Smoldering Egg of Millagazor

Smoldering Egg of Millagazor is an item that, when used, teaches the spell Pureblood Fire Hawk. It is a flying mount in the form of a huge fiery bird, almost identical to the model of the boss Alysrazor. The mount was added to World of Warcraft with patch 4.1 "Rise of the Zandalari" of the Cataclysm expansion and remains one of the most coveted trophies from the Firelands raid.

The item drops from the raid's final boss, Ragnaros. Since the raid is long outdated, players run it solo for mounts, transmog and achievements. At max level (90 in Midnight), the Firelands can be cleared in 15–20 minutes on any class.

• A rare fiery model. The huge fire hawk looks spectacular in flight — flames stream along its wings and tail. It is one of the most recognizable mount models of the Cataclysm era
• A symbol of completing the Firelands. Alongside the Flametalon of Alysrazor, it is a key trophy mount of the entire raid
• Two chances per week per character. The raid has separate loot locks on normal and heroic difficulties, so each character can kill Ragnaros twice a week
• Great for multi-farming. Thanks to the fast solo run, the mount can be farmed efficiently across a large number of alts at once
• Account-wide collection. The mount is bound to the account: it is added to the collection of all your characters as soon as the item is used

The drop chance does not depend on difficulty or raid size (10 or 25 players). Normal and heroic versions have separate loot locks, so in a single game week you can get up to two attempts at the mount per character.

• Character level — formally from 85, in practice any max level (90 in Midnight) clears the raid without issues
• Riding skill "Artisan" or higher — required to fly to the raid entrance
• Completing the Mount Hyjal story line is not required — the entrance to the Firelands is open right away
• Reputation, quest chains or achievements — not required

The raid entrance is located near the top of the Sulfuron Spire on Mount Hyjal (Kalimdor). You can only reach it on a flying mount.

1. Open the Kalimdor map and head to the Mount Hyjal zone. The easiest way is to take a portal to Orgrimmar/Stormwind and fly to Hyjal
2. In Hyjal, fly southwest toward the Sulfuron Spire. The entrance is at its top

4. Before flying, switch the raid difficulty: character menu → "Group Size" → choose 10 or 25 players and normal or heroic difficulty
5. Enter the portal at the top of the spire

The raid consists of seven bosses, but the mount only drops from the last one, Ragnaros. The bosses can be killed in any order, except for Ragnaros, who becomes available after the other six.

1. Beth'tilac — the spider queen in the central part of the location. At max level she is killed with direct damage without regard to phases
2. Lord Rhyolith — the fiery lord on the southern platform
3. Shannox — a hunter with hounds on the western road
4. Alysrazor — the fiery dragon in the northeastern part. She is exactly who drops the Flametalon of Alysrazor. For a faster farm of only the Ragnaros mount, she can be used as a springboard: after killing her, pick up three fiery feathers and use the brief flight buff to fly straight to the Majordomo and skip Beth'tilac, Shannox and Baleroc
5. Baleroc the Gatekeeper — the fiery guardian between the Shannox and Majordomo platforms
6. Majordomo Staghelm — the last "minor" boss before Ragnaros's throne. He appears in the northern part of the raid after killing two other bosses
7. Ragnaros — the Firelord. The fight has several phases with emerging from the lava and flying sons of flame; at max level he can be killed in 1–2 minutes, ignoring most mechanics

After Ragnaros dies, a special loot stash appears — check it: that is exactly where the Smoldering Egg of Millagazor may lie.

Two kills per week

Ragnaros has separate loot locks on normal and heroic difficulties. The scheme for one character per week:

1. Choose raid size 10 players and normal difficulty
2. Clear the raid, kill Ragnaros, take the loot
3. Leave the raid, switch the difficulty to heroic of the same size
4. Re-enter and kill Ragnaros again

That makes two independent chances at the mount from one character per week.

Multi-farming on alts

The loot lock is personal, so each of your characters gives an additional two chances per week. With ten alts, that is twenty attempts a week — statistically the mount drops over a few months of regular farming.

• Unlock the flight skill and the Kalimdor access story line on each alt in advance
• Keep all characters parked at the entrance — this saves time on travel

Optimal classes

Nearly every class can solo the Firelands, but those with mass damage and mobility farm it fastest:

• Demon Hunter — high mobility and strong mass damage, one of the fastest classes for farming old raids
• Mage — teleports between locations, mass damage from frost and fire spells
• Monk — running on air, moving between platforms without needing to mount up
• Warlock — summons, self-healing, survivability thanks to demons
• Druid — quick shift into flight form between platforms

Skip via Alysrazor

If you are only interested in Ragnaros, you can shorten the path as follows:

1. Skip Beth'tilac (she is in a separate lair and does not affect the mount)
2. Kill Alysrazor
3. After the kill, collect the three fiery feathers dropped on the ground
4. Activate the flight buff and fly over the bridge to the Majordomo platform
5. Kill the Majordomo and unlock access to Ragnaros

This lets you skip Shannox and Baleroc, which noticeably speeds up the run.

• Check Ragnaros's stash. After the boss dies, a special chest, the "Cache of the Firelord", appears, and that is where the mount drops from. Don't forget to interact with it, or the loot will burn away
• Don't confuse the two mounts. The Smoldering Egg of Millagazor drops from Ragnaros, while the Flametalon of Alysrazor drops from Alysrazor. These are different mounts, although both come from the Firelands
• Switch difficulty before entering. If you have already entered the raid, the difficulty can only be changed by leaving and coming back. This wastes time
• Don't use Raid Finder. A Raid Finder version of the Firelands does not exist; the mount drops only with a manually assembled group or solo
• Track your attempts. Write down a list of characters and mark when you killed Ragnaros on each — that way you won't miss a single chance per week
• Collect the accompanying loot. Along the way you farm tier 12 transmog sets and unique profession recipes that are still in demand
• Bound on pickup. The mount cannot be sold or traded — it is registered to the account after being used by the very first character who obtains it

Can the mount be obtained in Raid Finder? No. There is no Raid Finder version of the Firelands. The mount drops only in normal and heroic modes.

Does the drop chance change on heroic difficulty? No, the chance is the same on both difficulties. Heroic is valuable precisely for the second loot lock, not an increased chance.

Do you need to kill all bosses to unlock Ragnaros? To access Ragnaros you must kill the six previous bosses and Majordomo Staghelm. Some of them can be skipped using the skip via Alysrazor.

Does the "Collector's Bounty" buff work on this mount? Yes, if Blizzard activates a seasonal buff for an increased drop chance on old mounts, it also applies to the Smoldering Egg of Millagazor.
