Plague blobs will drop in random areas, leaving behind a special zone that deals damage to players within a 3-yard radius.
- Sic 'Em, Ick!
Krick mounts Ick and orders him to chase a random player for 5 seconds. In this state, Ick's attack speed is increased by 100%, and the Plague Blobs ability is applied every second.
Strategy for Fighting Ick and Krick
- Tanks
The tanks' task on this boss is to bring the main boss to the copies so that players can destroy them as quickly as possible. It is important to destroy all copies and interrupt as many casts as possible. Remember that on this boss the summoned mobs have a higher priority, because if they are not killed within one minute, they will kill all group members.
- Healers
Players will take a large amount of damage from the summoned copies and plague pools. Try to use powerful defensive cooldowns during the first phase of the boss while the copies are alive, as this is the phase where players take the most damage.
- DPS
The main task of DPS is to kill the summoned copies. Try to kill them as quickly as possible, since even one copy can wipe the entire group.
During the Sic 'Em, Ick! ability, you need to kite away from the boss in such a way that the boss passes through the plague pools, giving the rest of the group the opportunity to deal damage to the boss.
Scourgelord Tyrannus

Main Boss Abilities
- Bone Saturation
A large number of bone piles are located around the boss. During this ability, the boss marks 5 of them. Subsequently, mobs will spawn from these bone piles, dealing significant damage to all group members.
- Hoarfrost Explosion
Hoarfrost selects two random players and begins casting a spell at them. A special zone with a 6-yard radius will appear around the player, where a freezing spell will be applied. If a bone pile is within the spell's radius, it will be frozen and no mobs will spawn from it.
- Mark of the Scourgelord
Tyrannus deals devastating damage to his target, knocks them back, and increases the shadow damage they take by 200%. He then leaps toward that target and deals massive damage to everyone within a 10-yard radius.
- Army of the Dead
The boss begins summoning mobs from bone piles. Normal bone piles spawn weak mobs that pose little threat to the group. Saturated bone piles spawn elite mobs that deal heavy damage to the entire group every second. If all saturated bone piles have been frozen, elite mobs will not spawn.
Strategy for Fighting Scourgelord Tyrannus
- Tanks
The tank's main task on this boss is to position the boss during the Mark of the Scourgelord ability so that the knockback and the boss's subsequent leap are not directed toward other group members.
Make sure to freeze the marked bone piles when the Hoarfrost Explosion ability is targeting you!
- Healers
Players will take constant damage. Make sure to use powerful defensive cooldowns during the Hoarfrost Explosion and Army of the Dead abilities.
Make sure to freeze the marked bone piles when the Hoarfrost Explosion ability is targeting you!
- DPS
The DPS players' main task is to freeze the marked bone piles when the Hoarfrost Explosion ability is targeting you!
Elite Enemies
In addition to bosses, you will encounter several elite enemies in the dungeon, and fighting them can be quite challenging.
- Lich Fearmonger
Uses powerful spells against both single targets and in AoE. If your pack contains this elite mob, make sure to interrupt all of its casts, use crowd control abilities, and kill it first.
- Lady's Retinue Necrolyte
This elite mob will definitely be encountered on your way as you liberate the camps. This enemy is surrounded by 4 minions that have 1 health and will not die as long as the Necrolyte itself is alive. The Necrolyte itself does not pose a significant threat; however, one of its minions, the Sorcerer Corpse, is very dangerous. It will use the Void Explosion ability with a 3-second cast time. If this ability is not interrupted, the entire group will take lethal damage.
- Clawrending Gargoyle
The gargoyle will dash toward a random player and lift them into the air. The gargoyle will not release its target until players break its shield. While the shield is active, it will continue rising higher. If the shield is broken too slowly, the player will fall from a great height and die from the impact.
