Overview

Runebound Firelord is a flying mount in the form of a fire elemental, inspired by the appearance of Ragnaros from the Firelands raid. The mount is summoned using the Smoldering Rune of Binding item and is available to all characters on the account.

The mount was added in patch 10.2.0 and was originally part of the Blazing Heroic Upgrade bundle for Cataclysm Classic. As of September 25, 2025, it is also sold separately in the Battle.net Shop.

How to Obtain

Method 1 — Purchase in the Battle.net Shop (current)

As of September 25, 2025, the mount is available for separate purchase in the Battle.net Shop.

Price: 25 USD (the price may vary by region).

Steps:

Open the Battle.net Shop or the in-game shop
Go to the Mounts section
Find the Runebound Firelord
Complete the purchase
After purchase, the Smoldering Rune of Binding item will appear in your mount collection automatically

The mount is bound to your Battle.net account and becomes available to all your characters.

Method 2 — Cataclysm Classic Bundle (no longer available)

From November 3, 2023, to September 25, 2025, the mount was part of the Cataclysm Classic bundles:

Blazing Heroic Upgrade (29.99 USD) — included the mount for retail WoW
Blazing Epic Upgrade (79.99 USD) — included the mount, a boost to level 80, and 30 days of game time

These bundles are no longer for sale. If you purchased one of them earlier, the mount should already be in your collection.

Game version: retail World of Warcraft only (the mount is not available on Classic realms)

Appearance and Features

The Runebound Firelord is a massive fire elemental whose design is directly inspired by the appearance of Ragnaros — the final boss of the Firelands raid. The mount's body is made of molten lava, surrounded by blazing flames and glowing runes.

Key visual traits:

A fiery body with lava veins and runic patterns
Bright flame effects while moving and idle
In the air, the mount leaves a fiery trail behind it
On the ground, scorching heat marks appear beneath the mount
Unique sound effects of crackling fire and a deep rumble

Tips

Watch for sales. The Battle.net Shop periodically runs sales with discounts of up to 50% on mounts. If you're in no hurry, wait for a discount and buy the mount at a reduced price.

Check your purchases. If you bought a Cataclysm Classic bundle earlier, the mount may already be in your collection — check your mount journal and search for the word "Firelord."

Gift to a friend. In the Battle.net Shop, the mount can be purchased as a gift for another player — a convenient option for gifting a guildmate or friend.
