Overview

Roostwarden's Bough

Game iconRoostwarden's Bough is a two-handed staff of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft with the Midnight expansion. The model belongs to the Haranir branch of dungeon weapons: an elongated shaft of dark wood topped with intertwined branches that echoes the nesting theme of its source. The look is warm and earthy-wooden, without bright gems or metal.

In terms of stats it is an agility staff, so it can be wielded by the druid, hunter and monk. For transmogrification, however, the stats of the role do not matter: you only need to obtain the item once to unlock its appearance in your wardrobe forever and apply it to any suitable staff. The item level is 126, and the required character level is 90.

Source

The staff drops from the first boss of the Windrunner Spire dungeon — Emberdawn, a fiery hawk-dragon guarding its nest. The dungeon belongs to Midnight and is part of the Mythic+ rotation in the first season.

  • The dungeon entrance is located in the southern part of the Eversong Woods, not far from the ruins of Deatholme.
  • Entrance coordinates: /way 64.4 61.8.
  • The appearance unlocks on any difficulty — Normal, Heroic, Mythic and Mythic+. Only the item level itself changes; the appearance stays the same.
  • Emberdawn is the first of four bosses, so reaching it again on repeat runs is quick.
  • There is no attempt limit: you can re-enter the dungeon as often as every day until the appearance drops.

The fight with Emberdawn is built around fire: the boss breathes a frontal cone of flame and applies a searing debuff to players that is best dragged toward the corners of the room. For farming the appearance the tactics are secondary — on content that is outdated for your level, the boss goes down fast.

Who it suits visually

  • It fits sets in a natural, druidic style — wooden and leafy motifs echo the staff's head.
  • It harmonizes with leather and mosaic sets in earthy tones: brown, ochre, muted green.
  • It is fitting for the look of a forest keeper or beast tamer — the nest and bird-of-prey theme supports hunter and monk concepts.
  • It contrasts strikingly with cold blue-violet cloth sets — a debatable but expressive combination.

Tips

1

The fastest way to farm is to enter the dungeon on the lowest available difficulty and kill only the first boss, then reset and re-enter.

2

The appearance unlocks immediately upon obtaining the item: picking it up on a character who does not need it for stats is also fine — the look is still saved to your collection.

3

It is most convenient to farm with a class that has high mobility and good self-healing, so you do not waste time resting between fights.

4

If you go in a group, remember that an agility staff is of interest to the druid, hunter and monk — agree on priority in advance.

5

A Mythic+ run is not needed for the appearance, but if you are farming the dungeon stone anyway, the appearance will drop along the way.

6

Check your wardrobe after a run: if the appearance is already unlocked, you can safely disenchant the item and not let it take up bag space.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
