Silent Fang — Transmog Set Guide

Overview

Бесшумный клык

Game iconSilent Fang is a one-handed sword with a curved, katana-style blade. The model is distinctive: a narrow blade with a slight curve and a dark hilt, with the item icon inv_sword_41. Visually it is a restrained, "eastern" weapon with no flashy glow effects, which makes it a handy foundation for the looks of a mercenary, a rogue, or a wandering swordsman.

The sword originally appeared in the classic version of World of Warcraft as a reward from the Scholomance dungeon. In patch 5.0.4 the item was removed from the game along with the old version of the dungeon, and it was later returned in patch 10.1.5 (the Dragonflight expansion) together with the "Legacy of Scholomance" initiative. It is now a full-fledged target for transmog collectors: the appearance can once again be obtained and added to your collection.

Beyond its appearance, the sword has an effect that veterans will recognize — a possible on-hit effect, Game icon"Silence", which prevents the target from casting spells for 6 seconds. It has long ceased to affect stats in the modern game, but it adds to the item's recognizability.

Source

Silent Fang drops from the final boss, Darkmaster Gandling. Important: the sword does not drop from the modern version of the dungeon, but from the old (classic) version of Scholomance, which you must unlock first.

  • Difficulty: the dungeon is outdated and can easily be cleared solo at max level.
  • The drop chance from Gandling is around 15%, so several runs may be required.
  • There are no entry limits — the old version can be reset as many times as you need for farming.

How to Unlock the Old Version of Scholomance

Access is opened through the achievement "Memory of Scholomance". In short, the sequence is as follows:

  • Clear the modern version of Scholomance and kill Darkmaster Gandling.
  • In the room above and behind him, use the Game icon"Krastinov's Bag of Horrors" toy and find the bone next to which the ghost of Eva Sarkhoff appears. Take Eva's femur.
  • Gather the ritual items in the Western Plaguelands and neighboring zones: water from the fountain in Caer Darrow, as well as items that ghosts will exchange for ritual candles.
  • Perform the ritual according to Eva's diary in the dead-end room in the northeastern corner of the building — you will receive the "Memory of Scholomance" achievement and permanent access to the old version of the dungeon.

After unlocking, the entrance to the old version appears inside the same building on the island of Caer Darrow — you need to turn not toward the modern entrance, but toward the ritual diary.

Alternatives

Silent Fang has no color variations (recolors) — it is a unique appearance. But its katana model is also used by other blades, so a similar silhouette can be assembled from more accessible sources.

Game iconSkystrider Katana The same katana blade model Game iconitem=25147

If you want exactly this curved "eastern" silhouette but don't want to farm the old version of the dungeon, take a look at the "Skystrider Katana" — it uses the same model and is easier to obtain.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It harmonizes with dark leather sets in the mercenary or rogue style thanks to its restrained dark hilt.
  • It works for a dual-wield look with a matching blade of the same model — two katanas look cohesive.
  • It contrasts with heavy plate armor: a light curved blade next to massive armor gives a deliberately austere, "wandering" look.
  • It fits thematic Plaguelands and undead looks — given that the sword is historically tied to Scholomance.

Tips

1

First unlock the old version of Scholomance through "Memory of Scholomance" — without it, Silent Fang does not drop, and the modern version of the dungeon yields different loot.

2

To unlock it you will need the "Krastinov's Bag of Horrors" toy: if it is not yet in your collection, obtain it in advance in the modern Scholomance.

3

The sword drops only from the final boss, so you can head straight to Gandling — there is no need to kill the intermediate bosses for this appearance.

4

The drop chance is around 15%, so plan on several runs on average; the entrance is not time-limited.

5

The dungeon can be cleared solo at max level, no group needed.

6

It is most convenient to farm on a class with high mobility and fast single-target damage — extra bosses are skipped, and a run takes only a few minutes.

7

The appearance is account-bound after you learn it, so all of your characters will be able to wear the collected look.
