Sandy Shalewing

Sandy Shalewing is a flying mount from the Dragonflight expansion, added in patch 10.1.7 (September 5, 2023). The mount is a denizen of the Zaralek Cavern — a predatory shalewing with a sandy-golden coloration and wing patterns that, according to the mount journal description, resemble "sand flowing through an hourglass. You could watch it forever."

Originally, the mount was awarded only for completing the meta-achievement Master of the Turbulent Timeways during the first run of the Turbulent Timeways event in the autumn of 2023. With patch 11.0.7, Blizzard returned the mount to sale: it can now be purchased from any Timewalking vendor for 5,000 Timewarped Badges, making it available to all collectors.

• Unique shalewing model — the Sandy Shalewing uses the base shalewing model from Zaralek Cavern but features an exclusive sandy-gold coloration that cannot be obtained in any other way
• Full flying mount — it supports both flight modes: classic flight and Skyriding, allowing speeds of up to 830% on the Dragon Isles and up to 705% on the other continents
• Affordable cost — 5,000 Timewarped Badges can be accumulated within one or two Timewalking events without much effort
• Account-wide — once purchased, the mount appears in your collection on all characters, regardless of faction and class
• An alternative to rare bosses — other shalewings (for example, the Cobalt Shalewing) drop from rare mobs with about a 1% chance, whereas the Sandy Shalewing is guaranteed to be purchasable with currency

There are two paths to the mount: buy it from a vendor with currency, or earn it through the current meta-achievement during the Turbulent Timeways event.

Method 1. Purchase with currency (current method)

1. Wait for an active week of the Turbulent Timeways event or a regular Timewalking week of any expansion
2. Accumulate 5,000 Timewarped Badges by running Timewalking dungeons and completing weekly quests
3. Find the Timewalking vendor in the capital city corresponding to the current expansion (Shattrath for Burning Crusade, Dalaran for Wrath of the Lich King, Stormwind/Orgrimmar for Cataclysm, and so on)
4. Buy the Sandy Shalewing and use the item to add the mount to your collection

Method 2. The Master of the Turbulent Timeways achievement

This method is only available during an active Turbulent Timeways event. The mount is awarded for obtaining the Tilted Timeways buff across 5 different weeks of the event.

1. Wait for the start of the Turbulent Timeways event (a period from December to February)
2. Each week, run 4 Timewalking dungeons to accumulate 4 stacks of the Time Conduit buff
3. After the 4th stack, the buff transforms into Tilted Timeways — this counts as 1 week of progress toward the achievement
4. Repeat steps 2–3 across 5 different weeks
5. Earn the Master of the Turbulent Timeways achievement and receive the mount in the mail

To buy the mount you need to collect 5,000 Timewarped Badges. The currency is only available during an active week of any Timewalking event.

Optimal accumulation plan

1. Complete the weekly quest for 5 dungeons — receive 500 badges
2. Run 5–10 additional dungeons through the dungeon finder tool — each gives about 50 badges for the priority role plus base badges for bosses
3. In a single week it is realistic to gather 1,000–1,500 badges, which lets you buy the mount within 4–5 weeks of the event

The achievement requires 5 weeks, in each of which you need to obtain the Tilted Timeways buff. The buff itself lasts 3 hours and is not reset when you log out.

Standard path

1. In the first week of the event, enter a Timewalking dungeon through the dungeon finder tool
2. Complete 4 dungeons — each one grants a stack of the Time Conduit buff
3. After the 4th stack, the buff transforms into Tilted Timeways, and the achievement counter increases by 1
4. Repeat the procedure in each of the following 4 weeks of the event

Accelerated method (one dungeon per week)

Players discovered that the Tilted Timeways buff can be preserved between weeks. If you obtain the buff in one week and keep it active until the reset, completing just a single dungeon the following week will refresh the buff's duration and count as +1 toward the achievement.

1. In the first week, run 4 dungeons and obtain the Tilted Timeways buff
2. Do not use experience scrolls and do not let the buff expire before the server reset
3. After the reset (Wednesday in Europe, Tuesday in North America), run just 1 dungeon — the buff will refresh and count a new week
4. Repeat every week until the counter reaches 5
