The Twilight Blade — Transmog Set Guide

The Twilight Blade is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.0.3). Despite its epic quality, it is a low-level item: its scaled item level is 15 and it requires character level 32. As a combat weapon it lost its value long ago, but it is prized by transmog collectors for its dark silhouette and the rarity of its source.

Visually it is a short blade with a narrow edge in a dark purple hue and a small guard — a model in the spirit of stealthy weaponry that fits the looks of rogues and dark characters well. The item has an "on hit" effect: with a proc chance, the blade increases critical strike for 10 seconds, and the effect stacks up to three times. For transmogrification this is irrelevant — the dagger is taken purely for its appearance.

The item binds when equipped, so the blade can be traded or sold at the auction house. Daggers can be wielded by almost every class able to take a short blade in hand: rogues, hunters, mages, druids, priests, shamans, warlocks, demon hunters and evokers.

The Twilight Blade is not sold by a vendor and cannot be crafted. It drops with a low chance from the Flame-Scarred Junkbox — a locked box that a rogue obtains by pickpocketing Cataclysm-level humanoids.

Key features of obtaining it:

• The Flame-Scarred Junkbox is obtained only through pickpocketing, so only a rogue can collect the blade. For other classes, the options are either a rogue alt or the auction house.
• The box is locked and requires a Lockpicking skill of 400 to open. You can raise the skill to this mark right on the boxes themselves — every successful opening advances Lockpicking.
• The chance for the dagger itself inside the box is low, and many opened boxes are spent per find. Obtaining it is a long farm by nature.
• There is no hard limit on attempts: you can steal and open boxes endlessly until the desired look drops.
• Besides the dagger, the Flame-Scarred Junkbox contains blue Cataclysm gems, consumables, inscription materials and rare recipes, so the farm is never completely empty.

The best zones for farming the Flame-Scarred Junkbox are the same ones that were optimal in Cataclysm times:

• Tol Barad — the main farming spot thanks to the fast respawn of enemies. Many NPCs can be robbed without killing them: other players pick them off, while the rogue manages to grab the box and slip back into stealth.
• Shimmering Expanse in Vashj'ir — dense clusters of naga and linked groups let you steal several boxes in a row without long travel between spots.
• Deepholm — the outer plateaus with fights between iron dwarves and troggs provide compact groups of humanoids with an acceptable respawn pace.

At max level in Midnight all of these zones are cleared solo without resistance — the task comes down to a route between target groups and consistent use of pickpocketing.

The Twilight Blade belongs to a small family of epic daggers with the same silhouette and the same "on hit" mechanic. They are all obtained only from locked junkboxes through pickpocketing and differ by the era of their appearance and the shade of the model.

Notes on the table:

• The Dusk Blade is the earliest relative, appearing back in Wrath of the Lich King. It drops from the Reinforced Junkbox, which is stolen from Northrend humanoids.
• The Gloaming Blade is a separate item that shares a similar name but has a different identifier and a higher required level. It was added in Mists of Pandaria and drops from the Vine-Cracked Junkbox, which is stolen from Pandaria humanoids. When searching on Wowhead, check the item number so you don't mix up the two daggers.
• There is no separate color recolor of the blade: the kindred daggers differ not by the palette of a single model but by close yet distinct appearances.

• It suits the looks of rogues and demon hunters in dark, muted tones — the blade does not steal attention and fits the silhouette well.
• It harmonizes with purple and black leather armor, as well as with the cloth sets of shadow priests and warlocks.
• It is fitting in concepts tied to the Twilight's Hammer cult — the name and palette directly echo this Cataclysm theme.
• It looks good paired with the kindred Dusk Blade: two daggers slightly different in shade within one silhouette create a cohesive dark look.
• It contrasts with light plate armor — a debatable but expressive combination that turns the blade into a concealed weapon under heavy armor.
