Sunreaver Dragonhawk
Overview

Sunreaver Dragonhawk is a flying mount for the Horde faction, added in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.2). It is a large dragonhawk clad in red-and-silver armor, belonging to the elite blood elf mages of the Sunreavers organization. The in-game description reads: "The Sunreavers of Dalaran select only the swiftest and most fearsome dragonhawks."
The mount is purchased from the vendor Vasarin Redmorn at the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown for 150 Champion's Seals. Buying it requires Exalted reputation with the Sunreavers faction. The Alliance counterpart is the
Silver Covenant Hippogryph.
Why you want this mount
- Unique dragonhawk model — the red-and-silver dragonhawk in battle armor is noticeably larger and more striking than the standard blood elf riding dragonhawks. The model is unique to this mount and is not reused by any other flying mount
- Flying mount — flight speed depends on your riding skill: +150%, +280% or +310%. On the ground it moves at +60% or +100% speed
- Account-wide — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters, including Alliance characters
- Part of the Argent Tournament collection — more than ten mounts can be bought at the tournament for Champion's Seals, and the Sunreaver Dragonhawk is among the most prestigious of them
- No luck required — unlike mounts with a percentage drop chance, this mount is guaranteed to be purchased with a fixed currency. All you need is the time to farm
How to reach the Argent Tournament
The Argent Tournament is located in the northeast of Icecrown in Northrend. You can get there in several ways.
- Open the map of Dalaran (Northrend) and find Krasus' Landing — the spot where the flight master stands
- Next to the flight master is the NPC Jean-Pierre Poulain, who teleports you to the Argent Tournament Grounds for free
- An alternative is to fly directly north from Dalaran across Icecrown to the tournament tents marked on the map
At max level (90 in Midnight) the trip to the tournament takes a couple of minutes, and all the quests and enemies on the grounds pose no challenge at all.
How to get the mount — step-by-step guide
Obtaining the Sunreaver Dragonhawk requires completing the Argent Tournament quest chain and accumulating 150 Champion's Seals. The whole process takes several weeks of daily quests.
Stage 1: Aspirant (3 days)
Arrive at the Argent Tournament and speak with Justicar Mariel Trueheart in the central tent. She will direct you to the quest NPCs of your faction. At this stage you have three daily quests available, each of which grants Aspirant's tokens. Advancing to the next stage requires 15 tokens — which takes exactly 3 days.
Stage 2: Valiant (5 days per city)
After your promotion you become a Valiant of one of the Horde cities. At this stage four daily quests are available, granting Valor tokens. Each city requires 25 tokens (5 days). You can be a Valiant of only one city at a time, so completing all five cities (Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon, Undercity, Darkspear) takes about 25 days.
Stage 3: Champion (start farming Seals)
Once you become a Champion of at least one city, you unlock access to the Champion daily quests, which reward Champion's Seals. At this stage you can earn up to 9 Seals per day.
Main sources of Champion's Seals:
- Champion daily quests on the tournament grounds (jousting bouts, tasks in Icecrown)
- Each quest rewards 1 Seal, and also offers a choice between a Champion's Purse (10 gold + 1 additional Seal) and a Champion's Writ (250 reputation points with a chosen faction)
- The heroic Trial of the Champion — a dungeon inside the Crusaders' Coliseum, where each of the three bosses grants 1 Seal (3 Seals per run)
Stage 4: Crusader (maximum income)
After earning the rank of Champion of all five Horde cities and reaching Exalted with each of them, you gain the title of Crusader. This unlocks additional daily quests and increases your daily income to 14 Seals (up to 17 counting the heroic dungeon).
Stage 5: Buying the mount
Once you have accumulated 150 Champion's Seals and reached Exalted with the Sunreavers, head to Vasarin Redmorn in the Sunreaver pavilion at the Argent Tournament Grounds.
Reputation with the Sunreavers
To buy the mount you need Exalted with the Sunreavers faction. Reputation can be gained in parallel with farming Seals.
- Champion's Writs — when completing Champion daily quests, choose the Champion's Writ instead of the purse, selecting the Sunreavers as the target faction. Each writ grants 250 reputation points
- Valiant quests — completing the Valiant stage for Silvermoon grants reputation with the Sunreavers
- Tabard — buy the
Sunreaver Tabard for 50 Champion's Seals from the same vendor. Wearing the tabard in dungeons grants additional reputation
The total reputation from Aspirant to Exalted amounts to 42,000 points. If you consistently choose Champion's Writs for the Sunreavers, reputation will reach Exalted in roughly 3-4 weeks.
Farming time estimate
| Stage | Seals per day | Days for 150 Seals |
|---|---|---|
| Champion (without Crusader) | ~9 | ~17 days |
| Crusader (all quests) | ~14 | ~11 days |
| Crusader + heroic dungeon | ~17 | ~9 days |
Keep in mind that before you start farming Seals you will need to complete the Aspirant and Valiant stages, which takes a minimum of 8 days (3 days Aspirant + 5 days Valiant for the first city). Fully completing all five cities to earn the Crusader title takes about 28 days.
Optimal strategy: start saving Seals as soon as you reach Champion status for your first city, while completing the Valiant stage for the remaining cities in parallel. That way you do not waste any time.
Other Argent Tournament mounts
While you farm Seals for the Dragonhawk, take a look at the other mounts available for the same currency. They are all purchased from the racial quartermasters on the tournament grounds.
| Mount | Cost | Vendor |
|---|---|---|
| Sunreaver Dragonhawk | 150 Seals | Vasarin Redmorn |
| 100 Seals | Vasarin Redmorn | |
| Racial mounts of the Horde cities | 100 Seals | City quartermasters |
The Sunreaver Dragonhawk is one of two mounts exclusive to the Sunreaver faction. The other is the ground
Sunreaver Hawkstrider for 100 Seals. If you plan to collect the entire Argent Tournament mount collection, stock up on patience: a full set will require more than 1,000 Seals.
Tips
Do all available daily quests — do not skip a single day if you want the mount as soon as possible. Every day missed is 9-17 Seals lost
Do not forget the heroic dungeon — the Trial of the Champion is cleared in a few minutes at max level and grants 3 additional Seals per day
Choose your writs wisely — if your reputation with the Sunreavers has not yet reached Exalted, always choose the Champion's Writ for that faction instead of the purse of gold
Farm on multiple characters — Champion's Seals are bound to the character, but the mount unlocks account-wide. However, each alt will have to complete the tournament chain again, so farming on a single character is usually more efficient
Use the Blessing of the Wayfarer buff — during WoW holiday events reputation bonuses are sometimes available that will speed up reaching Exalted with the Sunreavers
Combine your farming — while you save Seals for the Dragonhawk, you simultaneously gather currency for the other tournament mounts and rewards: pets, tabards and toys
