Shadowspeaker's Shard — Transmog Set Guide

Shadowspeaker's Shard is a one-handed dagger from the Warlords of Draenor expansion, added with the opening of Draenor in patch 6.0.2. It is a compact draenei-crafted blade: a faceted edge set on a dark hilt, styled after the Sargerei cultists of Shadowmoon Valley. The model is built to look like a crystal shard sharpened into a combat weapon, which is exactly where the name comes from.

In terms of stats it is a weapon for intellect-based specializations: the dagger suits mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, druids, and evokers, while for transmogrification its appearance is available to any class that can wield daggers. The base version of the item has rare (blue) quality and drops directly from the rare mob. In Draenor's Timewalking mode the same dagger appears with the "Timewarped" tag and scaled stats, which has no effect on the transmog look at all, as both versions share the same appearance.

The blade's color scheme is neutral and restrained: the dark edge with a matte mounting does not shout on screen, yet it reads clearly. That makes the dagger a handy detail for looks in the spirit of shadows, secret orders, and Legion cultists.

Shadowspeaker's Shard drops from the rare mob Shadowspeaker Niir, a level 40 draenei that patrols Socrethar's Rise in the south of the Shadowmoon Valley zone. The spawn point is at the coordinates /way #534 48.2 80.8, a plateau above the Bury Fields held by Sargerei forces. According to Wowhead, the blade's drop chance from Niir is about 41%, meaning he is precisely the "named" source of the item.

Key farming details:

• Shadowspeaker Niir is a rare mob, not an elite boss. On a leveled character of the current level he is killed solo with ease.
• This is an ordinary rare mob that respawns on a timer, not a one-off story enemy. After a kill he can be farmed again, waiting for the next spawn.
• In combat the mob uses shadow abilities, damage against him is not limited in any way, and there are no special mechanics for soloing him down.
• With a small chance the blade also drops from the regular mobs of the same camp, the Sargerei Demonlord and the Sargerei Binder. The odds are measured in fractions of a percent, so this is incidental farming, not a separate strategy.
• Socrethar's Rise overlaps with the quest Assault on Socrethar's Rise, a garrison daily for Apexis crystals. Taking it is optional, but if it is active, clearing the plateau combines well with farming the dagger.

An alternative route is to buy the dagger from Timewalking vendors for the Timewarped Badge currency. Badges are awarded for Warlords of Draenor dungeons in Timewalking mode and for weekly event quests. For the Alliance the badges are taken by Tempra in Stormshield, and for the Horde by Kronnus in Warspear. The blade's price is 50 badges.

Shadowmoon Valley opens during the Warlords of Draenor campaign for the Alliance (for the Horde the starting zone is Nagrand, and Shadowmoon Valley is reached later). If the zone is not yet open, you can fly to it directly through the Draenor flight table. The appearance becomes available in the collection once the item is obtained by any character on the account, so farming on an alt works fine.

Shadowspeaker's Shard has no official recolors with separate item identifiers; it is a unique appearance. However, it belongs to a family of draenor daggers of the same geometry: the same faceted shard-blades are reused across several Warlords of Draenor items in different colors. Variants close in silhouette:

• Dagger of the Sanguine Emeralds uses a related shard model in a red-crimson coloring, a variant for warm-toned looks. It drops from Teron'gor, the final boss of the Auchindoun dungeon.
• Shadowmoon Sacrificial Dagger is another Shadowmoon Valley dagger for intellect; it can be picked up in the same zone in a single run from the treasure of the same name.

• Suits Warlords of Draenor priest and warlock sets with dark, charcoal accents; the blade supports the theme of shadows and Legion cultists.
• Harmonizes with draenor armor in muted blue-gray and silvery tones; the dagger supports the race's "crystalline" aesthetic.
• Looks good in a paired dagger set for a rogue: the compact silhouette and calm color do not overload the look.
• Contrasts with gold and scarlet sets, where the dark shard becomes a color accent in such a pairing.
• Fits a "shadow agent" or "secret order" concept thanks to the dark hilt and restrained styling of the blade.
