Overview

Stonevault Shiv

Game iconStonevault Shiv is a rare one-handed dagger from the early days of World of Warcraft. It is a short blade with a clean silhouette: a straight, medium-width edge and a plain hilt with no ornate decoration. The model is austere and grounded, with no glow or effects, which makes it a handy base for "rough," rustic, or earthy looks.

The name refers to the Stonevault dwarf clan — the inhabitants of the Uldaman dungeon, where the dagger comes from. The silhouette suits most classes that use daggers: rogues, druids, mages, warlocks, priests, and shamans.

Source

The Stonevault Shiv is a zone drop: it falls from regular mobs inside the Uldaman dungeon. The item has no dedicated "named" boss owner, so farming comes down to clearing trash throughout the dungeon.

One confirmed source is the Earthen Sculptor, a stone creature that inhabits the halls of Uldaman. The dagger can also drop from other humanoids and dungeon guardians, so it is worth clearing the entire route rather than just one specific mob type.

Farming notes:

  • The drop chance is low — this is a rare zone drop, so plan for several repeat runs.
  • There is no attempt limit: you can re-enter the dungeon as many times as you need.
  • At modern max level, the whole dungeon can be cleared solo in a few minutes on any class.
  • The item is bind on equip, so you can buy a copy from other players on the auction house if you would rather not farm it yourself.

How to Get to Uldaman

The dungeon entrance is in the northern part of the Badlands zone on the Eastern Kingdoms continent, roughly at coordinates 40.9, 10.3.

/way #3 40.9 10.3 Entrance to Uldaman

You can get there by flying through the neighboring Eastern Kingdoms zones, or via the portal network of major cities followed by a flight to the Badlands.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Works well for vagabond, mercenary, or novice-thief looks — a simple, unadorned blade reinforces the "grounded" feel of the build.
  • Harmonizes with leather sets in earthy and gray-brown tones, where a flashy weapon would clash with the overall palette.
  • Fits dwarven and thematically "mining" looks thanks to the name's connection to the Stonevault clan.
  • Contrasts with heavy plate sets — it can serve as a deliberately modest detail for battle mages and priests.
  • A good choice for rogues dual-wielding two identical daggers when you want a restrained blade that does not draw attention.

Tips

1

Farm the entire dungeon route — the dagger drops from various mobs, not from one specific type.

2

Bring a class with good mobility or area damage: the faster you clear trash, the more runs per hour.

3

Between runs, fully exit the dungeon and re-enter so the mobs respawn.

4

If the farm drags on, check the auction house — the item only binds on equip and is often sold by other players.

5

Once obtained, you only need to learn the item once: the appearance is saved permanently in your account-wide transmogrification collection.

6

This dungeon also drops plenty of other rare weapon and armor appearances — it makes sense to collect them in a single run.

7

Clear any level-restricted profession requirements in advance: a low-level item is still learned into the collection regardless of your character's level.
