Shard Splinter — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Shard Splinter is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 11.0.5 alongside the game's 20th anniversary celebration. The blade is built on an angular crystalline model: the edge looks like a sliver of volcanic rock, while the hilt resembles a red-hot shard of ore. The dark-gray base with warm orange-crimson veins ties in perfectly with the Blackrock and Dark Iron theme.
The item carries the "Timewarped" tag and becomes soulbound on pickup. This is a typical hallmark of rewards from anniversary content: the dagger is not available permanently, only during the run of the corresponding event.
Source
Shard Splinter is obtained in Blackrock Depths — a dungeon that was reworked for the game's 20th anniversary into a full-fledged 10–15 player raid. The raid is available in three difficulties, and the dagger has a corresponding appearance version on each of them.
There are two ways to get the item.
First path — boss drops. The dagger drops from the raid bosses, the first of which players encounter is Lord Roccor — a large stone elemental near the dungeon entrance. The run's difficulty determines the item level. The appearance, however, is the same across all difficulties.
Second path — purchase with currency. Killing the raid bosses awards the
Timewarped Relic Coffer Key currency. Each boss yields 3 keys of the difficulty the run was cleared on. The keys are exchanged for gear from vendors in Tanaris, near the Caverns of Time:
- Braggi Brazenbrass sells Raid Finder gear for keys of the corresponding difficulty.
- Kraegan Emberforge trades in Normal-mode versions of the items.
- Hilda Hellforge offers Heroic-difficulty gear.
A single item costs 40 keys. Over the entire event you can accumulate no more than 120 keys of each difficulty, so through the vendor you can deliberately buy out only a limited number of items — the choice is worth making thoughtfully.
An additional chance to get the dagger comes from the event's reward chests, for example the
Cache of Dark Iron Treasures, which is awarded for raid-related quests.
An important caveat: the Blackrock Depths raid is seasonal anniversary content. When the event is inactive, neither the bosses nor the vendors are available, and the appearance cannot be obtained. If the event is currently closed, all that remains is to wait for its next run.
Who It Suits Visually
- Harmonizes with sets themed around Dark Iron and Blackrock — dark metal with red-hot veins.
- Looks great in outfits with a fiery or volcanic palette, where you need an accent that is cold in form but warm in color.
- Contrasts with light leather armor, adding a sharp stone-crystalline silhouette.
- Suits "dwarven" and "mining" character concepts thanks to its look of a worked chunk of ore.
- A paired dagger of the same appearance assembles into a symmetrical set for dual-wield specializations.
Tips
The dagger and any other raid rewards are available only during the run of the anniversary event — plan your farming in advance.
Each boss killed yields 3 keys, so a full raid clear noticeably speeds up currency accumulation.
The limit of 120 keys of each difficulty per event caps purchases — prioritize appearances that are hard to obtain through random drops.
The appearance is identical across all three difficulties, so for transmog purposes it is enough to clear the raid on Raid Finder — the fastest and most accessible mode.
Heroic mode only makes sense if you simultaneously need a high item level for your gameplay character, rather than the appearance itself.
Check the event's reward chests — they give an additional chance at the dagger beyond direct boss drops.
Once obtained, the appearance is saved in your collection forever, even after the event ends, and remains available to all characters on the account.
If the raid is currently closed, mark the item on your Wowhead wishlist so you don't miss the next anniversary run.
