Overview

Stormtouched Bruffalon

Stormtouched Bruffalon is an epic ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 10.2.6 "Plunderstorm". It is a massive dark-blue bruffalon with stormy flashes running along its fur, visually inspired by the Noble Bruffalon from patch 10.0.7 but recolored into cold, stormy tones. The item description emphasizes the creature's connection to Raszageth: "Even from imprisonment, Raszageth's primal disdain bent mighty beasts to her will."

The mount is the reward for the mega meta-achievement Across the Isles and requires completing nine major sub-achievements spanning every faction and event of the Dragon Isles. It is one of the longest achievements in the expansion — full completion takes upward of a month of real time due to the time-gating of individual sub-achievements.

Why you want this mount

  • A unique stormy bruffalon model — the only mount in the game with a storm-colored bruffalon model. Its silhouette is bulkier than regular hoofed beasts, and the running animation gives away a heavy, hulking creature
  • Prestige status — the Dragonflight mega meta is completed by a very small fraction of players. Having the mount in your collection shows that you cleared nearly all of the expansion's content
  • Six bonus mounts along the way — while you work through Across the Isles, six of the nine sub-achievements grant their own separate Dragon Isles faction mounts on their own
  • Part of the A World Awoken mega meta — by finishing Across the Isles you immediately progress toward the expansion's main reward, Taivan
  • Account-wide — once earned, the Stormtouched Bruffalon appears in the collection of all your characters, regardless of faction and class

How to obtain

The only source of the mount is completing the Across the Isles meta-achievement, which combines nine separate Dragon Isles achievements. The minimum timeframe is a month of real time: some of the sub-achievements have weekly and rotating time gates.

  1. Level a character to max level and unlock all zones of the Dragon Isles. Most tasks require access to world quests, secret encounters and the events of the Emerald Dream
  2. Complete the expansion's main story chains, including patches 10.0.7, 10.1, 10.1.5, 10.1.7 and 10.2 — this unlocks most repeatable events
  3. In parallel, start farming the five faction and event meta sub-achievements: Wake Me Up, Army of the Fed, Centaur of Attention, Flight Club and Into the Storm
  4. Close out the four single achievements tied to repeatable events: Closing Time, Nothing Stops the Research, Dream Shaper and Through the Ashes and Flames
  5. Once all nine criteria are closed, Across the Isles completes automatically and the Stormtouched Bruffalon arrives in your mailbox

Structure of the "Across the Isles" meta-achievement

The meta-achievement consists of nine criteria. Five of them are themselves meta-achievements and grant their own faction mounts along the way, while four are single achievements from repeatable events.

Criterion Type What is required Bonus reward
Wake Me Up Meta Help the Dragonscale Expedition in the The Waking Shores Grotto Netherwing Drake
Centaur of Attention Meta Maruuk clan tasks in the Ohn'ahran Plains Bestowed Plainswalker Bearer
Army of the Fed Meta Reputation and activities of the Iskaara Tuskarr in The Azure Span Bestowed Trawling Mammoth
Flight Club Meta Valdrakken Accord faction in Thaldraszus Bestowed Otterworld Defender
Into the Storm Meta The Primal Storms event across all elemental types Coral Salamanther
Closing Time Single Time rifts and the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon
Nothing Stops the Research Single The Researchers Under Fire event in Zaralek Cavern
Dream Shaper Single Quests during the Whisper of the Dream event
Through the Ashes and Flames Single The Fyrakk Assaults Fel Camp

Optimal completion order

The sub-achievements have different time-gating mechanics. Below is the order that lets you finish Across the Isles as fast as possible without idling while waiting for rotations.

Priority 1 — time-gated events

First, start the achievements that depend on the in-game rotation. Missing a window throws you back by weeks.

  • Army of the Fed — the longest part. Requires completing tuskarr tasks, some of which appear only once a week. Budget at least 4–6 weeks
  • Into the Storm — you need all four types of Primal Storms: fire, water, air, earth. Storm zones rotate and elements are random
  • Through the Ashes and Flames — complete the "Fel Camp" task during active Fyrakk Assaults
  • Dream Shaper — the "Shaping the Dreamsurge" task during an active Dreamsurge

Priority 2 — faction metas

In parallel with the time gates, build reputation and close out the faction achievements. Many criteria are earned naturally through daily and weekly tasks.

  • Wake Me Up — eight tasks of the Dragonscale Expedition in the Waking Shores
  • Centaur of Attention — eight tasks of the Maruuk centaurs in the Ohn'ahran Plains
  • Flight Club — eleven tasks of the Valdrakken Accord in Thaldraszus

Priority 3 — quick singles

The remaining ones close fairly quickly with a max-level character on hand.

  • Closing Time — Time Rifts and the achievements of the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon
  • Nothing Stops the Research — kill the rare enemy Raykah during Researchers Under Fire

Bonus mounts

This achievement is one of the most rewarding "packages" in the game. In addition to the Stormtouched Bruffalon, five of the nine sub-achievements reward separate Dragon Isles faction mounts.

  • Grotto Netherwing Drake — for Wake Me Up
  • Bestowed Plainswalker Bearer — for Centaur of Attention
  • Bestowed Trawling Mammoth — for Army of the Fed
  • Bestowed Otterworld Defender — for Flight Club
  • Coral Salamanther — for Into the Storm

In this way, by completing Across the Isles you simultaneously earn six mounts and serious progress toward the A World Awoken mega meta, which rewards the brutosaur Taivan.

Tips

1

Start with Army of the Fed — it is the main time gate. Every week of procrastination turns into a week of the whole chain idling. Sign up for the weekly tuskarr tasks right after reset

2

Keep a buffer for storms — as soon as a notification about a Primal Storm of the needed type appears in chat, interrupt your current activity and go close the Into the Storm criterion

3

Subscribe to community timers — the HandyNotes addons and Dragonflight event maps show the schedule of Time Rifts, the Dreamsurge and Fyrakk Assaults

4

Do not do the mega meta on several characters — the achievements do not require completion on alts. All the work is done on one main character

5

Close out factions first — by raising the reputation of the Dragonscale Expedition, Iskaara Tuskarr, Maruuk Centaur and Valdrakken Accord, you gain progress on most criteria along the way

6

Check the "Dreamsurge" tab — during the active event in the Ohn'ahran Plains, Dream Shaper closes quickly. The event runs once every few weeks

7

Don't forget about Taivan — after getting the Stormtouched Bruffalon you will only have a few raid and profession criteria left for the main Dragonflight reward
