Get Strange Dagger
Overview

Strange Dagger is an uncommon one-handed dagger from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion with item level 14 and a character level requirement of 27. The dagger's model uses the shared "nerubian" silhouette with a dark hilt and a greenish-grey blade — a gloomy, almost archaeological look that fits nicely into "scholar", "cultist" or "wandering mystic" sets.
Acquiring it today only makes sense for transmog: its stats are outdated, and the dagger itself "becomes soulbound when equipped", meaning you cannot put it through the auction house — you have to run the dungeon yourself.
Source
The dagger's main source is the The Nexus dungeon, whose entrance is located in the Coldarra area of Northrend. The item drops from ordinary humanoids of Malygos's faction that inhabit the dungeon. A confirmed dropper on modern servers is the Crystalline Tender, an elite humanoid among the Nexus guardians.
Key farming parameters:
- The dungeon is a 5-player one, and at the current maximum level it can be cleared solo in a single run without trouble.
- The drop chance is very low — this is a "junk" green drop from the common trash-mob pool, so focus not on a specific boss but on a full clear.
- The dagger "becomes soulbound when equipped", so farming is only possible in person — you cannot buy it on the auction house.
- The dungeon has no weekly lockout on normal difficulty: if it does not drop, you can reset the instance and re-enter.
- Additionally, a similar-silhouette dagger from the same drop pool occasionally appears on humanoids of the Scourge faction in the Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom dungeon — in particular, from the Plundering Geist. It only makes sense to add this location if you are farming something else there in parallel.
Who it suits visually
- Sets in a "green — grey — cold metal" palette: the blade's colour organically continues green accents on armour and does not "clash" with it in brightness.
- The look of a mage or priest researcher in a "field archaeologist" spirit: the simple shape and muted sheen read as a working tool rather than a ceremonial weapon.
- Sets with a nerubian or subterranean theme — Ahn'kahet, the Old Empire, risen from the dark: the dagger visually echoes such armour sets.
- Looks in which the dagger should be a "secondary" attribute rather than the centre of the composition: the model is modest enough not to pull attention away from the cloak and set.
- A dual-dagger setup for a "renegade" rogue: a pair of identical "Strange Daggers" gives an even silhouette without bulkiness.
Tips
Enter the dungeon at maximum level and switch the difficulty to normal — it has no weekly lockout, so the instance can be reset and re-entered.
Hold a short pause between resets, otherwise the game will throw the error "you have entered too many instances".
Take a class with fast trash clearing — area abilities of a mage, paladin or demon hunter sharply reduce the time per run.
The dagger is bound when equipped, but it also "binds on pickup" in the inventory — do not throw away duplicates before opening the transmog collection, otherwise you will have to farm again.
Include the dungeon bosses in your farm right away: besides the dagger, they drop level 14 green items that can be disenchanted into dust and essences for enchanting.
If the dagger does not drop within 5–7 runs, switch to parallel farming in Ahn'kahet: a shared drop pool of the same level range increases the total chance.
Do not buy from other players and do not search the auction house: the item is soulbound, trading is impossible.
Before heading to The Nexus, open the transmog collection and check whether the dagger's model is already unlocked — Wrath greens often have a "double" unlock through items of the same type.
