Overview

Rustbolt Resistor

The Rustbolt Resistor is an epic ground and flying mount added in Patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a mechanical flying machine of the Rustbolt Resistance, built from spare parts and scrap on the Island of Mechagon. The mount is purchased from the Stolen Royal Vendorbot in Rustbolt on the Island of Mechagon for 524,288 gold once you reach Exalted reputation with the Rustbolt Resistance.

The word "RESISTANCE" is crudely scratched onto the mount's seat, along with a few other phrases best left unspoken. The Rustbolt Resistor visually resembles a combat aircraft and shares its model with the R-21/X Air Vehicle and Mimiron's Jets.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — unlike mounts with a percentage drop chance, the Rustbolt Resistor is bought from a vendor. As soon as you reach the required reputation and save up the gold, the mount is yours
  • Immunity to HK-8 — the unique feature of this mount: the HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit on Mechagon will not attack you while you fly the Rustbolt Resistor. On any other mount, HK-8 locks onto its target and knocks you out of the sky unless you manage to land in time
  • Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Ground speed is up to +100%, and flight speed is up to +310% depending on your riding skill
  • Available to all characters — once purchased, the mount becomes available on every character on your account
  • Mechanical aesthetic — if you enjoy the style of gnomes and mechagnomes, this mount is a perfect addition to your collection. It looks like a genuine combat helicopter assembled from scavenged materials

How to Obtain

To buy the mount you need to meet two requirements: reach Exalted reputation with the Rustbolt Resistance and have 524,288 gold (or 419,430 gold with the reputation discount).

  1. Unlock access to the Island of Mechagon by completing the introductory quest chain (more details in the "How to Reach Mechagon" section)
  2. Begin completing daily quests and world quests on the island to build reputation with the Rustbolt Resistance
  3. Raise your reputation to Exalted (42,000 points total from Neutral to Exalted)
  4. Save up 524,288 gold (or 419,430 with the Exalted discount)
  5. Find the Stolen Royal Vendorbot in Rustbolt on Mechagon
  6. Purchase the Rustbolt Resistor and use the item to learn the mount

How to Reach Mechagon

The Island of Mechagon is a hidden location that became available in Patch 8.2. To reach the island, you must first unlock Nazjatar.

First Visit

  1. Complete the introductory Battle for Azeroth quest chain in your faction's capital (Boralus for the Alliance or Dazar'alor for the Horde)
  2. Reach Friendly reputation with three factions on your side and unlock all three war campaign foothold zones
  3. Unlock Nazjatar — follow the quest chain until world quests become available in that zone
  4. After that, the quest "The Legend of Mechagon" becomes available and will take you to the island
  5. Complete the introductory chain through to the quest "Welcome to the Resistance" — this unlocks daily and world quests on Mechagon

Quick Access (After Unlocking)

Once the introductory chain is complete, a permanent way to return to the island appears:

  • Horde — talk to the goblin in the southeastern part of Dazar'alor (coordinates 41.8, 87.4) for instant transport to Mechagon
  • Alliance — use a flight point from any location in Kul Tiras

Building Reputation with the Rustbolt Resistance

To reach Exalted you need to earn 42,000 reputation points. The main sources are listed below.

Daily Quests (Main Source)

Around five daily quests are available on Mechagon each day. Most are picked up in Rustbolt, but some are given by other characters across the island. Each quest grants between 75 and 150 reputation points.

World Quests

Two world quests are available daily on Mechagon:

  • Main quest — requires completing various content on the island (killing rare enemies, gathering treasures). Reward: 850 reputation points
  • Pet battle — defeat one of the elite battle pets. Reward: 75 reputation points

One-Time Sources

  • Introductory quest chain — each quest grants 75 reputation points
  • Rare enemies — the first kill of each of the 36 rare mobs grants 75 points (2,700 points total)
  • Pet battles (first clear) — defeating each elite pet for the first time grants an additional 75 points via a quest item
  • "Spider Tank" quest chain — a twelve-day chain of daily quests, each granting 75 points (900 points total)
  • Crafting the gramophone and the keg-o-tron — each grants 500 reputation points

Daily Repeatable Sources

  • Recycling spare parts — once per day you can turn in a set of recycled parts for 150 reputation points. To craft the set, combine 5 Empty Energy Cells, 30 Tempered Springs, and 10 Tempered Plating
  • Fishing — ten secret fish on the island grant 25 reputation points each (up to 250 points per day)

Contract

Buy or craft the Contract: Rustbolt Resistance — it grants an additional 10 reputation points for every world quest completed in any zone.

Reputation Boosters

  • Darkmoon Faire — ride the carousel to gain the "WHEE!" buff (+10% reputation for 60 minutes)
  • World Quest Bonus Event — +50% to reputation earned from world quests during the event week
  • Banner of Cooperation — a guild bonus of +10% reputation
  • Human race — a passive +10% bonus to earned reputation thanks to the "Diplomacy" racial ability

Farming Optimization

Daily Plan

At max level, Mechagon content goes by quickly. The optimal daily routine:

  1. Check whether the Rustbolt Resistance emissary is available — if so, prioritize this faction's quests first
  2. Complete all available daily quests in and around Rustbolt
  3. Finish both world quests
  4. Kill any available rare enemies — they are marked with stars on the map
  5. Gather parts and turn in the set of recycled spare parts
  6. Catch the secret fish for extra reputation
  7. Open the treasure chests scattered across the island

How Long It Takes

With an active grind, completing all available quests daily, reaching Exalted takes roughly 2-3 weeks. If you combine farming with bonus events and the Darkmoon Faire, the timeline can be shortened.

Tips

1

Don't skip the 850-reputation world quest — it is the single largest daily source of reputation on Mechagon. Skipping it significantly slows your progress

2

Use the contract — 10 points for every world quest in any zone add up to a noticeable bonus if you actively complete world quests in other zones

3

Kill rare mobs at the first opportunity — each rare enemy grants 75 reputation only once. Together, the 36 rares yield 2,700 points — a meaningful contribution in the early stages

4

Collect blueprints — many blueprints on Mechagon unlock useful items and devices. Crafting the gramophone and the keg-o-tron grants 500 reputation points each

5

Combine with the Darkmoon Faire — the "WHEE!" buff from the carousel lasts 60 minutes and increases earned reputation by 10%. Activate it before you start your quests

6

The mount protects you from HK-8 — once purchased, use the Rustbolt Resistor on Mechagon to fly freely. The HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit will not attack you on this mount

7

Fish every day — ten secret fish grant 250 reputation points daily. It's a quick extra source that's easy to miss
