Get Sunblade

Sunblade is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the release of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is one of the Challenge Mode reward weapon models — a separate line of appearances that cannot be obtained from a raid or a dungeon by ordinary means.

Visually, the dagger keeps a warm gold-and-bronze palette: a broad, engraved blade with a sun motif on the guard and a glowing inlay at the base of the blade. The model belongs to the Draenor Challenge Mode reward weapon set with its distinctive "crystalline" silhouette — the same artistic direction as the rest of that season's pieces.

The dagger suits every specialization that uses daggers: rogues, druids, shamans, warlocks, mages and priests. Item number 118399 itself is already a cosmetic appearance: when used, it adds a transmogrification illusion to your warband's collection, so there is no need to equip it as a combat weapon.

Sunblade was one of the rewards for the Challenge Warlord: Gold achievement. To unlock that achievement, you had to clear all eight dungeons of the Warlords of Draenor expansion in Challenge Mode with a Gold rating:

• Skyreach.
• Auchindoun.
• Grimrail Depot.
• The Everbloom.
• Bloodmaul Slag Mines.
• Shadowmoon Burial Grounds.
• Upper Blackrock Spire.
• Iron Docks.

Challenge Mode means timed runs: you had to clear the dungeon faster than a set benchmark to earn the gold medal. After completing the achievement, the appearance could be bought for 1000 gold from the Challenge Mode vendors:

• Challenger Savina — for the Alliance, in Stormshield, the city of Ashran.
• Challenger Sunforge — for the Horde, in Warspear, the city of Ashran.

The key point: with the launch of the Legion expansion in August 2016, the Warlords of Draenor Challenge Mode was disabled, and with it went the ability to earn a Gold rating. The Draenor reward weapon appearances, including Sunblade, became unobtainable — these are limited-time rewards. They cannot be unlocked in the game anymore: they remain only with those who earned the achievement during the Warlords of Draenor era.

If you earned the "Challenge Warlord: Gold" achievement in time, pay attention to the item Arsenal: Draenor Challenger's Armaments — it was added in patch 7.0.3 and unlocks the appearances of all the weapons from this mode at once. You can buy it from the same vendors, and it is available only to a character who completed the achievement.

Sunblade has no known recolors — the model is unique to the Draenor reward weapon set. Daggers from the same season that are similar in style and silhouette:

Soul Eater is the second dagger from the same line of rewards. It is rendered in a cold, dark palette and serves as a direct opposite to the warm Sunblade. Both belong to one appearance set, which is unlocked by the item Arsenal: Draenor Challenger's Armaments.

If you did not manage to earn the achievement, there is no exact equivalent of Sunblade in the game — Challenge Mode appearances were deliberately not handed out through other sources.

• Pairs with gold-and-bronze armor sets — for example, with plate and mail sets in warm tones from the Draenor dungeons.
• Harmonizes with "solar" and "priestly" themed appearances — the blade's golden glow echoes elven sets in warm gold tones.
• Looks great alongside a second dagger of a contrasting color: the dark Soul Eater in the off-hand creates an expressive "light and shadow" pair.
• Suits the look of a duelist rogue and a battle priest, where the weapon needs a bright, ceremonial presentation rather than a grim one.
• Contrasts with dark leather armor — a debatable but striking choice if you want the weapon to stand out against the overall look.
