Red Skeletal Horse

Red Skeletal Horse is a racial ground mount of the Forsaken, one of the four basic skeletal horses of the Undercity. Visually it is a warhorse gnawed down to the bone with blood-red barding, bright scarlet eye sockets and a decayed caparison in Forsaken colors. The item first appeared back in the classic version of the game and has since remained part of the inventory of the only vendor of undead racial mounts.

The mount is sold by Zachariah Post — a Forsaken horse trader. All undead characters can buy it freely as soon as they learn basic riding skills. Members of other Horde races gain access to the purchase only after reaching Exalted status with the Undercity faction. The mount is unavailable to Alliance players — it is bound to the faction and is not sold at neutral points.

• A classic collection piece — one of the four basic skeletal horses. All four are bought from a single vendor and are easily collected in one trip.
• Access to elite warhorses — after buying the basic variants, the same vendor unlocks the inventory of the epic Green, Purple and Brown skeletal warhorses.
• Account-wide — a learned mount appears in the collection of all characters on the account, including the Alliance. That means after a purchase by one undead character (or an undead trial character) the mount will be available to absolutely everyone.
• Progress toward mount achievements — every skeletal horse bought counts toward the threshold achievements of the mount collection: Leading the Cavalry (100 mounts), We're Going to Need More Saddles (150), Mountacular (200) and higher.
• An excellent transmog companion for characters in dark sets — the coloring of the red variant specifically pairs well with death knight and dark paladin sets.

The vendor is located in Tirisfal Glades, near the ruined Forsaken capital. After the assault on Lordaeron in Battle for Azeroth and the events of Shadowlands, the Forsaken reclaimed the ruins and moved their main services there.

The current location is the northeast corner of the Ruins of Lordaeron, in a small tent next to other Forsaken faction vendors.

If Brill and the Ruins look destroyed

After the Battle for Azeroth story events, the landscape of Tirisfal Glades is split into temporal phases. If you fly into the zone and see a bombed-out Brill with no vendor — approach Zidormi and ask to be moved to the current temporal phase. The NPC stands by the road between Brill and Silverpine Forest, roughly at the coordinates:

After talking to Zidormi the area will update to its current state, and Zachariah Post will appear in the tent in the ruins.

If you already have an undead character

1. Log onto an undead character and head to Tirisfal Glades through any portal or hearthstone
2. From Orgrimmar travel via Thunder Bluff or the portals in the Mage Quarter — the flight to the Eastern Kingdoms takes less than a minute
3. Fly to the nearest resurrection point in Tirisfal Glades and head northeast
4. Reach Zachariah Post's tent in the northeastern part of the Ruins of Lordaeron

If you don't have an undead character

The fastest way is to create an undead trial character. The trial character feature lets you create a level 70 hero of any race and class without using a slot and without a subscription for additional players.

1. Open the character selection screen and click "Create Trial Character"
2. Choose any undead class (for example, priest or mage)
3. The character appears in the starting zone with gear and a basic riding skill
4. Send it a little gold — you need a few gold for each of the four basic skeletal horses. The character's starting funds are usually enough to buy the entire basic line
5. Fly to the Ruins of Lordaeron and buy all four skeletal horses at once
6. All purchased mounts unlock automatically on the account and become available to any of your characters, including Alliance characters
7. The trial character can then be deleted — the mounts will not disappear

If you are not undead and don't want to create a trial

You'll have to farm reputation with the Undercity to Exalted status. This is a long road, justified only if you are collecting all faction reputations at once.

1. Buy the Undercity Tabard from the quartermaster Captain Donald Adams in the Ruins of Lordaeron
2. Wear the tabard and run dungeons on heroic difficulty — reputation drips in for killing mobs and bosses
3. In parallel, complete all the weekly events that grant a reputation bonus: the Darkmoon Faire, the World of Warcraft anniversary, the Hallow's End festival
4. Economically and in terms of time this is less worthwhile than an undead trial character — use this method only if you need the reputation itself for the sake of other rewards

In some phases and depending on the story quests completed, the vendor is found not only in the Ruins of Lordaeron but also at the Gates of Orgrimmar. This is a backup option that appeared after the destruction of the Undercity in Battle for Azeroth, so that players would not lose access to Forsaken racial mounts.

• Ruins of Lordaeron (Tirisfal Glades) — the main point, relevant after the Forsaken returned to their lands
• Gates of Orgrimmar — a backup point, convenient if you are already in the Horde capital and don't want to fly through the Eastern Kingdoms

If the vendor is not in the Ruins of Lordaeron — check the temporal phase with Zidormi, or fly to Orgrimmar and find the tent with Forsaken vendors at the Gates of Orgrimmar.

In a single visit it makes sense to buy the whole inventory at once — this significantly speeds up progress on mount-quantity achievements.

Note: the epic variants (green, purple, ochre) require the Expert Riding skill, and for non-undead characters — that same Exalted reputation with the Undercity. If you've already made the trip to Zachariah Post, it's reasonable to grab everything he offers right away.

• A trial character is the best way. Creating an undead trial character takes less than a minute and immediately grants access to buying all four basic horses. On a main Alliance or Horde (non-undead) character these mounts will appear automatically in the collection.
• Buy all four colors at once. It costs only 4 gold and instantly adds four entries to the mount counter. For players heading toward the 200, 300, 400 mount achievements — these are free points.
• Once per account. Even if you delete the character you bought them on, the mounts stay — they are bound to the account, not to the character.
• Reputation discount. Characters Exalted with the Undercity receive a small discount on the purchase. For the undead, a price of 1 gold applies by default.
• Collect the warhorses along the way. If you've already come for the basic variants — buy the epic skeletal warhorses from the same vendor too. In total you get seven mounts from one point.
• Check the phase with Zidormi. If you don't see the vendor on your first visit, don't panic — almost always the problem is a temporal-phase mismatch. One conversation with Zidormi solves the issue.
• This mount is not the only "free" one in the collection. In the same way you can buy racial mounts from the vendors of other Horde and Alliance races: orcs, trolls, tauren, blood elves and so on. Many collectors do a "run" of all the racial vendors at once.
