Get Reins of the Striped Frostsaber mount
Overview

Reins of the Striped Frostsaber is one of the night elves' racial ground mounts, added back in the original World of Warcraft. It is a large saber-toothed cat with thick gray-white fur and distinctive dark stripes. The item description states that this beast has such an appetite that night elves nicknamed it "dragon's belly."
The mount is sold by Lelanai, a saber trainer. After the destruction of Teldrassil and the subsequent revival of the night elves, she relocated to Bel'ameth — the new capital at the foot of the world tree Amirdrassil on the Dragon Isles. Three other basic sabers and three epic ones are sold there as well.
Why You Want This Mount
- Cheap purchase — just 1 gold from the vendor, available as early as level 10. One of the earliest mounts you can obtain in the game
- Unique model for non-night elves — to unlock access to the sabers, characters of other Alliance races need to raise their reputation to revered with Darnassus. For many collectors this is the only way to get a cat racial model
- Part of the collector achievement — the mount counts toward all the general achievements for the number of mounts collected, including Leading the Cavalry (100 mounts), Lord of the Reins (300 mounts) and later ones
- Four stripes in one collection — Lelanai sells all four basic sabers and three epic ones. If you are already standing at the vendor, it makes sense to close out the whole lineup in a single trip
- Classic aesthetic — the model has not been redrawn since Classic, and it remains one of the few ground mounts that move "on the paw" rather than at a gallop. It looks great with night elf and druid transmog sets
- Account-wide collection — as soon as one character buys the mount, it automatically appears in the collection of all your characters of the corresponding faction
How a Night Elf Gets the Mount
For a night elf character the mount is available immediately, as soon as you reach level 10 and learn Apprentice Riding. The whole process takes literally a couple of minutes.
- Make your way to Stormwind by any convenient means
- Open the capital map and find the portal to Bel'ameth in the Stormwind Embassy, or use the
teleport to Bel'ameth from a mage's spellbook - Step through the portal to Bel'ameth
- Head to coordinates 51.4, 66.0 — there, among the saber pens at the foot of Amirdrassil, stands Lelanai
- Open the dialogue, select purchase and pick up the Reins of the Striped Frostsaber for 1 gold
- Activate the reins — the mount will appear in your collection and become available to all night elves on the account
How a Character of Another Race Gets the Mount
Any Alliance character can buy a saber from Lelanai if they raise their reputation to revered with Darnassus. After the destruction of Teldrassil, the easiest way to farm reputation with the night elves is through repeatable sources and the Darnassus Tabard.
- Equip the
Darnassus Tabard, sold by Moon Priestess Lasara in the Stormwind Embassy. The Darnassus Tabard grants reputation with Darnassus for kills in any dungeon from Wrath of the Lich King onward - In parallel, complete weekly and daily quests that reward Alliance reputation — many old quests and events grant reputation with all the major cities, including Darnassus
- The fastest way is to run several old dungeons in a row with the tabard equipped. One full clear of a heroic Legion or BfA dungeon grants about 1,000–1,500 reputation points
- Bring the value up to revered (42,000 points from friendly)
- Head to Lelanai in Bel'ameth — now all four basic sabers, including the Reins of the Striped Frostsaber, will open up in her stock
- Buy the mount for 1 gold and activate it. It will appear in the collection of all Alliance characters on the account
Other Sabers at Lelanai
While you are standing at the vendor, it makes sense to immediately close out the whole lineup of night elf racial mounts. All four basic sabers cost 1 gold each, the three epic ones cost 10 gold each and require learned
Journeyman Riding.
Mount | Price | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 1 gold | Apprentice Riding | |
| 1 gold | Apprentice Riding | |
| Reins of the Striped Frostsaber | 1 gold | Apprentice Riding |
| 1 gold | Apprentice Riding | |
| 10 gold | Journeyman Riding | |
| 10 gold | Journeyman Riding | |
| 10 gold | Journeyman Riding |
Buying all seven sabers will cost 34 gold and instantly raise your collection by seven mounts.
How to Get to Bel'ameth
Bel'ameth was added in patch 10.2.5 "Seeds of Renewal" and became the new night elf capital. There are several ways to get there.
- Portal from Stormwind. A permanent portal to Bel'ameth is set up in the Stormwind Embassy. This is the fastest way for any Alliance character
- Mage spell. Mages learn the teleport to Bel'ameth automatically after their first visit to the city
- Hall of Champions. The Stormwind Hall of Champions also has a portal to the world tree
- From the Dragon Isles. If you are already on the isles, Bel'ameth is located west of the Ohn'ahran Plains. By mount or flying dragon the trip takes less than a minute
After your first visit to the capital you unlock the ability to bind your hearthstone to Bel'ameth, which makes return visits easier — for example, if you later farm reputation on other characters.
Tips and Common Questions
- Which character should buy it? The fastest option is a night elf of any class at level 10. If you do not have a night elf, look at another Alliance alt you already run through old dungeons for transmog and mounts — Darnassus reputation "drips in" alongside what you are already doing
- How long does revered with Darnassus take? Without a tabard and boosts — from several weeks of random activities. With the Darnassus Tabard and focused farming of old dungeons — 4-6 hours
- Can the mount be obtained through the auction house? No. The reins bind on pickup; they cannot be resold or traded. Only a direct purchase from Lelanai
- Do you need the night elf itself to activate it? No. After purchase the mount binds to the account and becomes available to all Alliance characters. The reins can be activated by anyone
- Does the mount work for the Horde? No. This is an Alliance racial mount; the Horde can neither buy nor use it
- The old route through Darnassus. Before patch 8.0 Lelanai stood in the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassus. After the burning of Teldrassil the capital was destroyed, and the vendor was for a while in the Stormwind Embassy. Now she has finally moved to Bel'ameth — looking for her in the old locations is pointless

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
