Overview

Runestaff of Nordrassil

Game iconRunestaff of Nordrassil is a two-handed staff with a deep-green, "living" look: emerald runes flow along the shaft, while the head resembles a canopy-wrapped branch of the World Tree. It is an intermediate stage of the legendary staff chain for Game iconDragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest, which arrived in World of Warcraft during the Cataclysm expansion with patch 4.2 and the Firelands raid.

Visually the staff is an upgrade of the earlier stage, Game iconBranch of Nordrassil: the silhouette is the same, but the runes burn brighter and the model shifts into a richer emerald tone. In spirit this is the "druidic" branch of the legendary weapon — the natural motifs of Nordrassil instead of the dragon flame of the final form — so it is prized for transmog by those building a look around the theme of the Emerald Dream and ancient trees.

The staff is granted as a reward for the quest "Alignment" — one of the steps in the long legendary Dragonwrath chain. The quest is picked up from the blue dragon Kalecgos at Coldarra (Borean Tundra): he escorts the hero to the council of the blue dragonflight, and once the scene ends you receive the Runestaff of Nordrassil.

To reach this step, you need to grind materials in the Firelands raid:

  • Before "Alignment" you gather a large stash of the Game iconSeething Cinder currency — it drops from the raid bosses.
  • An earlier stage of the chain calls for Game iconEternal Ember — a rare item with a high drop chance from almost every Firelands boss.
  • The final form of the staff, Dragonwrath, requires a trophy from the raid's last boss, Ragnaros.

A key detail: the chain is strictly sequential, and the Runestaff of Nordrassil cannot be obtained out of order — first you earn the Branch of Nordrassil, and only then does the quest "Alignment" transform it into the runic variant. Do not disenchant or sell the previous stage — it is needed further along the chain.

Who it suits visually

  • It fits looks themed around the Emerald Dream — the rich green tone echoes the natural armor of druids.
  • It harmonizes with plate and leather sets in a natural palette dominated by green and gold.
  • It looks great in the hands of an outfit built around the motif of the World Tree and its branches.
  • It works in contrast with dark silhouettes: the staff's bright runes become the accent of the look.

Tips

1

The staff is part of the legendary Cataclysm chain, so alongside the transmog you also progress toward the final Dragonwrath.

2

The Firelands is long outdated and can be soloed on almost any class at the current level.

3

The fight with Ragnaros is the only truly "drawn-out" spot in the raid; at modern levels he too falls quickly, but it is his trophy that is needed for the final form.

4

Seething Cinder accumulates the slowest of all — plan on several raid runs before the quest "Alignment" unlocks.

5

Do not disenchant the Branch of Nordrassil: without it the quest will not grant the runic variant.

6

The chain itself is bound to the character, so you can only farm the materials on the hero leading the legendary quest line.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
