Overview

Royal Swarmer's Reins

Game iconRoyal Swarmer's Reins is a flying mount from World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, added alongside the Trading Post assortment update (patch 10.1). The mount is a yellow-gold aqiri drone — a tentacle-headed insect with semi-transparent wings and an aggressive stance. The item description reads: "These drones will swarm anyone who dares approach their queen without an invitation," a nod to the aesthetics of the ancient aqir and the Old Gods.

The Royal Swarmer uses the base aqiri drone model from Battle for Azeroth and is the fourth mount in this line, alongside the Game iconShadowbarb Drone and the Game iconMalevolent Drone. Unlike its counterparts, which are obtained through the patch 8.3 "Visions of N'Zoth" content, the Royal Swarmer is the only aqiri mount purchased with Trading Post currency.

Why you want this mount

  • Exclusive yellow coloring — the only aqiri drone variant in a golden-yellow palette, making the collection stand out against its black, purple, and red siblings
  • Flying and ground modes — the mount can both walk on the ground and fly, making it versatile in any zone and at any level
  • Common account-wide currency — paid for with Trader's Tender, which accumulates on your account without being tied to faction or class
  • Guaranteed acquisition — unlike lottery mounts from raids and dungeons, the Royal Swarmer is purchased directly, with no element of chance
  • Returns to rotation — the mount appears in the Trading Post regularly. In February 2025 it was sold at a discount for 500 tender
  • Fast speed scaling — in the air it grants a +150%, +280%, or +310% speed bonus depending on your riding skill, and +60% or +100% on the ground

How to obtain

The Royal Swarmer's Reins is obtained solely through the Trading Post system, so your main task is to wait for the mount to enter the monthly rotation and to save up enough Trader's Tender.

  1. Open the story quest Tour the Trading Post — an introductory quest that activates access to the Trading Post. The quest is available to characters level 10 and above
  2. Receive 500 tender from the Collector's Cache at the start of each month — the reward is granted automatically on your first visit to the post
  3. Complete activities from the Traveler's Log to fill the progress bar and earn up to 1000 more tender per month (combined with the special reward)
  4. Wait for a month in which the Royal Swarmer's Reins enters the rotation — this usually happens once every few months
  5. Visit the Trading Post in Orgrimmar (Horde) or Stormwind City (Alliance) and buy the mount for 800 tender
  6. Use the item — it will teach you the spell Game iconRoyal Swarmer and add the mount to your collection across all characters on the account

Trading Post vendors

Purchasing the Royal Swarmer's Reins is possible in three capitals. The inventory of all three vendors is identical and refreshes monthly.

Vendor Location Faction
Zen'shiri Orgrimmar, near Grommash Hold Horde
Tony Wilder Stormwind City, Mage Quarter Alliance

How to earn Trader's Tender

The maximum you can earn in a single calendar month is 1000 Trader's Tender through in-game activities. Another 500 is added from the Collector's Cache at the start of the month — for a total of 1500 tender.

Collector's Cache

On your first entry into the Trading Post after the month begins, the Collector's Cache opens, granting 500 tender without any conditions to meet. Simply visiting the post with any character is enough.

Traveler's Log

A monthly list of activities with themed presentation. Each task awards points that fill the bar. When fully filled, a special reward is granted (usually a cosmetic item or toy) plus the remaining tender up to the monthly maximum.

  • Regular tasks include killing raid bosses (legacy content counts), completing 15 local quests, running Mythic+ keys, participating in battlegrounds and arena
  • Some tasks refresh each month to match the rotation theme: holiday activities, professions, in-game events
  • You don't have to complete every task — the bar fills selectively

Optimizing tender farming

Single-account strategy

  1. Complete three base tasks in the first days of the month to quickly close out the main bar
  2. The main "meaty" activities: 25 raid bosses (legacy content counts while farming transmogs), 15 open-world quests, 5 arena or battleground matches
  3. Bring in one or two additional characters to close repeatable tasks faster
  4. Toward the end of the month, check the bar — most tasks are completed along the way during normal play

Saving across multiple months

Trader's Tender does not expire and carries over to the next month. If you play actively, over two months you can save up 3000 tender or more, which fully covers the cost of the Royal Swarmer's Reins with a surplus for other inventory items.

  • Check Wowhead's inventory announcements in advance so you know which month the mount you want will appear
  • The "Freeze" feature lets you reserve one item for the next month if you don't have enough tender
  • Within 2 hours of purchase, an item can be refunded with a full tender reimbursement — useful if you bought the wrong thing by accident

Tips

1

Complete at least the minimum activities every month — even if there's no item you need, tender accumulates and will come in handy later. A missed month is minus 1500 in potential currency

2

Don't spend tender on trinkets before a major mount returns — keep a reserve of at least 800 tender so you can buy the Royal Swarmer at any moment when it appears

3

Use legacy content to fill the bar — old raids like Firelands or Ulduar let you quickly rack up 25 bosses in a single run, especially at max level

4

The mount is account-wide after purchase — after using the Royal Swarmer's Reins, it unlocks on all characters on the account, including future ones. No need to buy it again

5

Freeze items when short on currency — if you haven't saved 800 tender by the end of the month, use the freeze feature so the mount is guaranteed to wait for you next month
