Overview

Staff of Infinite Mysteries

Game iconStaff of Infinite Mysteries is an epic two-handed staff for casters, added to World of Warcraft in The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.0.3). It is an elongated black-and-purple staff with a bluish glow and a finial shaped like a sphere enclosed in curved arcs. The dark base and cold thaumaturgical accents make it a recognizable caster weapon of the TBC era.

The staff's appearance fits the looks of mages, warlocks, priests and shamans well. Today the item is valued primarily as transmog: its stats have long been irrelevant, but its silhouette and glow remain in demand among fans of classic arcane looks.

Source

The staff drops from The Curator, an arcane guardian in the Menagerie of the Karazhan raid. Karazhan is the abandoned tower of Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal, located in the south of the Deadwind Pass zone in the Eastern Kingdoms.

Key details on obtaining it:

  • It is a raid item from World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade and belongs to the staves category.
  • The Curator is one of Karazhan's mandatory bosses; you cannot reach the far part of the tower without passing him.
  • The staff shares the boss's loot table with his other rewards, so it does not drop on every run — it may take several weeks of farming.
  • The limit is one Curator kill per week per character, so it makes sense to farm on several alts at once.

How to enter Karazhan today

  • The entrance to the tower is in the Deadwind Pass zone, at the foot of Karazhan near the main gate.
  • In the current version of the game, raid attunement has been removed — you can enter freely, without obtaining the Master's Key or completing the old quest chain.
  • At level 90 the raid is cleared solo with ease: the bosses, including The Curator, are killed quickly, and this boss has no mechanics that are problematic for a solo run.

Who it suits visually

  • Pairs well with dark cloth robes in a purple-and-black palette — arcane and shadow looks for mages and priests.
  • Harmonizes with The Burning Crusade-era warlock sets thanks to the shared gloomy palette.
  • Suits "thaumaturge" and "explorer of forbidden magic" concepts thanks to the bluish glow of its finial.
  • Stands out in contrast with golden and light sets — a debatable but expressive choice for weapon-focused looks.

Tips

1

Farm The Curator once a week on every suitable character — this way the drop chance adds up faster.

2

At level 90 it is most convenient to enter on a class with high mobility and good single-target damage to clear the raid quickly.

3

Along with the staff, The Curator also drops Tier 4 gloves and other epic items — extra transmog for the same run.

4

Do not waste time on the old attunement chain: the Master's Key is no longer needed to enter.

5

If the staff did not drop, do not be discouraged — the loot is split among several of the boss's rewards, and the item often comes only after several weeks.

6

Keep free bag space: a full Karazhan run accumulates plenty of transmog items from other bosses.
