Amber Primordial Direhorn

Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn is an epic ground mount added in patch 5.5.0 of the Mists of Pandaria expansion. It is a large, three-horned dinosaur-like saurian with a bright yellow coloring, with distinctive amber eyes and tongue that set it apart from the other direhorn variants. The mount drops from the rare elite Zandalari Warbringer in Pandaria, and may also appear for sale at the Black Market Auction House.

According to lore, the Zandalari Warbringers are scouting parties of the Zandalari trolls, sent to Pandaria to assess the ancient relics of the Mogu and a possible alliance with the Ironfist clan. Each Warbringer rides a massive direhorn, and it is the color of its mount that determines which mount may drop after victory.

• Bright unique coloring — the amber direhorn has a rich yellow-gold coloring that stands out among the three available variants (slate, jade, and amber). Its distinctive amber eyes and tongue emphasize the "primordial" character of the model.
• Prestigious rarity — the drop chance is about 3.7%, which makes the mount a point of pride for collectors. Obtaining the "golden" direhorn will require patience and persistence.
• Part of the direhorn collection — together with the other primordial direhorns, the mount forms one of the most recognizable themed transport lines in the game.
• Counts toward achievements — every unique mount counts toward the achievement tracker for the mount collector, including "Mountain o' Mounts."
• 100% speed — as a ground mount, the direhorn uses standard movement speed, depending on your riding skill.
• Classic content — the farm takes place in the beautiful zones of Pandaria, which in itself is a pleasant reason to return to Mists of Pandaria content.

To obtain and use the mount you need:

• Character level: 40+
• Riding skill: Journeyman Riding
• Access to Pandaria: the continent of Pandaria must be open for travel
• Combat readiness: the character must be able to handle a level 35 elite enemy solo or in a group
• Patience: the drop chance is about 3.7%, and the Warbringer respawn takes 30–60 minutes

The mount binds on pickup and, once learned, becomes available to all characters on the account.

There are two main ways to obtain the Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn:

1. Farming the Zandalari Warbringer — the primary method. You need to kill the Warbringer who rides specifically the amber direhorn until the mount drops from the loot.
2. Buying it at the Black Market Auction House — periodically the Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn appears in lots at Madam Goya with a starting bid of around 20,000 gold. The final price depends on competition on the server.

A step-by-step plan for farming the Warbringer:

1. Make sure your character has the continent of Pandaria unlocked and has a fast way to move between zones (hearthstones, portals, flying mount)
2. Open the map of Pandaria and prepare a route through all of the Warbringer's spawn points
3. Visit each point and check the color of the direhorn under the Warbringer — you need specifically the amber (yellow) one
4. If the right Warbringer is not at the point or has already been killed, move on to the next zone
5. When you find a Warbringer on an amber direhorn, defeat it and check the loot
6. If the mount did not drop, return to the cycle — the respawn takes 30–60 minutes

The Zandalari Warbringer appears in five zones of Pandaria. It is important to remember that the color of the direhorn under the Warbringer determines which mount may drop.

The Jade Forest

The Warbringer in this zone appears on the coast of the northwestern part of the area. All three color variants of the direhorn can spawn here.

Kun-Lai Summit

The point is located on the eastern coast of the zone. All three colors are also possible.

Townlong Steppes

The spawn point is located in the southern part of the zone. All three colors of direhorn are possible.

Dread Wastes

The Warbringer appears in the central part of the zone. All three colors are possible.

Krasarang Wilds

Important: according to player observations, the Warbringer in Krasarang Wilds most often rides a slate direhorn, so for hunting specifically the amber variant this point is considered the lowest priority. The focus should be on the other four zones.

The Zandalari Warbringer is a rare elite level 35 enemy that poses no serious threat at max character level. However, it has several unpleasant abilities you should know about.

Abilities

• Terrifying Visage — a fear that makes the target flee in panic. Use abilities that remove crowd-control effects, or fearless elixirs
• Meteor Shower — area-of-effect magic damage. Move away from where the meteors land
• Scarab Swarm — summons small bugs that attack you. Gather them up and destroy them with AoE abilities
• Vengeful Spirit — summons an additional helper. Destroy it first to avoid taking double damage

Combat Tips

• The Warbringer is immune to crowd-control effects — do not rely on stuns, transformations, and long CC
• Kill the direhorn the Warbringer rides — it enters combat as a separate creature. Your target is specifically the Warbringer, but the direhorn can deal damage
• On a low-level character it is recommended to gather a group. At max level any class can handle it solo
• Classes with high mobility and kiting abilities (hunters, rogues, monks) handle the fight especially easily
• Keep healing potions and elixirs in your inventory in case of an unlucky roll of abilities

To maximize the number of Warbringer kills per hour, follow a proven strategy.

Route Through All Points

Since each spawn point has an independent respawn timer, the optimal approach is to cyclically circuit all available zones:

1. The Jade Forest (52, 18)
2. Kun-Lai Summit (75, 67)
3. Townlong Steppes (36, 85)
4. Dread Wastes (47, 61)
5. Krasarang Wilds (39, 66) — optional, since the slate variant spawns here more often

After circuiting all points, return to the first — the Warbringer has probably already respawned.

Speeding Up Travel

• Use a flying mount — a mandatory condition for efficient farming
• Set your hearthstone to a convenient location in Pandaria (for example, the Vale of Eternal Blossoms or the Temple of the White Tiger)
• Use the scroll of teleport to Pandaria (mage teleport/portal) if you don't have a free hearthstone
• Lay out waypoints in the TomTom addon — this will let you avoid being distracted by the map

How to Recognize the Amber Direhorn

The amber direhorn has a bright yellow coloring with distinctive yellow eyes and tongue. The slate variant has blue eyes, and the jade one has purple. If you see a Warbringer not on an amber direhorn, there is no point in killing it to get this particular mount.

Using Multiple Characters

One of the most effective techniques is to keep characters at each spawn point:

1. Create or move up to 5 max-level characters, one at each point
2. Before starting a farming session, check each character in turn
3. If the Warbringer has appeared — kill it and switch to the next character

This method eliminates travel time and significantly increases farming efficiency.
