Brown Riding Goat
Overview

Reins of the Brown Riding Goat is a ground mount from the Mists of Pandaria expansion. The Brown Riding Goat is a sturdy mountain goat with massive curved horns and thick brown fur. The mount is purchased for gold from Gina Mudclaw, the quartermaster of The Tillers, upon reaching Exalted reputation.
The item description reads: "Training a stubborn mountain goat to the saddle takes considerable patience and a gentle hand." This perfectly reflects the path to obtaining the mount — patiently grinding reputation through farming quests in the Valley of the Four Winds.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique model — riding goats stand out among the usual horses and dragons. The brown variant has a pleasant warm coloration that harmonizes with many transmogrification sets.
- Part of a series — alongside the brown one, there are two more variants:
Reins of the White Riding Goat and
Reins of the Black Riding Goat. All three are sold by the same vendor and require the same reputation level. - Guaranteed acquisition — unlike low drop-chance mounts, this goat is purchased at a fixed price. You simply need to reach the required reputation.
- Collector's value — a mount from Pandaria content that also unlocks access to useful Tillers faction rewards: recipes, a tabard, farm upgrades.
- Available to both factions — the mount is neutral and can be purchased by characters of both the Horde and the Alliance.
How to Obtain
Obtaining the mount consists of two stages:
- Grind reputation with the The Tillers faction up to Exalted
- Buy the mount from Gina Mudclaw for 500 gold
There are no additional requirements — the mount does not require a rare drop, achievements, or professions. Only reputation and gold.
Where to Find the Vendor
Gina Mudclaw is the quartermaster of The Tillers faction. She is located at the Halfhill market in the Valley of the Four Winds.
Halfhill is the central village of the Valley of the Four Winds, located in the very heart of the zone. This is also where your farm and the main Tillers quest givers are found.
How to Get There
- From Orgrimmar or Stormwind — use the portal to the Jade Forest (the portal hall), then fly southwest into the Valley of the Four Winds
- Directly — if you have already visited Halfhill, use your Hearthstone bound to the innkeeper in Halfhill
In addition to riding goats, Gina sells cooking recipes, The Tillers tabard, farm upgrades (irrigation systems, plows, pest control) and decorative items for your plot.
Grinding Reputation with The Tillers
Reputation with The Tillers is earned through a system of daily quests, tending the farm, and building friendships with ten farmer NPCs in Halfhill. This is one of the most unusual reputations in the game — you are literally running a farm.
Daily Quests
Each day, several types of quests are available to you:
- Farmer Yoon's quests — planting and harvesting crops on the farm (+350 reputation)
- Gifts from Andi — delivering a gift to one of the ten Tillers (+150 reputation)
- Village farmer quests — two quests from different farmers (+150 reputation each)
- Pest control — protecting the fields from thieves and pests (+275 reputation)
Altogether, the daily quests grant about 1,075 reputation points per day.
The Farm and Garden
Your personal farm is a key element of the grind:
- You start with 4 plots, and as your reputation grows, their number increases to 16
- Each harvest gathered gives +50 reputation points
- Plants require care: watering, weeding, spraying against parasites
- On the plots you can grow vegetables, blooming trees and profession seeds
Friendship with Farmers
The 10 Tiller NPCs have separate friendship bars (from Stranger to Best Friend). You can raise friendship through:
- Favorite dishes — each farmer prefers a specific food (+1,800 friendship reputation)
- Gifts — ordinary items give +540, while favorites give +900 friendship reputation
- Dark Soil — dig up gift items across Pandaria to give to the farmers
Friendship with the farmers also raises your overall reputation with the faction.
Speeding Up the Grind
Upon reaching Honored, purchase the
Tillers' Token of Recognition — it doubles the reputation earned and applies to all characters on the account. This will significantly shorten the path to Exalted.
How Long It Takes
With regular completion of all available daily quests and tending the farm, reaching Exalted takes 2-3 weeks. With the Tillers token — faster.
Other Riding Goats
Gina Mudclaw sells three variants of riding goats at the same price and with the same requirements:
| Mount | Item | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Brown Riding Goat | 500 gold | |
| White Riding Goat | 500 gold | |
| Black Riding Goat | 500 gold |
All three mounts cost a total of 1,500 gold. If you have reached Exalted — buy all of them at once.
Tips
Bind your Hearthstone to Halfhill — you will need to return here every day to complete the daily quests and tend the farm.
Don't forget about Dark Soil — shiny mounds of earth appear all across Pandaria. From them you can dig up gifts for the farmers, which grants additional reputation.
Grow useful crops — profession seeds yield crafting resources that can be sold at the auction house. This way you combine the reputation grind with earning gold.
Buy the token at Honored — the
Tillers' Token of Recognition doubles the reputation earned. Don't delay the purchase.
Riding goats are ground mounts — they do not fly. Keep this in mind if you are used to traveling through the air. That said, ground movement speed depends on your riding skill and can reach +100%.
The mount's size depends on race — on large races (tauren, male pandaren) the goat looks tiny. On dwarves and gnomes it looks perfect.
The mount is account-wide — once you buy the goat on one character, you receive it on all characters of the account.
